A Day of Cycling Around Kyoto Attractions [Cycling Japan]
Welcome to day 2 of our Kansai Cycling Trip across Japan. In day 1, we rode our bikes from Nagoya to Lake Biwa and down to Kyoto and had a bit of a rough night due to our hotel double booking us and not telling us about it until we arrived.
Fortunately, we finally found a new hotel to stay at and now begins day 2. Today, we're just riding our road bikes around a couple Kyoto attractions, mainly Fushimi Inari Taisha and Arashiyama.
Kyoto is a pretty compact and relatively flat city, making it great to get around by bicycle. There are also lots of shops that do bike rentals and also a couple good river cycling paths that you can use to get around.
Here's our cycling route that we did on Strava in case you want to follow a similar path. We passed by a lot of other attractions as well, including kinkakuji and Ryoanji, but unfortunately did not have enough time to stop everywhere.

Japan Trip: Engetsu Island Symbol of Nanki shirahama Wakayama05
Shirahama is a well developed hot spring(onsen) resort 100 kilometers south of Osaka. Caused of its proximity to Osaka, caused Shirahama to become one of Japan's three biggest onsen resorts, along with Atami on the Izu Peninsula and Beppu on Kyushu.
Many large hotels are located around the beach so that visitors will be just a few steps from the water. Fireworks are held during summer.
Engetsu Island It is a uniquely shaped rock, located at the western coast of the city. Because of erosion, the center of island has an opening that resembles the full moon.
The setting sun can be seen through the hole in the middle of the rock in the evening of some days of the year.

Itajiki River, as its name means, its base is as if the river were filled with many sheets of wooden board (Ita). The base is flat as shown in this video. Many pensions with hot spring are located along this river and known as YUYA-ONSEN. Shinshiro-City, Aichi-Prefecture, Japan

Japan Trip: Embracing Tranquility at Usa Shrine, Oita Prefecture, Kunisaki, Oita023
Usa Shrine (宇佐神宮) is located at the base of the Kunisaki Peninsula in Oita Prefecture. Built in the 8th Century, it is dedicated to Hachiman, the god of archery and war.
The Hachiman-zukuri style of architecture is reflected in Usa Shrine. The shrine’s main hall (a designated national treasure) and another hall are connected by same roof, making the two halls into a single building. In addition, the two halls are surrounded by a covered corridor so it is difficult for “outsiders” to have a clear view into the halls.
Usa Shrine’s grounds contain an upper shrine complex, a lower shrine complex, a treasure hall, a couple of ponds and several auxiliary shrine buildings. Typically visitors enter the grounds through either its north or west entrance. Outside the north entrance are many small stores selling local souvenirs and other products.
The north entrance leads visitors to the Omotesando, the main shrine approach, where they will pass under the big vermilion torii gate to enter the shrine’s grounds. Visitors will see the treasure hall on the right. The treasure hall contains different cultural artifacts exhibits. Of particular significance is the ceremonial percussion instrument with a peacock emblem which is a designated national treasure.

From the west entrance, visitors will see a beautiful bride with a thatched roof known as Kurehashi. Unfortunately, the gates to the bridge is closed and only opened once every ten years during a festival. From the west shrine approach, visitors can walk to the Omotesando, the main shrine approach, while viewing the large pond with lotus plants. In addition to the lotus plants, visitors will notice a structure in the center of the lake. The structure is a Noh stage.
The upper shrine complex at the top of the hill consists of three main halls which are dedicated to Hachiman (Emperor Ojin), to his mother (Empress Jingu) and to his wife (Hime Okami). The lower shrine complex at the base of the hill also has three main halls dedicated to the same three deities. However, it is believed the halls in the upper shrine complex are more important than the lower shrine complex.

Via Bus: From Usa Station board the bus to Usa Shrine. The journey should take about 7 minutes and the cost is 240 yen one way. There are buses every hour.
Via Taxi: From Usa Station to Usa Shrine, a taxi would cost about 1600 yen one way.

Closed: Opened All Year Round

Shirahone Onsen (白骨温泉) is a lovely onsen (hot springs) town located within the Northern Japan Alps in Nagano Prefecture. The name shirahone literally means “white bone”. This may be due to the milky white spring water, which is nearly opaque with magnesium and calcium sediments. The water here is known for its healing powers and it is believed drinking this water can cure gastrointestinal pains.
There is only one public bath in this town. However, many of the ryokan (inns) allow non-staying visitors to use their hot springs baths (onsen) in the daytime for a nominal charge.
Located along the river, Notemburo is a public hot springs bath in Shirahone Onsen Town. From the road, visitors need to utilize a long staircase towards the river to enter this bathing facility. The baths are gender separated.
As the onsen (hot springs) is next to the river, bathers can relax and unwind as they listen to sounds of river water flowing.

Nagoya Castle (名古屋城, Nagoyajō) was built in the beginning of the Edo Period as the seat of one of the three branches of the ruling Tokugawa family, the Owari branch. As such, it was one of the largest castles in the country, and the castle town around it ultimately grew to become Japan's fourth largest city.
It becomes an attractive hanami spot during the cherry blossom season which usually peaks in late March or early April.

Saat mengunjungi pengunungan Arashiyama di Kyoto, obalah berjalan-jalan menyusuri rumpun bambu. Para wisatawan bisa menyusuri bambu-bambu itu dengan berjalan kaki, bersepeda, atau menggunakan becak tradisional Jepang / rickshaw. Dari jalan utama di Arashiyama, pintu masuk menuju rumpun pohon bambu berada di sebelah utara kuil Tenryu. Hanya ada satu jalan untuk menyusuri rumpun bambu ini. Sepanjang jalan, wisatawan bisa merasakan seakan-akan sedang berada di dunia yang berbeda. Berada di antara rumpun bambu merasakan tiupan angin sepoi-sepoi yang membuat pohon-pohon bambu bergoyang lembut . Jika beruntung, wisatawan juga bisa melihat cahaya matahari muncul di antara batang bambu dan merupakan pemandangan yang menakjubkan. Wisatawan kemudian akan dibawa menuju kuil Nonomiya di mana terdapat beberapa dewa di sini. Banyak wisatawan mengunjungi kuil ini untuk menemukan pasangan hidup yang baik dan untuk kelahiran seorang anak.
Dijual juga beberapa produk peralatan sehari-hari yang terbuat dari bambu.Diantaranya adalah keranjang, cangkir, kotak dan tikar.

Kastil Nagoya didirikan di awal periode jaman Edo sebagai salah satu markas dari tiga benteng yang dikuasai keluarga Tokugawa, untuk wilayah Owari. Dengan demikian, berarti kastil Nagoya adalah salah satu istana dan kota benteng terbesar di negara ini yang akhirnya tumbuh menjadi kota terbesar keempat di Jepang. Sebagian besar bangunan benteng hancur dalam serangan udara pada tahun 1945, termasuk kastil dan bangunan istana. Rekonstruksi kastil dilakukan pada tahun 1959, kastil menjadi sebuah museum modern yang memamerkan sejarah tentang kastil Nagoya. Taman di sekitar kastil dikelilingi dua parit dan tembok megah, di mana bisa menyaksikan keindahan sakura di akhir Maret sampai awal April di sini. Proyek renovasi kastil dimulai tahun 2009, kali ini menggunakan teknik dan bahan bangunan tradisional.Bagian pertama dari istana direkonstruksi, termasuk pintu masuk.
