Evergreen Aviation Boeing 747 landing in McMinnville, Oregon
One of Evergreen Aviation's Boeing 747s last flight. It is landing in McMinnville, OR and will be moved to the Aviation and Space Museum to be converted into a Hostel.
Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon
Enough with all this natural beauty, how about some man-made beauty! :) Every once in a while I need a guy day to geek out on some cool testosterone filled mechanical stuff. Lucky I have a cool wife that indulges me. She usually ends up enjoying my choice. This was definitely a goodie.
In this video, I show an overview of the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum complex in McMinnville. The museum is home to a plethora of immaculately restored vintage aircraft including Howard Hughes massive wooden seaplane the Spruce Goose.
The attraction is extremely RV friendly. Easy big rig access off the highway with a large back parking lot. They even allow free overnight boondocking for up to 2 nights. That's a good thing because it will easily take a full day to tour the remarkable pair of museums.

Brookings and Myers Creek Beach on the Oregon Coast 2018
See my 2017/18 Snowbird Trip Video Playlist -
As we hit the home stretch of our 2017/18 snowbird adventures, we found ourselves on southern Oregon coast in the town of Brookings. We've driven through Brookings numerous times on previous trips, but only every stopped briefly for fuel. This spring we decided to make a point of staying a few nights.
My first choice for camping was Harris Beach State Park. We love the Oregon State Parks and were eager to camp at a new one. Unfortunately, the campground was under heavy construction leaving only a few sites open. So we changed our minds and went with the second choice: the Beachfront RV Park down in the Brookings Harbor area.
*Beachfront RV Park, Brookings Oregon*
Funny enough finding camping right on a beach in Oregon is harder than one might think. Most of the state parks are behind dunes or in the coastal forests for shelter. Most of the opportunities are limited to private parks, and the rates are high. The Beachfront RV Park in Brookings is one example with full hookup beachfront sites going for $51 a night even in the offseason.
However, they do have a dry camping area situated along the Chetco River for a cheaper nightly rate of $32. Being that boondocking is second nature to us we gladly setup there. Sure we didn't get a view of the ocean but were literally steps away. I actually preferred the river views which had lots of wildlife and boat traffic to observe. Also, we were basically all on our own compared to being in a row of tightly packed rigs with the public beach parking blocking the views.
Another perk of the RV park is the proximity to the Brookings Harbor district. All within easy walking distance. It was relaxing to stroll along the docks checking out the activity of the commercial boats, browse the gift shops and grab a seafood lunch at one of the many restaurants. We visited in mid-April during the offseason. The vibe was mellow without all the vacation crowds.
*Overnighting at Myers Creek Beach on Highway 101*
After two nights at the Beachfront RV park, the weather was about to get wetter as another coastal storm moved in. Rather than spend another $32 to sit in the trailer, we decided to move a bit northward to a little Oregon coast highway viewpoint above Myers Creek Beach. Myers Creek Beach is one of the prettiest stretches of highway on the entire Oregon Coast. It's been used in countless commercials because of the stunning backdrop. A photographers dream.
This time of year the traffic is light, and many times you will have the whole beach to yourself. Knowing some foul weather was in store we pulled over at one of the viewpoints and set up the rig for some storm watching. It was awesome to be all warm and cozy in our home on wheels watching natures power and beauty on full display.
As the day wound down, I decided to overnight at this small viewpoint along Highway 101. It was a risk being so close to the highway and not knowing if overnight parking was allowed. But being a quiet stretch of road and a rainy, foggy Sunday night was worth it. Most of the coastal highway pullouts have signs that read No Camping or Overnight Parking, but this one doesn't.
However, I don't know that this particular pullout is considered a highway rest stop or not so staying there could result in a knock by the police at the door or a fine. So, I want to make that clear. ;)
We have a restful night lulled to sleep by the rain and crashing surf. The next morning I woke up early and took the beagle out for a walk on the gorgeous beach without another soul in sight, Angie had a blast running off leash. I enjoyed the beautiful break in the weather, but soon our walk was cut short by an incoming storm front, so it was back to the warm confines of the RV for breakfast before hitting the road. Stay tuned for more Oregon Coast adventures as we slowly make our way back to Vancouver Island for the summer.

Oregon to California - 4 Free Overnight Stops (Snowbird Travel Update)
Doh! the first video was incomplete I upload by mistake an unfinished version. Here is the fully edited version. Sorry about that, Ray
In this video, I show you our path south from Astoria Oregon all the way south to California, near Sacramento. During the trip down, we overnighted a 4 different free dry camping locations. 2 casinos, an air museum, and a Camping World store lot.
1) Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon. They allow free RV overnight parking for 2 nights. The nearby woods were full of birds and falling leaves and of course, lots of cool planes!
2) Seven Feather Casino along Interstate 5 near Canyonville Oregon. They allow up to 5 days free dry camping in a lot north of the casino. There is also a truck stop across the freeway with low fuel prices.
3) Redding, CA Camping World, they allowed free overnight camping in the parking lot. We were the only rig. :)⠀
Right next to the freeway so noisy but doesn't bother us, we are used to the drone. If you have the Good Sam card, they have hookups too, but we declined as you have to move by 8 am so they can get access.⠀
4) Cache Creek Casino located about 30 minutes to the west of Woodland, California. They allow 3 days free in a quite unlevel dirt lot but with lovely views of the surrounding hills and valley below. Sign up for the casino card and get $25 to spend on food or fuel at the casino. Download their app and get 10 bucks free slot play. Upscale casino with excellent restaurants.

ABOUT: My name is Clark Hazlett and I am currently a junior at Linfield College where I play quarterback. In the classroom, I am currently a Marketing and Sports Studies double major with a minor in Digital Art. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for the sport of football. It has taught me many life lessons. The quarterback position, in particular, has allowed me to develop discipline, leadership, multitasking skills and the ability to work and thrive in any environment.
Outside of school and football, my interests are centered around SNEAKERS, my soon to be apparel company *Check out @AdventureAthletes on Instagram!* and outdoor adventuring throughout the Pacific Northwest. My interests have allowed me to develop my passion for photography and videography. This past year I launched this YouTube Channel which has allowed to utilize my digital art skills and connect with all of you. My primary focus as of right now for my channel is to inspire and educate athletes on what it takes to be a successful college student-athlete. Rather than take all day to tell you about the future of this channel, I'd rather have the videos speak for themselves. Follow along with me on my journey! Why We Are Buying a New Truck Versus Fixing Big Blue
In this video, I go into detail about why I'm not fixing our old 1994 Ford F350 and buying a brand new truck instead.
If you saw my previous video - Sad News Our Old Blue Ford Truck is Toast :( - you'll see a lot of the commenters thought I should be repairing old Blue. Even though it looks like the engine needs major repairs or a replacement.
I try to explain my thought process and the pros and cons of buying new versus fixing the old beast or buying a newer used tow vehicle.
Finally, I ask what you feel the old truck is worth to sell. I'd like to see it go to a good home. I'm sure it has some good years left, just not with us towing our big fifth wheel.
Repairs needed during our last 6-month trip:
Rear Diff Speed Sensor
Fuel Lift Pump
Fuel Return Lines and O-Ring Kit
Glow Plug Controller and Relay
Glow Plugs
Fan Clutch
Block Heater Plug
Leaky Radiator Cap
Ignition Key Cylinder
Tach Sensor
Our Choices:
Repair Blues Engine 6-8 thousand dollars (CAD)
Restore Blue 20-25 thousand dollars (CAD)
Newer Used Truck 30 - 45 thousand dollars plus 12% tax (CAD)
New Truck 68,000 plus 12% tax (CAD)
Old vs New Specs:
2WD Dually vs 4WD Single Axle
Rear End 4.10 vs 3.42
Towing 13,000lbs vs 16,850lbs
Payload 3000lbs vs 4,320lbs
Trans. 3 speed with OD vs 6 speed
Power 190HP vs 385HP
Torque 385 ft/lbs vs 930 ft/lbs
Pros of buying a new truck:
A massive increase in towing capacity
Increased safety
Reliability
Comfort
4x4 capability for more off-road adventures
More fun to drive, less stress
5-year powertrain warranty or 100,000 km
3-year bumper to bumper warranty or 60,000 km
Cons for a new truck:
Cost 68,000 CAD plus taxes
Higher insurance rate
Emission Issues
Feel sad for old Blue

Northwest UAV Works with ONAMI to Develop New Fuel Injector
McMinnville-based Northwest UAV is the largest unmanned aerial vehicle engine manufacturer in the country. NWUAV has grown from seven employees in 2008 to more than 40 today. NWUAV has produced over 4,500 engines and expects continued growth in 2010. NWUAV is a critical supplier of engines for Boeing's Scan Eagle.
Driven to meet new federal regulations that require a 35 percent reduction in exhaust emissions, NWUAV initiated a program to develop a unique fuel injection engine that will run on heavy jet fuels. The new system promises to increase fuel efficiency, increase flight times and reduce emissions.
Business Oregon staff connected NWUAV with R&D facilities at the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI) to design and prototype the new fuel injector. Business Oregon invested significantly to build out the capabilities of ONAMI for just such partnerships that could help drive development of products for Oregon companies.
