I hit a lot of spots in Itoman today. Not as many as I'd have liked but I can always go back for more.
Himeyuri Cenotaph under the cliffs by the sea.
Cape Kyan.
Walked around part of Itoman for an hour or so.
Konpaku-no To and surrounding monuments.
Busy day.

1st Episode of a small documentary about FANEL meeting Japanese musicians - Nov 2018.
FANEL is french singer-songwriter mixing Western pop music and Japanese tradition. Her debut album out in September 2019.
She creates SHIOME, a lab which allows her to go deeper in that creative process and invites her french musicians and Japanese traditionnal musicians from Okinawa to join her on stage.

Hakugin-dou Itoman's Local Fisherman's Shrine
Hakugin-dou is a small shrine dedicated to the local sea god. At the time of the lunar New Year, many people visit it to pray for safe voyages and bountiful catches.
During the 'Itoman Harley' (Dragonboat Races) the famous festival in the fishing town of Itoman, the local deity is enshrined.
Hakugin-dou has a famous saying: 'Ijinuijira tehiki, tenuijira ijihiki' ('If your pride gets bigger, hold back your hand. If your hands are to be thrown, hold back your pride.') The name Hakugin ('White Silver') derives from a story that silver coins were collected for a debt and buried in the cave. Hakugin-dou is also sometimes known as 'Yoriage-mitake'.
The shrine is close to Itoman's city center, but 200 years ago, the district was below the sea. The god at Hakugin-dou still provides security for fishing expeditions, which is appropriate for a fishing town like Itoman.

Archaeology and Cemetery sites at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa Day 33 May 6, 2019
It's been a long time since I was so disappointed in the video recording that I did today. At the Med Festival the other day my camera was acting strangely - it wouldn't shut off and the lens cover wouldn't close after I stopped recording. But I at least got what I wanted recorded. Today however, the indicator said I was recording when in fact the camera was off and was recording when I thought it was off. As a result I have about 20 minutes of video of the ground, my feet and the inside of a pocket on my cargo shorts. Biggest disappointment is that I thought it was recording while I was part-way inside of a tomb that has already been emptied out and the 100-plus year old burial urns relocated. Well, at least my photos came out ok - but I took no photos inside the tomb.
