Daitoku-ji or The Temple of Great Virtue is a Buddhist temple in the Kita-ku district of Northern Kyoto. The temple belongs to the Rinzai school of Japanese Buddhism. The complex consists of two dozens of sub temples and is famous for the Zen rock gardens. In this video, you can see some of the main buildings and gardens of the Daitoku-ji temple. Unfortunately, filming and taking pictures is strictly prohibited in certain places including the Deisen-in temple. Anyway, I hope you will enjoy this walk through the Daitokuji complex.

You may think that Kyoto is like a Raden Makie bako box.
This is because Raden in the lacquer gap reminds us of the many Japanese gardens in modern Kyoto.
What to discover from a treasure chest called Kyoto It depends on the visitors.

Daikaku-ji in Spring, 2011 Kyoto City!
Daikaku-ji temple was a 9th century detached palace of an emperor and was converted into a temple later. The oldest building of this temple probably dates back to 16th or 17th century. The big temple has excellent shoheki-ga, or fusuma-e paintings of which reproductions you can see in the buildings.
The large Osawa-no-ike pond is said to be the oldest garden pond in Japan and was used by emperors and nobles for boating. It was also a popular spot for viewing the moon.
Daikaku-ji is the head temple of Daikaku-ji sect of Shingon Buddhism. Shinden and Seishinden buildings of this temple are important cultural properties of Japan.

Japanese New Year Buddhist Ritual - Matsushima
Kōrin Ritual
On the night of the new year, a Zuigan-ji monk rings a bell whilst chanting the Heart Sutra.
Until just before dawn he visits the houses of Matsushima to taste sake or ume tea offerings left for him.
To see the monk, or to fail to hear him, brings misfortune. Households wait quietly in darkness.

Japan Trip: Daitokuji Temple beautiful Zen gardens & architectures, Kyoto072 Moopon
Daitokuji is a large walled temple complex in northern Kyoto and the head temple of the Rinzai sect's Daitokuji school of Japanese Zen Buddhism. The complex contains nearly two dozen subtemples and offers a chance to see a wide variety of Zen gardens and to come into contact with Zen culture and architecture, the best compared to other such places in Japan.
Daitokuji's main buildings of the Sanmon Gate, Hatto Hall, Butsuden Hall and Hojo Residence are arranged on the east side of the temple grounds, which is according to the classical layout of a Zen monastery. Although they are not usually open to the public, visitors may look into the interior of the Butsuden.
Around the main buildings are nearly two dozen subtemples, many of which were additionally built in the complex by feudal lords coming from across Japan. Four of the subtemples are open to the public on a regular basis, while some of the others have temporary special openings.
