I woke up at 5am and biked across town to go up this 301 meter mountain, Gorogadake.

This is just some of the fireworks that was displayed at the Maizuru Chatta Matsuri 2014.
Chatta Matsuri is held on the last weekend of July and the fireworks were on the 27th of July this year.

Kongo-in Temple in Autumn (秋の金剛院) 2013
Standing quietly amid the tranquility of the deep mountain folds is Kongo-in Temple, which is renowned for its beautiful red autumnal leaves. The sight of the red leaves surrounding this ancient temple, which was built by Prince Takaoka in the Heian era (794 - 1185), was also beautifully depicted by Yukio Mishima in his novel, The Temple of the Golden Pavilion. The three-storied pagoda with its persimmon tree roof tiles and the statues of the standing figures of Shukongoshin and Jinja Taisho are nationally important cultural assets. It wasn't the peak of the Autumn colors, but the weather was fantastic. We have had rain at least once a day for nearly two weeks. It was so nice to have nice weather and blue skies.

After the rain had stopped I went out on my bike to look around Higashi Maizuru.
As I was expecting, all the waterways were extremely flooded.
I put my camera in a plastic bag and attached it to my monopod as I rode my bike. I am sure I was a sight to see with my camera and rain gear on.

Haruna was a Kongo-class battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was bombed and sunk by carrier-based aircraft of the US Navy on July 24th, 1945, at Kure Harbor, Japan. This video shows the wreck of the Haruna in Kure harbor.

This was the first snow fall of the season. It had been snowing the night before and this day.
I hope to visit again in the spring with cherry blossoms and then finally in the summer, so I can have video from all four seasons.
I brought the tripod for this video, but I forgot the mount. So, not as steady as I would have liked it.

Hilltop Shrine in Maizuru (Time Lapse)
Here is a time lapse from a local hilltop shrine. To make things interesting, I thought I would record at sunrise and sunset. However, this is not a sunrise nor sunset time lapse.
You will see the video flickering. I believe that is because the camera was constantly trying to auto white balance. So, if I were to do this again, I think I would have to lock the white balance not to get that flickering.

Yoshiwara no Tachifuri (吉原の太刀振り) 2013
Yoshiwara no Tachifuri is a performing arts dedicated to Asashiro Shrine, in Maizuru, held once every 4 years!
It starts around 7 am and then it will finish around 7 pm. There are different performances throughout the day at different locations.
We saw the performance at Tanabe Castle. Sadly, it was raining so we all had to crowd around the castle gate entrance. They performed for an hour and they were using real weapons. It was so cool to see!
The youngest performers should be about first graders and the oldest are around 19 years old.

About Projection Mapping
Projection mapping, also known as video mapping and spatial augmented reality, is a projection technology used to turn object, often irregularly shaped, into a display surface for video projection.
By using specialized software, a two or three dimensional object is spatially mapped on the virtual program which mimics the real environment it is to be projected on.
The software can interact with a projector to fit any desired image onto the surface of that object. This technique is used by artist who can add extra dimensions, optical illusions, and notions of movement onto previously static objects.
This video is commonly combined with, or triggered by, audio to create an audio-visual narrative.
