Pristina .... Unfinished Serb Orthodox Church and Kosovo National Library
Right across the street from my apartment in Pristina is the Kosovo National Library. It was rated as one of the world's ugliest buildings. It was built in the early 1980s.
I found it rather unique and pleasing to look at. It's right next to a very sad site too. The unfinished Serbian Orthodox Church that was left to decay after the 1999 conflict.

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Memli Krasniqi, Kosovo Culture Minister:
These are seven artefacts which are an important part of the archaeological treasure of Kosovo, they are part of the identity of Kosovo and they speak about the early civilisations of our predecessors that have been alive in Kosovo thousands of years ago. We hope that this great example of cooperation will be followed first and foremost by Serbia which still holds, unjustly, more than 1,200 archaeological and ethnological artefacts which were taken away arbitrarily from Kosovo in 1999.
7. Cutaway of figurines in glass frames
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Memli Krasniqi, Kosovo Culture Minister:
Most likely they have been illegally transferred to Germany. There are no registry records for them. It has been a long period of expertise and analysis that we've done together with German authorities to conclude that they have been smuggled from Kosovo, that they have been found in Kosovo and that they are part of the neolithic Vinca culture which has been present all over Balkans but also very vividly in Kosovo.

STORYLINE
A collection of artefacts believed to have been stolen from Kosovo during the 1998-99 war, was returned to a Pristina museum on Friday.
The ancient terracotta figurines dating back to 4,000 years BC were found inside a sports bag in a restaurant in Germany, the German police officer who found them said.
Eckhard Laufer said an unrelated investigation opened in 2005 led to information on the stolen artefacts two years later, leading him to open a separate investigation.
The artefacts were returned to the Kosovo Archaeology Museum on Friday, joining the country's most emblematic terracotta figurine known as Goddess on the Throne.
It is unclear how the objects made their way to Germany, but authorities believe they were meant for offer to private collectors.
Since the artefacts had not been registered with Kosovo authorities previously, experts could not determine who stole them and when.
It has been a long period of expertise and analysis that we've done together with German authorities to conclude that they have been smuggled from Kosovo, said the Kosovo Culture Minister, Memli Krasniqi, at the museum.
Serbia took the entire collection of artefacts from Kosovo's Archaeology Museum in 1999 and relocated them to Belgrade just days before NATO troops took control of the province.
The collection is a hotly disputed theme between the two former foes with Kosovo insisting they must be returned to where they were found.
We hope that this great example of cooperation will be followed first and foremost by Serbia which still holds, unjustly, more than 1,200 archaeological and ethnological artefact which were taken away arbitrarily from Kosovo in 1999, Krasniqi said.
Kosovo seceded from Serbia in 2008, but Belgrade has vowed not to recognise the move.
