This is another promotional video of 88Holidays which is featuring Kota Kayang Museum Perlis.Located in a lush forest area between Kangar and Kuala Perlis, Kota Kayang Museum is positioned close to what was historically a fortified area. In fact, the word 'Kota' translates as fort in English. Built as a replica of a palace in an ancient sultanate, the wooden structure houses the history of both early Perlis and Kedah civilizations.
The museum homed to the tomb of the 15th Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Al-Marhum Kayang Sultan Dhiauddin Al-Mukarram Syah, who reigned from 1661 to 1687 and had made Kota Indera Kayangan the governmental capital of Kedah. With the remains of a palace surrounded on three sides by limestone outcrops, the site is marked by two simple mausoleums with gravestones and the remnants of timbers that demarcated the burial sites.
There is an archaeology section which houses ceramics complete with the 400-year-old history of Perlis. Other attractions include the Kedah Sultanate genealogy and information on ties between the sultanate and the Perlis royalty, the state during the Japanese Occupation (1941 to 1943) and Siamese Rule (1943 to 1945). Daggers, brassware, keris and the Perlis royal regalia are also on display at the museum. There is also the bunga emas (gold ornaments in the shape of flowering plants) which were gifts sent to the Siamese King in Bangkok when the state was under Siamese rule. Facilities that available include, recreational park, car park and public washrooms. For more information please log on to or or

Tourism Destination- Kuala Perlis
This is another promotional video from 88Holidays. Kuala Perlis jetty is one of the two major departure points for the legendary Langkawi Island, the other being the Kuala Kedah in Kedah. Kuala Perlis has long been a major port linking Perlis with Langkawi, Penang as well as Phuket Island and other southern coastal Thai towns.
Located at the estuary of Sungai Perlis (Perlis River), about 13km from Kangar town, Kuala Perlis is actually a quaint fishing town known for delicacies such as ikan bakar (grilled fish), assam laksa (noodles served with spicy fish gravy) and fresh seafood. It is a good place to relax at dusk and watch a spectacular sunset, or the fishermen returning with their catch. The major activity found here is fishing and many superb seafood restaurants can be found in this small fishing town.
Not only is seafood fresh in Perlis, but it is relatively cheaper than it is in the capital city. Have the fun of eating seafood is selecting the exact critters that you want seasoned, cooked, fried, barbequed, grilled, or sauted, and served to you. The port town of Kuala Perlis is wedged on a strip of Andaman coast backed by mangroves and sheltered at the foothills of the Nakawan limestone range, a one-hour journey by boat from Langkawi or a 15-minute ride from Kangar.
The small port in town is mainly used for fishing and loading or unloading small-scale cargo arriving from Thailand and Indonesia. There are also customs and immigration offices here, where those going further on into Thailand via Satun province can stamp out before embarking on the 45-minute boat journey to enter Thailand at Thammalang near Satun.
Although small, a lot of activity goes on in this slightly fish-smelly port. The ferry from Langkawi sees a lot of daily passengers pass through, together with ships and fishing boats constantly docking and embarking near customs, yet there's not much public transport other than taxis and a Cityliner bus to Kangar.
In general, Perlis is mostly crime free, but in border areas -- such as here -- it's worth reminding travellers to keep an eye on their belongings and only use licensed taxis or the bus.
Even though Padang Besar border crossing is the most used and usually the easiest way into Thailand, you can opt to take a boat from Kuala Perlis to Thammalang in Satun province. There is an immigration station on the fishing pier some 200m from the intersection.
Head through a small security gate and the immigration booth where you stamp out of Malaysia is to the right. They are open 07:00-19:00 daily, but before you stamp out make sure you settle a price with the Thai boatmen that wait for passengers to Thammalang. A starting share price is usually 15 ringgit. It is not a good idea to do this crossing in stormy weather.

According to history, the 4.84 acres of land where the State Museum now stands was granted by Raja Syed Alwi to his younger brother, Syed Salim bin Syed Muhammad al-Jafri, who was a senior minister to the King.
Towards the end of the 19th century, Syed Salim built his residence and stayed there with his family until it was sold to the State Government just after the signing of the 1909 Bangkok Treaty. After that, the building became the official residence of the state British Advisors. The first British Advisor, Mr. Meadow Frost and his successors resided in the house until the Second World War in 1941. From 1941 until 1943, the building was taken over by Japanese Military Administration, while from 1943 until 1945, the Thai Military Government took over the building.
After Independence, the building became the Perlis Chief Minister's official residence. It became popularly known as Rumah Tetamu (Guest House) after it was vacated by Chief Minister Dato' Jaafar Hassan in early 1980s. In 1991, the building was demolished to make way for the construction of the present State Museum, which is structurally identical to the old building. The Kompleks Warisan Negeri (State Heritage Complex) is also within the compounds of the State Museum.
