Perast + Our Lady of the Rocks | Day Trip from Kotor, Montenegro Travel Food Video Transcript:
Well good morning good morning guys. Good morning guys. It is another beautiful day here in Kotor (Котор) so we decided let's take a day trip. So we're going to be hopping on a bus and visiting Perast which is a small little town also by the water. Um yeah and once we're there we can hop on a boat and go visit a few islands so it should be a nice day.
We did manage to find the bus, though it involved running up the street since we were in the wrong spot, but aside from that, it was a quick 20-minute ride up the coast to Perast.
Located on the Bay of Kotor, Perast (Perasto) is a small town that hit its peak in the 18th century under the Venetian Republic. During this time, it had as many as four active shipyards and the citizens of the town were allowed to trade and sell goods without tax on the Venetian market. This made them very wealthy, and while today Perast has more of a sleepy vibe, you can still see traces of that wealth in the number of palazzos that line the waterfront.
So the boat frequency turned out to be more like 30 minutes - that morning we learned “just 5 minutes” should not be taken literally.
There are two islands off the coast of Perast (Perasto). One is St. George, which holds an old monastery and is not open to visitors, and the other is Our Lady of the Rocks, which we visited. The latter is an artificial island that was created by sinking old ships loaded with rocks. Here you’ll find the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks, which is the main attraction. To be honest, this is a quick visit and you likely won’t need more than 15-20 minutes on the island, but you do get some nice views of the surrounding mountains.
Then, after that little excursion we could only think about one thing: lunch!
After Sam’s drone session, we had enough time to climb up to visit one more church, and then it was pretty much time to call it a day.
Perast (Perasto) is a charming seaside town, but it’s very small and some of the tourist sights weren’t open so there wasn't much to do, but it’s great for a half-day trip if you want to see something aside from Kotor (Котор)!
Alright guys so here we are wrapping up a lovely little day trip from Kotor (Котор). Yeah, it sure was lovely and such an affordable trip. I mean we only paid 1 Euro each way. We're just waiting to catch the bus that comes every half hour. Just a few hours here is enough time really. You can wander around the old town, you can take a boat ride out to the islands, have a nice comfortable lunch. Do maybe a little bit more exploring. And then you're ready to go back. So it makes for a great half day trip I would say. Bye for now.

This Kotor walking tour was a great introduction to the old town. We visited the top sights around the town and could then decide which attractions we could go back and go inside.
Our guide, Ivana, was very friendly, knowledgeable and spoke great English.
Kotor is a must-see destination in Montenegro and this tour gave us a great introduction and information that we would never have found on our own.

Montenegro
The pearl of the Mediterranean, unique in many ways, is situated in the south of the Adriatic. Nowhere else can you find, so much natural wealth, beauty, mild beaches, clear lakes, fast rivers, and gorgeous mountains in such a compact area as in Montenegro.
Kotor: Wedged between brooding mountains and a moody corner of the bay, the achingly atmospheric Kotor (Котор) is perfectly at one with its setting. Hemmed in by staunch walls snaking improbably up the surrounding slopes, the town is a medieval maze of museums, churches, cafe-strewn squares and Venetian palaces and pillories.
Things to do in Kotor:
Go to the top of the fortress:
The one activity you should definitely do in Kotor bay is to hike to the top of the fortress. Just follow the signs from Kotor’s Old Town all the way to the top. It is only a small fee to take the trail. Although sometimes the trail is crowded, you will still find plenty of space to look around and enjoy the best views in Kotor.
Go to Kotor’s Old Town
The Old Town in Kotor is considered to be the best-preserved medieval walled town in the entire Mediterranean. The walls themselves stretch to 20-meters high, and believe it or not, they’re over a thousand years old. Walking around this part of Kotor, mainly cobblestoned streets, is the best way to get to know Montenegro as a whole. You will find everything you need in this part of Kotor; locals, boutiques shops and plenty of bars and cafes to go around and meet local and touristic people
Go to Kotor’s Sveti Tripun Cathedral
In Kotor’s Old Town you will find the Sveti Tripun Cathedral, this amazing architecture wonder is dedicated to its protector, Sveti Tripun. This roman catholic cathedral is the largest and most beautiful structure in the area of Kotor. Just remember you will need to pay a small fee to go inside, but again, as with almost everything in Kotor and Montenegro, it is definitely worth it.
Go to “Our Lady of the Rocks”
The first is Our Lady of the Rocks – a manmade island created by sinking old ships with rocks. The church comes with a museum attached, and even a gift shop. The other nearby island is Sveti Dorde Island, a natural island, but with Saint George Benedictine monastery and an old graveyard attached.
