Stitch Uganda Together
The village of Bunabumali on the slopes of Mt. Elgon in southeastern Uganda, has a history of landslides. Over a thousand people have been killed in recent years, leaving many homeless. The Nakhokho family, who includes eight children of their own, adopted another 12 kids and created the Good Samaritan Orphan & Needy School.
Norman Nakhokho invited Stitch Uganda Together to the village to make hammocks that would provide beds. We brought sewing machines and fabric, and in a single day they made 20 hammocks. Hammocks are uncommon in Uganda. In fact, no one we met had ever seen a hammock.
Hammocks are useful for many reasons. In the rainy season, a person can stay clean and dry up off the ground. It is a comfortable, portable bed that can be rapped around you like a
cocoon, keeping biting bugs out, protecting from malaria. For the many suffering from AIDS, sleep is necessary to keep the immune system strong. Simply having a hammock for comforting rest can greatly increase a person quality of life, and we can give that to them.
We are seeking action heroes for our next project in Uganda, fall/winter 2009. We are going to plant gardens and make playgrounds in addition to sewing hammocks. Will you show up?
Action Hero Hammocks are currently being created by villagers in Bunabumali, and by Life in Africa, an artist collective in Kampala, Uganda, and you can buy one soon at ActionHeroNetwork.net! Every hammock purchased will enable us to give a hammock freely to a person in need.
Murchison Falls, Uganda
It's not a quick or easy road journey to get up north to Murchison
Falls in Uganda, but both the national park and the waterfall are worth
the effort. Standing here at the top of the falls, the force of the
waters of the Nile are powerfully entrancing.

Going to School on- Rick Watford
This is a short vid with me practicing/ going to school on Rick Watford. He is a beast. I caught him playing live for CeCe Winans a few years ago and have been a fan ever since. It's not perfect or a note for note cover. Just having fun and learning from one of the masters. Ok, that's it.

Rhino Family at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
During our second weekend in Uganda, our group visited the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary located near the mid-point between Kampala and Gulu. Rhinos are native to Uganda's grasslands, but the population was virtually wiped out under the reign of Idi Amin in the 1970's; the last rhino seen was in 1983.
An organization called Rhino Fund Uganda, which established the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, is helping bring rhinos back to their natural habitat. While all three types of rhinos in existence are endangered, the Rhino Fund is focusing on Southern White rhinos, since these feed entirely on the type of grass that covers the 27 sq. mi. sanctuary. The rhinos at Ziwa are the only wild rhinos in Uganda today.
This video shows dad Taleo, mom Bella, and baby Augustu grazing in the middle of the afternoon. Taleo and Bella, both from Kenya, were two of the first rhinos to arrive at the sanctuary. Augustu, who will turn one in October, is part of the first generation of rhinos being born in Uganda in decades. In the video, Taleo, the dominant male at the sanctuary, feeds alone, while Augustu stays close to his mother.
The Rhino Fund's goal is to breed a viable population of about 30 rhinos, then release them into Murchison Falls National Park.
