Travelling VIETNAM continues! Our ADVENTURE from Ninh Binh - Hoi An ????????
After leaving Cat Ba Island towards the end of February, we moved on to Ninh Binh, in particular Tam Coc, as it was recommended as the best place to stay! It did not disappoint ???? From Tam Coc we scootered up to the Trang An Boat Tours and enjoyed a magical journey through caves, temples and ended with a fantastic explore of the King Kong: Skull Island movie set. On leaving Ninh Binh we headed up to the beautifully majestic Hoi An. With it's pretty lanterns to delicious local dishes (White Rose in particular!) we couldn't get enough. Da Nang also needed a visit, so we stopped by its delightful beach and stunning Dragon Beach. Enjoy following our journey. ????

Adventure in Vietnam: Kong's Skull Island in Real Life
0:28 Filming location for Kong: Skull Island. I can see why
2:55 Dry cave: big stalagtites. Locals use it as a shortcut to visit neighboring villages (barefoot!)
4:47 Underground river cave: avoid huge spiders and bats, descend down a rickety ladder, get in freezing underground river and float in complete darkness to the exit. Lunch waiting for us on the other side of the lake!
10:06 Massive cave: it’s so huge it’s difficult to understand the scale. We scrambled and climbed over 1 mile in the dark to the end of the cave (where it goes completely underwater)
13:50 Return back to the light. We did it!
There are hundreds of caves and underground rivers in Vietnam! All of Kong: Skull Island's locations were filmed there. We took a train from Hoi An, Vietnam to Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park. We originally stayed in a local hotel but quickly switched to a Farmstay. These operate like local resorts in this underdeveloped area. Great experience but quite strenuous. Go at your own risk!

The Best Vietnamese Food in Hoi An, Vietnam. HANDS DOWN
Vietnamese food in Central Vietnam is simply the best. Hoi An isn't known for it's culinary excellence compared to Da Nang or Hue, but there are a few amazing eateries and food you can try. This happened to be my favorite place because I've eaten here twice and each time within a six month period, it has been very consistent. The dishes I ate included shredded chicken rice, cao lau noodles, tiny clams called hen, banh vac, and banh dap.
Everything is such a speciality and localized to Hoi An. Great Meal.
I really recommend you visiting this place located at
05 Nguyen Hoang, which is that street that sells a bunch of lanterns on the other side of Hoi An across from the Japanese Bridge.

KING KONG MOVIE LOCATION - Ninh Binh Vietnam
After Halong Bay we caught a bus to Ninh Binh Vietnam. We didn't think we'd see a view nearly as nice, but after climbing to the top of Lying Dragon mountain we were stunned and quickly realized why they chose this as a King Kong movie location! This place was breathtaking and can't wait to see more of what Vietnam has to offer!

Ancient Town of Hoi An (UNESCO World Heritage Site) - ???????? Vietnam - 4K Virtual Tour
Wandering around the ancient town, UNSESCO World Heritage Site, Hoi An in Vietnam. Click here ▶ to see highlights and guide.
(From Wiki).
Hoi An, once known as Faifo, with more than 2,000 years history, was the principal port of the Cham Kingdom, which controlled the strategic spice trade with Indonesia from the 7th to the 10th century and was a major international port in the 16th and 17th centuries - and the foreign influences are discernible to this day.
The culture & heritage is mostly from the Cham people whose kingdom originally stretched from Hue South to Phan Thiet (South of Nha Trang) - the Champa's most likely originally from Java. The original Cham political capital was Tra Kieu, the commercial capital was Hoi An and the spiritual capital was My Son (Hindu). The Cham people were Hindu, and by the 10th century the influence of Arab traders to Hoi An resulted in some converting to become Muslims.
The second major influence was from the Chinese, firstly from traders but especially the escaping Ming Dynasty armies who after settling in Hoi An for some years moved further south and created Saigon as a major trading port.

Experience Southeast Asia: Cycling Tour Through Hoi An
Think there’s only one way to experience the food, culture, history, and beauty of Southeast Asia? Think again. In this video, we’re showing you how much of this incredible region you can see on a cycling tour! Follow along on a cycling tour of Hoi An, Vietnam, and see for yourself how rewarding these tours can be. If exercise, hidden gems, and in-depth exploration are your thing, then today’s your lucky day.
While Hoi An isn’t the busy port town it used to be, the area is still active, beautiful, and practically begging to be explored on bike. There’s a new story around every corner in the city, from unique and ever-changing architecture to ancient and recent history to food you won’t find anywhere else.
Of course, when you’re visiting a town on Vietnam’s central coast, you won’t want to spend the entire tour on land! After you’ve seen everything on the streets of Hoi An (or at least tried to!), hit the water in an iconic basket boat. You’ve fuelled up by eating all the Vietnamese food you can, right?
If you thought Hoi An was incredible during the day, just wait until you see it after dark. No tour would be complete without a sunset cruise!
Are you jealous of all the lucky travellers on this cycling tour yet? We thought so! If you can’t stand the jealousy anymore, head over to TourRadar and see if you can find an incredible adventure of your very own.

Backpacking Vietnam - Cat Ba Island Climbing, Lan Ha Bay Kayaking, Hoi An to Hue Train, Ep. 13
After Laos, we arrived in Hanoi and took a bus/boat ticket to Cat Ba Island. We got in on a packed Saturday night and unbeknown to us, all of the hotel rooms were booked. Our only option was to camp out in a tent village outside of town that turned out to be really fun and full of interesting backpackers. Cat Ba was a great place to adventure as we did a kayaking/deep water soloing trip with Asia Outdoors, rented a motorbike and hiked through Cat Ba National Park, and then spent a few days rock climbing in Butterfly Valley.
We left Cat Ba Island, and flew into Danang on our way to Hoi An and found a peaceful bed and breakfast that we ended up staying at for over a week. Hoi An was a sharp contrast from Cat Ba Island and both were fun in there own respects. We did a full day train ride trip up the coast to Hue and then reflected a lot on our first major phase of our Asia backpacking trip so far.
Next, it is the first time that we deviate away from our original plan and fly to Bali, Indonesia to continue our surfing and yoga skills and learn how to meditate.
