Kondakarla Ava is a famous Natural Lake and Bird Sanctuary in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh state in South India located towards south at a distance of 46 KM from Visakhapatnam. One should visit this place in winter when there are various migratory birds which come to breed here. If you want to see the hidden beauty of Visakhapatnam this is the best place and you got ava (boat). Was feeling like floating on water? Better to go early in the morning. The best place for photography and bird watching! This lake is a hidden beauty. It’s a pleasure to see nature not tampered. Beautiful lake, with lots of lotus flowers and special boating on logs of palm trees, make this place unique. This freshwater natural lake is home to many birds and one of the main spots for the photographer interested in birds photography. Though we were staying in Vizag, very few people know of this place.

Boating in the Lake -????- Local fisherman & villages prepare boats by joining two logs of palm trees and making a sitting arrangement by placing a wooden plank or wooden bed over it. These arrangements remain quite stable in water. While boating you can pluck lotus flowers from the water. There is no fixed rate or any type of ticket arrangement here. Rates depend on demand & season. The maximum fare will be Rs 300 per head and half hour boating to another side of the lake. The lake is awesome, around 1800 acres of freshwater only 6 to 7 feet deep. There are quite a handful of migratory birds, white lilies, frogs, lots of fish and other water life. There is a temple of Lord Venkateswara over hill at the other side. From the hilltop view of the surroundings is the only attraction to climb up.

Hours - Monday to Sunday 5:30 Am – 5:30 Pm.

How to reach Kondakarla Ava From Visakhapatnam -????- You can travel south towards Anakapalle ( 46 KM ) on NH5 and take a left turn towards Atchutapuram on Haripalem Road. After traveling 6 KM on Haripalem road the village road will be at your left. From here Lake is 4 KM through Kondakarla village. The route is good and a big car could comfortably go there.

Nearby tourist places -????- Bojjannakonda & Lingalakonda are two Buddhist Rock-Cut caves on a nearby hillock, located close to a village called Sankaram, which is a 5 Km away from Anakapalle. Kondakarla Ava to Bojjannakonda 19 Km & Annavaram Temple is 79 KM via Elamanchili, Tuni.

Telineelapuram Bird Sanctuary

Telineelapuram Bird Sanctuary is just 6km from Tekkali in Srikakulam District of Andhra Pradesh. Telineelapuram is Paradise for birds coming from as far as Siberia, Malaysia, Hungary, Singapore and Germany.

Around 3000 birds (spot billed pelicans, Painted stork & greater adjutant stork) travel around 7,000 km every year to reach here. These birds come here in the month of September for breeding after hatching they will fly back to their country's with young ones in the month of May.

Researchers at Andhra University found that the migratory movement of birds was first noticed over 15 years ago, when the number of birds exceeded 10,000. At present, the figure has been reduced to about 3,000 because of Climatic Conditions.

Telineelapuram Bird Sanctuary is open round the year but the best time to visit here is in the months of November to March.

Totlakonda is a Buddhist heritage site Situated 16kms from along the Vizag-Bhimli beach road, it is a Buddhist site on the hilltop of Mangamaripeta, came to be known during the aerial survey undertaken by the Indian Navy. The archaeological survey revealed some structural components like Maha Stupa Viharas, 16 Votive Stupas, Chaitya Gruhas, stone pillared congregation halls, 11 rock-cut cisterns, well paved stone pathways, a kitchen complex with three halls and a refectory. Apart from this there were many Eppatra pieces with early Brahmi letters, nine silver coins belonging to Satavahanas and five silver coins belonging to Roman era, some terracotta tiles were also unearthed.
