North Korean Department Store (Pyongyang)
I visit the Kwangbok Area Supermarket in the North Korean capital city Pyongyang. This large department store opened in January 2012.
One of the best Dept Store in Pyongyang - North Korea
Rakwon Department Store, which can be found on Changgwang Street in the capital’s central district, is operated by Daesung Corporation, part of the powerful No.39 Department of the Chosun Workers’ Party. Lying in an area near Changgwangwon, Air Koryo HQ and the Changgwangsan Hotel, with one of the city’s nicest apartment complexes directly behind it, the store boasts state-of-the-art facilities.
On the first floor, there is a supermarket selling food and other daily requirements, while electronics and clothes are to be found on the second floor.
As the pictures show, all prices are denominated in Euro.

[N.Korea Video Report] No merchandise for sale at North Korea's flagship department store
◎ASIAPRESS rimjingang playlist
Pyongyang Department Store No. 1, located in Pyongyang's Central District, is North Korea's premier state-owned department store and a symbol of North Korean socialist commerce.
Kim Jong-il praised the “Commodity Exhibition”, held at Pyongyang Department Store No.1 in July 2011, as an advancement in socialist commerce. Shortly thereafter, in August, reporter Gu Gwang-ho visited the department store.
The images, caught on camera by Gu Gwang-ho, show a department store that, in essence, has become a huge exhibition hall where next to nothing is actually sold.
Even though various goods such as food, clothing, and industrial products are on display, those working at the department store all say that the products are not for sale.
At some stores, long lines of people form to buy domestic cigarettes and shoes at government-fixed prices, which are much lower than market prices. However, official ration tickets provided by the authorities are required in order to buy them. Purchasing goods here is a privilege that is not extended to everyone.
There are many products in the electronics stores, such as TVs and washing machines, but no one buys them due to their high prices. Instead, people buy such products at markets, where they can bargain for a cheaper price.
Gu explains that the reason for the existence of the department store is to 'show everyone that North Korean socialism is alive and well’.

====================================================
Ok, so this is my 46th video that I uploaded, many people asked me..
How could you upload youtube video in NK?.
He uploads the video after he back to Indonesia, because he didn't dare if he upload directly from NK.
Nope..that is not entirely True..
#jakaparker #northkorea #koreautara
The answer is..
I already back to Indonesia, and currently I live in Indonesia..
My first 23 videos was uploaded when I was in North Korea.
The most different thing that when I uploaded video in NK, for a 15 minute video needed two days to upload, because the internet there was unstable due to electricity on off several times in a day..I can’t subscribe for cellular internet mobile because its way too expensive and..not reliable too...
but..when in Indonesia, I can choose which provider for internet and to upload a 15 minute video need only few minutes...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK..
back to this video..
I was going to a store which was located inside the Diplomatic Compound in Munsu District, behind Vietnam Embassy (you can check it out in Google Maps)
Sure..because these videos is about my daily life in NK...so I only posted about my routines things that I am doing in NK).
This store named Pyongyang Shop, which only several people who can access inside, only Foreigners and local Korean people who can get permission to be inside Diplomatic Compound (usually Korean people who works for foreign Organisations and embassies).
Btw.. sorry for bad English and Korean..
Any viewers who understand Korean language might be laughing hearing me trying to make conversations with the locals..please pardon me

LEADIN
North Koreans are buzzing with excitement at a newly opened shopping centre in the capital, Pyongyang.
It's been opened as part of efforts to increase the availability of consumer goods in the country, but it has a special significance because it's one of the last places that the late North Korean leader, Kim Jong Il visited in the days before he died in December 2011.
STORYLINE:
The new Kwangbok Area Commercial Centre is making shopping history in Pyongyang.
Citizens can now shop for everything from toothpaste to television sets in one place.
Although common for many people around the world, these aisles lined with daily necessities are a rare sight in North Korea.
Kwangbok is the name of a district in the west of the North Korean capital. Built in the 1980s, it's a concentration of high rise apartment blocks.
The shopping centre originally opened years ago in the 1990s, but recently it's undergone a major facelift, thanks to a joint venture between North Korea's Taesong General Trading Corporation, and China's Feihaimengxin International Trade Company.

The Luxury Store in North Korea
This shop is called Rakwon Dept. Store, one of the fancy stores located in North Korea. 90% of products sold here are foreign products, and the price is quite 'classy'. One time I took my daughters to buy toys at this store, and my kids chose expensive toys, I refused to buy it and distract them to buy cheaper toys, then the chaos ensued. Lol
