Koper is a major harbour city in Istria which is located on the Slovenian Riviera.The old town can be entered through the last of the twelve gates of the city’s former defensive wall. A stone coat of arms, various reliefs and inscriptions highlight the long history of the city in which for five hundred years Venetian rule shaped its destiny. An archway in the Praetorian Palace leads to a classic Venetian square, the Titov Trg which dates back to the fifteenth century. The Piazza is one of the most beautiful Venetian squares of the entire Adriatic region and the cathedral which frames the square has numerous architectural styles. Brollo, an area just beyond the centre of the city, served as a collecting basin for rainwater which was drawn by two wells from a cistern below. The Gothic, Fontico, was used for the storage of surplus grain which was distributed to the people in years of hardship. Today Koper is Slovenia’s window to the world and the country’s only seaport.

Pokrajinski muzej Koper -- Museo Regionale di Capodistria
Primorski Mozaik, posebna oddaja, v celoti posvečena 100-letnici Pokrajinskega muzeja Koper. Oddaja je bila predvajana na TV Koper-Capodistria v sredo, 23.02.2011.
Muzej je bil ustanovljen v začetku leta 1911 kot MESTNI MUZEJ ZA ZGODOVINO IN UMETNOST (MUSEO CIVICO DI STORIA E D`ARTE). Po 1. svetovni vojni domuje v palači Belgramoni Tacco, kjer je še danes. Leta 1954 je nekdanji Mestni muzej prerasel v OKRAJNI MUZEJ KOPER, leta 1967 pa se je preimenoval v POKRAJINSKI MUZEJ KOPER in deluje na območju občin Koper, Izola, Piran, Ilirska Bistrica, Divača in Hrpelje-Kozina. Javni zavod Pokrajinski muzej Koper je po svojem poslanstvu muzej, ki v skladu s pravili in cilji muzejske stroke skrbi za premično kulturno dediščino ter jo predstavlja najširšemu krogu javnosti in skupinam s posebnimi potrebami. Vsebinsko področje delovanja pokriva arheologijo, zgodovino Primorske, umetnostno in kulturno zgodovine ter etnologijo kulturne dediščine obalno-kraškega območja. Pomembno pozornost namenjamo sodelovanju s kulturnimi in znanstvenimi ter vzgojnoizobraževalnimi ustanovami in društvi s posebnim poudarkom na sodelovanju s slovenskimi ustanovami v zamejstvu oz. R Italiji in hrvaškimi ustanovami v Istri in Dalmaciji.

Koper se je po drugi svetovni vojni, zaradi političnih in gospodarskih razmer, predvsem pa kot obmejno stičišče slovenske in italijanske kulture, narodov in manjšin, razvil v pomembno in edinstveno informacijsko središče, ki sta mu poseben pečat dala najprej Radio Koper - Capodistria, nato pa še TV Koper - Capodistria.
Radio Koper - Capodistria in TV Koper - Capodistria se povezujeta v regionalni RTV center Koper - Capodistria, ki ustvarja, pripravlja in oddaja radijski in televizijski program v slovenščini, radijski in televizijski program za italijansko narodno skupnost, radijski in televizijski program za slovensko manjšino v Italiji ter pripravlja oddaje za nacionalne radijske in TV programe. V njem delujejo štiri uredništva štirih programov - dveh radijskih (Radio Koper in Radio Capodistria italijanski program) na ločenih frekvencah in dveh televizijskih programov v slovenskem in italijanskem jeziku.
S svojimi oddajami, opravljajo izredno pomembno vlogo pri obveščanju in povezovanju manjšin, razvijanju dobrososedskih odnosov z Italijo in Hrvaško ter odpiranju Slovenije v svet, pa tudi vedno bolj pomembno regionalno in dopisniško funkcijo.

The periodical exhibition “Stone by Stone- Roman Architecture in Northwestern Istria” was opened on 18 June, the Slovenian Museum Night. It was prepared by the Maritime Museum “Sergej Mašera” Piran in cooperation with Umag Town Museum, Archaeological Museum of Istria in Pula, Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage Piran, Institute for Archaeology and Heritage of the Mediterranean, and Regional Museum Koper.
The exhibition presents archaeological sites in the area spreading from Jernejev zaliv to Novigrad in Istria. While in former Roman colonies such as Pola, Tergestum, Parentium several public buildings can be seen, e.g. remains of an amphitheatre, triumphal arches and theatres, numerous remains of Roma villas predominate on the northwestern coast of Istria, which we are now trying to bring closer to the museum visitors, including those with impairments. In a way, we wished to present Roman villas through their designs and plans, tactile perception, etc., for we assessed that the visitors without visual impairment wish to touch these exhibits as well. There are also a number of exhibits you can have a look at, such as ceramic or mosaic paving slabs and their reconstructions. In showcases, original artefacts are displayed, which we wished to bring closer to people with visual and hearing impairments as well. At the exhibition, they are aided by sign language and Braille writing system.
Initially, the exhibition was presented geographically, followed by separate segments in the villas such as outer and inner walls, paving slabs and other parts of the buildings, such as roofs. The exhibition includes works created within the ArtDownUp project by children and adults with Down’ syndrome. These objects can be touched by all museum visitors. Quite fascinating is the reconstruction of the roof, including antefixes, i.e. ornaments on Roman roofs. A few originals can be seen at the exhibition as well. Even the persons with poorer perception of things will comprehend, when seeing the interpretation of a Roman roof, what an antefix is; without reading or if able to read braille they will know that they are faced with two antefixes found at Kaštel. We wished to attract a group of younger visitors with a pedagogical programme by enabling them to compose a mosaic or to test their memory. These two games are located in a semi-circular space. There are also basic materials at the exhibition that can be touched by visitors, such as stone slabs, clay, plaster and treated stone. From several aspects, the exhibition is interactional. Everything is accessible also by physically impaired persons, and we indeed tried our best to prepare the exhibition for all. In view of the visitors’ clear satisfaction we can say that we succeeded in bringing many themes, which were certainly not easy to present, closer to them. They were very pleased to see what the Roman water system looked like, with the exhibited original Roman water pipes and Roman numbers on them. They were impressed by the look of a villa itself, were glad to be able see and touch the Roman mosaic paving, ornaments on the inner walls, and to see what an architrave looks like. As products from the ArtDownUp project are also presented at the exhibition, you can touch them and see how these children interpreted the stone ornaments.
A special feature among the artefacts is certainly Medusa. This ceiling ornament, which had been found at Veli Lug near Umag, probably adorned a sepulchral monument. Medusa, which can be touched by the visitors, was one of the three sisters known as the Gorgons and was the only mortal among them. Various columns are also presented at the exhibition. Corinthian columns, for example, were found in Simonov zaliv at Seča. You can have a close look at their original remains, touch them, read about them in a booklet or follow the sign language.
In all permanent collections, the contents were adapted by placing the texts, for example in the archaeological collection, on luminous panels with larger letters to enable visually impaired people to read them as well. The same was done in other collections upstairs. All collections were renamed and equipped with introductory texts with larger fonts and letters and Braille tactile writing system. Along the exhibits and their copies, special booklets were prepared in each collection, in which details about these exhibits can be read.

Istria (Slovenia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
The Slovenian-Croatian peninsula of Istria is one of Europe‘s oldest settlement areas, the Pearl Of Adria with an eventful history and much multicultural flair; a rich interface between both Mediterranean and mediaeval cultures. In Koper, Istria’s economic centre and most important harbour city, the Old Town can be entered through the last remaining twelve gates of the city’s former defensive wall. In its heyday the city boomed with wine, oil, salt and fish and many merchants and craftsmen from Italy settled there and the Palazzo Belgramoni Tacco became the region‘s museum. The mediaeval town of Piran is located on a narrow promontory that juts out into Piran Bay like the bow of a ship. On a cliff above the old town is the Sanct George Church, and a bell tower on the town’s fortified walls provides a splendid view of the mainland, a maze of roof tops and the main square. Travelling further south, Poreć is picturesquely situated on a peninsula and City Hall reveals much of its history. In 1267, Poreć, as Istria’s first city, was affiliated to the Serenissima and palaces, squares and religious buildings were constructed. In the fertile countryside lies yet another Istrian gem, Hum, the ‘smallest town in the world’ with its well-preserved gate, cobblestones and single lane. Portorož is the only real resort on the Slovenian Riviera with several hotels lining its waterfront and since the Danube Monarchy it has been a fashionable meeting place of the elite of Central Europe. Istria is a beauty with many faces, a rediscovered Adria dream and an almost forgotten paradise.

Idrija (pronounced [ˈiːdɾija] (listen), in older sources Zgornja Idrija;[2] German: (Ober)idria,[2][3] Italian: Idria) is a town in western Slovenia. It is the seat of the Municipality of Idrija. It is located in the traditional region of the Slovenian Littoral and is in the Gorizia Statistical Region. It is notable for its mercury mine with stores and infrastructure, as well as miners' living quarters, and a miners' theatre. Together with the Spanish mine at Almadén, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012.[4] In 2011, Idrija was given the Alpine Town of the Year award.
The town of Idrija lies in the Idrija Basin, surrounded by the Idrija Hills. It is traversed by the Idrijca River, which is joined there by Nikova Creek. It includes the hamlets of Brusovše, Cegovnica, Prenjuta, and Žabja Vas close to the town center, as well as the more outlying hamlets of Češnjice, Ljubevč, Kovačev Rovt, Marof, Mokraška Vas, Podroteja, Razpotje, Staje, and Zahoda. The Marof hydroelectric plant is located on the Idrijca River on the northern outskirts of Idrija, between Marof and Mokraška Vas.
Mercury was discovered in Idrija (known as Idria under Austrian rule) in the late 15th century (various sources cite 1490,[5][6][7] 1492,[8][9] and 1497[5][7]). Mining operations were taken over by the government in 1580. The mineral idrialite, discovered here in 1832, is named after the town.
According to legend, a bucket maker working in a local spring spotted a small amount of liquid mercury over 500 years ago. Idrija is one of the few places in the world where mercury occurs in both its elemental liquid state and as cinnabar (mercury sulfide) ore. The subterranean shaft mine entrance known as Anthony's Shaft (Antonijev rov) is used today for tours of the upper levels, complete with life-sized depictions of workers over the ages. The lower levels, which extend to almost 400 meters below the surface and are no longer being actively mined, are currently being cleaned up.
The parish church in the town is dedicated to Saint Joseph the Worker and belongs to the Diocese of Koper. There are three other churches in Idrija, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, Saint Anthony of Padua, and Our Lady of Sorrows.[10]

Brežice from above
Brežice prides itself on a rich historical and cultural heritage. The Lower Sava Valley Museum (Slovene: Posavski muzej Brežice), housed in Brežice Castle, contains archaeological and ethnological exhibits, exhibits on the Croatian and Slovenian peasant revolt, and a modern history collection. It is one of the largest regional museums in the country. A more recent landmark addition to the town is its water tower, as well as the double arches of the 527 m long iron bridge, which spans the Sava and Krka rivers.
