ACE Tennis 14-Year Old Angelyna Tatsuko singles highlights at the Yamanashi State Junior High School Spring Championships in Kose Park, Yamanashi, Japan. Losing only two games to the quarterfinals of the 128 draw event, Angelyna Tatsuko is just as overpowering as anyone into the quarterfinals, striking aces as well as groundstroke winners. But like her younger sister, she also is not seeded accordingly and is denied reaching the semi-finals and qualifying for the All-Kanto Regional Junior High School Championships by the eventual finalist.

ACE Tennis 13-year old Christyna Seiko SF-Finals highlights at the Yamanashi State Junior High School Spring Championships in Kose Park, Yamanashi, Japan. After subpar play in her doubles quarterfinals through finals, Christyna Seiko gets a one-round bye as the #6 seed before dominating her way through the toughest quarter of the 128-player draw, crushing the current Yamanashi 12U State Champion as well as the #3 seed. In the semifinal, she jumps out to a 3-1 lead against the #2 seed, but long rallies causes fatigue to become a factor in her eighth match of the day against only the fifth for her opponent, who did not play doubles as she did. She
ultimately strains her hamstring. Needing to keep points short, she shifts gears and gets more aggressive approaching the net with swing-volleys to overcome a 4-5 deficit to take the next two games for an apparent 6-5 victory (6:42 mark). However, after shaking hands and leaving the court, her own doubles partner and others informed her opponent that the match should not be finished. Christyna Seiko was brought back to the court and told to continue the match (7:05 mark). Although she knew her older sister had twice lost matches under these same circumstances (score was not final, but she had shaken hands and left the court), the tournament referee informed her that this tournament was not going to follow that rule. The drama was short-lived though, as she handled the increased pressure better and easily won the final game, adding a glare to the people who cheered against her after match point (7:54 mark).
In the finals she faced a rested #1 seed, who had not lost a game in five matches (30 games), while Christyna Seiko had played 58 games over eight matches in over nine hours on court! With her hamstring tight, the advantage was evident as she fell behind 0-3, but once she found her rhythm, she drew within 3-4 to challenge the heavily favored senior. The final two games hinged on a couple of key points, as she finally fell on a deciding point (no-ad scoring). However, the surprise run to the finals qualified her for the Kanto Regional Junior High School Championships.
NOTE: In total, Christyna Seiko played nine matches over 10 hours in one day. What is even more noteworthy is that while she was technically healthy before straining her hamstring in the eighth match, she continues to do absolutely zero running in tennis training for the past two years because of ongoing concerns regarding her hips/knees/ankles.
20150712 15-year old Angelyna Tatsuko Doubles Highlights at Yamanashi Summer in Kofu, Japan
ACE Tennis 15-year old Angelyna Tatsuko doubles highlights in the Yamanashi Summer State Championships (Adult) at Kose Park, Yamanashi, Japan. Although the #1 ranked junior doubles player and former junior high school state doubles champion, Angelyna Tatsuko is relegated to the B-Division because of having no points in the adult association. However, she has a first-time pairing with a good partner who is atop the B-Division rankings. They score an 8-1 victory over a high school pair before another 8-1 over a veteran pair. In the semi-finals, they drop the first three games before Angelyna Tatsuko holds serve and begins to assert herself. She slams a key point (9:01 mark) en route to sweeping the final eight games for an 8-3 win. They maintain a slim lead in the finals against a good high school pair before running through last four games. Angelyna Tatsuko punctuates the 8-3 victory with a trick shot volley (13:27 mark) that spins back into net after bouncing on her opponent's side. The title is the first for her partner and qualifies both for A-Division play in future events.

ACE Tennis 13-year old Christyna Seiko doubles highlights in the Yamanashi State President's Cup at Kose Park, Yamanashi, Japan. The 13-year old pair open with a bye before a solid 8-4 victory over a veteran pair. In the QF, the 14U State Champions face the High School State Champions who are 3-5 years older. They battle competitively, but come out on the losing end of some close games and find themselves down 0-5 before finally figuring out how to handle their senior opponents. They take the majority of the remaining games, however, ultimately fall 4-8. Although coming out on the losing end, they are confident to do better next time.

ACE Tennis 15-year old Angelyna Tatsuko highlights at the Yamanashi Nakamuta Cup Championships in Kose Park, Kofu, Japan. Angelyna Tatsuko enters as an injured 4th seed and is in a strong group in round robin play. Although against quality opposition, she finds her form and shuts out her first two opponents, 6-0. Her deciding match is against the 6th seed, who upset/outlasted her in the quarter-finals of the Yamanashi Junior High School Championships two months earlier while she was on a broken leg, 5-7. While injured again, she is playing well to earn a decisive 6-1 victory. Unfortunately, training to prepare for a quick, power game against the #1 seed in the semi-final, she actually draws the #2 seed, which would entail playing longer points on a fading leg. A bad line call (8:44 mark) denies her the second game to set the tone, and a flagrant, second bad line call (9:37 mark) steals the third game. The third bad line call (10:07 mark) in four games has the usually passive Angelyna Tatsuko so angered that she doesn't even want to continue playing. Between the growing pain and disgust in her semi-final opponent, she has a bad end to an otherwise impressive showing. Fortunately, as one of the top doubles players in the Kanto region (#1 by far in Yamanashi), she is the only player from Yamanashi to qualify for the Nakamuta Cup National Championships in doubles with a top player from Tokyo.

Losing only one game, Christyna Seiko has the most dominate run to the quarterfinals even though she serves underhanded to protect her shoulder, which had been separated seven weeks ago. But an official admitted she wasn't seeded according to her rank because she was the youngest player in the 128 draw event, therefore as the 8th seed she was stopped by the #1 seed and eventual champion, denying her a chance to reach the semi-finals and qualifying for the All-Kanto Regional Junior High School Championships as a freshman. Still her finish was the highest among all 7th graders, with most of the others who advance higher a senior.

ACE Tennis 13-Year Old Christyna Seiko singles highlights for third place at the 14U Yamanashi State (Prefecture) Junior Championships in Kose Park, Kofu, Japan. Christyna Seiko faces the 2014 Kofu Sectional Junior High School Singles Champion (which she and her sister only played doubles together in) for third place. The one-sided contest continued to show the separation between the big three and the rest of the state, as she cruised through the match and secured her place in the Kanto Junior Regional Championships.

ACE Tennis 13-Year Old Christyna Seiko highlights at the Yamanashi Nakamuta Cup Championships in Kose Park, Kofu, Japan. Once finding her form, 5th seed Christyna Seiko executes a patient and precise game plan in her first two round robin set/matches. In the deciding match, she takes on the 3rd seed and raises her intensity to score a decisive 6-1 victory and advance to the final four. Expecting to play the #2 seed, whom she has always beaten when healthy, she draws the #1 seed for the semi-final. Although in good form and confident in her re-match against the Yamanashi Junior High School champion, her faster, older opponent is tough to beat when she is at the top of her game. The #1 seed would advance to the Nakamuta Cup Kanto Regional Championships, where she would also qualify for the Nakamuta Cup National Championships. Although Christyna Seiko would not advance in the Nakamuta Cup, her recent showing at the Kanto Regional Junior Championships and Japan National Championships would catapult her firmly from #5 back to #2 in the girls 15 & Under division while still only 13 years old. The comeback to the top is nearly complete, after over a year of cascading injuries.
