Cambodia floating villages - Kompong Luong
A two-minute boat ride through one of Cambodia's largest floating villages, Kompong Luong edited to the music of Cambodian Music Legend Kong Ny playing with Dengue Fever.
Kompong Luong floating village, Cambodia
We left Pursat by motorbike to explore the floating village of Kompong Luong. After turning in Krakor, we passed huge amounts of trash on both sides of the road. When we arrived at the Tonle Sap Lake, we saw a big sign from the government indicating the prices for a boat ride through the floating village. We hopped on a private boat and got a tour for 1h in the floating village. Something really unique.. Everything floats there: houses, shops, restaurants, boat repair shops, you name it!

What an epic place to go to! Kompong Luong (or Kampong Luong) has all the amenities you would expect from a traditional village – except that here everything floats on water.
Kompong Luong Village Location:
To get there, you will need to grab a bus that goes from Battambang to Phnom Penh and stop at the village of Krakor; more exactly at the intersection between roads 53B, 54 & the highway 5. Ask your driver to drop you at Krakor.. From, the petrol station of the town, a couple of motorbikes will be waiting for you to bring straight to the floating village's peer (2-7kms away depending on dry/wet season).
Arriving onsite, you will be asked if you wanna do a tour of the village ($13) with an optional family homestay ($6) which is worth every cent.
Kompong Luong Homestay: there are 3 homestays available
It will be hard for you to book in advance but feel free to ask us as we have the personal facebooks of the owners and can try to help you.
In the meantime, here is an interesting blog about the village and more information around your upcoming homestay in Kompoing Luong Floating Village:
The floating village is a charming if slightly ramshackle Venice without the dry land. The cafes, shops, chicken coops, fish ponds, ice-making factory, petrol station and karaoke bars are kept from sinking by boat hulls, barrels or bunches of bamboo – as are the pagodas, the blue-roofed church and the colourful houses.
During the dry season, when water levels drop and Tonlé Sap lake shrinks, the entire aquapolis is towed, boat by boat. The population of this fascinating and picturesque village is partly Vietnamese, so – reflecting their ambiguous status in Cambodian society.
The best thing out of all this? There are almost no tourists.. literally saw 4 over 24h.. So treat it well and keep it as a secret.

Kompong Luong Floating Village, Cambodia, Jan, 2014
This town is completely floating on water and moves around the Tonle Sap lake according to the seasons. It's between 3000 and 4000 people with shops, schools, hospital, pagodas, and workshops with waterways dividing everything into neighbourhoods. It's pretty cool and well worth a visit. You can stay at one of the two guesthouses. 15 min moto from Krakor. Read more about my trip at adventurefood.ca

Walking Around Cambodian Floating Fishing Village-Kompong Khleang
I went off the beaten path and walked around a fascinating floating fishing village in Kompong Khleang, Cambodia, which included a brief tour of a Buddhist monastery. The village is about 25 miles (40 km) from Siem Reap. The houses are perched on stilts about 33 feet (10 meters) above the ground to prevent flooding during the rainy season and the homes have no electricity. This was a rare glimpse into a way of life that is totally different from what most of us are used to. It was like going back in time.

The peddle boat adventure also takes to visit the stilt houses with lifestyle animated by fishing activities and a great time to take picturesque photos. Krakor Floating Village - Cambodia
The Story Of Krakor Village - AYVP Indonesia
Kompong Luong is a large floating village north of Krakor pursat province, cambodia. Its distance from Krakor may vary from 2 to 7 km, following the seasonal expansion and shrinking of the lake.
As the other floating villages in the country, this settlement started on 1950 as a small fishing village. the fish is the main source of protein in the country and the land comes at a price. Not only Cambodian, some Vietnamese people also come to this placein order to establish their community.
Since 1970 until 80, there was a huge fishing based on The Pol Pot instruction to provide fishes. Population start to increase resulting in reduction of fish. Due to the high population the waste increases causing the dirty water. From 1990 until 2000s technology started to develop in the village, like solar panel, television and other technology.
