Before my introduction to Kongtong,I would like to ask you, who know the origin of the name of this mountain? About the origins of the name Kongtong mountain, it has many versions through the ages. The first, with Taoism concept of empty and nature. Hole and Kongtong, sound the same in ancient time, so as its name, the second kind is according to historical records, as early as in Shang and Zhou dynasties, here is tribal settlements named Kongtongshi, so it becomes the mountain 's name. The third one is recognized by the most people, we listened to such a few words, Kongtong mountain built hole by hole . Really there are countless caves. 12 Stunning Photos of Maqu County, Gansu
Maqu is a county-level town in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in the southern part of Gansu Province.
The Yellow River passes through Gansu Province forming a 433-km bending known as “first bend of the Yellow River” right inside Maqu county on the edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Maqu means Yellow River” in the Tibetan language, and Maqu is the only county in China that is named after the Yellow River.
Maqu County covers a total area of 10109 square kilometers, of which 89.4% is natural pasture. Vast grassland, dotted lakes and wetlands build the region into a complete water system.
Maqu has a winter that is long and cold, while summer is relatively short and mild.
The Maqu Yellow River bridge is located in Maqu County of Gansu province. It is the first the Yellow River bridge built on the upper reaches of the Yellow River.
The Maqu Wetland Reserve is an alpine swamp wetland, it is one of the most primitive and typical wetland in the Tibetan Plateau.
In this sparsely populated area, yaks, horses, sheep, and goshawks still dominate the land.
The Yellow River is known as the cradle of Chinese civilization, it winds its way more than 5,000 kilometers from the Tibetan Plateau to its mouth in the Bohai Sea.
Maqu still have many Tibetans who live part of the year in traditional nomad tents, though many of them have been resettled over the past 10 years to resettlement villages.
This region of the Tibetan Plateau is one of the best to visit if you are interested in Tibetan nomadic culture and lifestyle.

Gansu - Truly Ancient Silk Road
For centuries Gansu was a vital corridor between China and Central Asia. The north-western province provided a 1,600 km section of the Silk Road. Numerous ancient monuments are dotted along the famous historical route - from temples, monasteries and pagodas to towers and ancient palaces.
With so many cultural relics, it's maybe not that surprising to hear that the ancient silk road culture is still thriving there.

The Longest Way 1.0 - walk through China and grow a beard! - a photo every day timelapse
GET MERCH:
In 2008, I walked through China - 1 year, 4500km. I let my hair and my beard grow. This is the resulting video. UPDATE: ▶ I have decided to continue my walk home from China to Germany. I'm currently in Georgia, or about halfway through.I post daily videos on this channel, and I blog about it here:
ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
▶ I didn't finish my original goal of walking to Germany in 2008. Instead, I walked for a year and roughly 4500km, passed the Gobi desert, and then decided to stop walking.
▶ All of the distance from Beijing to Ürümqi was completed solely on foot, straight good old walking. There are instances where you can see me in the video sitting on a plane or riding a boat, but those are during breaks I had to take from walking, either to sort out bureaucracy issues or to take care of some personal things.
▶ I had been planning this trip for over a year before I even started, and getting as far as I got was an experience for which I am very grateful.
▶ Obtaining the necessary visa for a trip like this was not very easy, hence I had to go back to Beijing a few times to resolve some issues.
▶ This is not a strict 1 pic a day video, because I wanted to make it a bit more alive by adding some additional movement. Sometimes during the film you would follow me turn around, or something would happen in the background. I tried to capture these moments to make the video more interesting.
▶ If you liked the music I used in this video, get it here: The Kingpins - L'Aventurier Zhu Fengbo - Olive Tree
▶ The core of this project is in actually my blog where I have posted my extensive travel diary, starting from day 1 (Nov 9th 2007) and describing every single day until the end one year later.
