വളരെ ചുരുങ്ങിയ കാലത്തിനിടെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു സ്ഥലമാണ് കാസർകോട് ജില്ലയിലെ റാണി പുരം. മനോഹരമായ പച്ചപ്പുൽത്തകിടികളും ഹൃദയം കവരുന്ന മഴക്കാടുകളുമാണ് റാണി‌പുരത്തെ സഞ്ചാരികളുടെ സ്വർഗമാക്കി‌ത്തീർക്കുന്നത്. നിരവധി സസ്യജന്തു വൈവിധ്യങ്ങളുടെ കലവറയാണ് റാണിപുരത്തെ വന്യജീവി സങ്കേതം. ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് ഒന്നര മണിക്കൂർ യാത്ര ചെയ്താൽ കർണാടകയിലെ പ്രശസ്തമായ തീർത്ഥാടന കേന്ദ്രമായ തലക്കാവേരിയിൽ എത്താം.

സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് 750 അടി ഉയരത്തിലായാണ് റാണിപുരത്തിന്റെ കിടപ്പ്. ട്രെക്കിംഗ് ‌പ്രിയരുടെ പറുദീസയായ റാണിപുരത്ത് നിരവധി ട്രെക്കിംഗ് പാതകൾ ഉണ്ട്. ചെങ്കുത്തായ പാതകളിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിച്ച് വേണം ഇവിടെ ട്രെക്കിംഗ് നടത്താൻ. ട്രെക്കിംഗിലൂടെ മൊട്ടകുന്ന് കയറി മലമുകളിൽ എത്തിയാൽ സുന്ദരമായ കാഴ്ചകളാണ് സഞ്ചാരികളെ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നത്.

Situated 750 m above sea level, Ranipuram is famous for its trekking trails and varied vegetation - evergreen shola woods, monsoon forests and grasslands. This area was formerly known as Madathumala. The extensive forests of Madathumala merge with the forests of Karnataka. Ranipuram in its natural beauty is comparable to Ooty. Wild elephants can be seen wandering on the top of the mountains. Jeep services to Ranipuram are readily available from Panathady, which is linked to Kanhangad by frequent bus services. Accommodation: DTPC cottages.

Kottancheri is a beautiful picnic spot, about 4000 ft above sea level.

The hills have forests, grass lands and plantations. Kottancheri is at the extreme north of Konnakkad. Ranipuram is near and the forests have similar wildlife.
It is a great trekking spot. Tourist accommodations aren’t available , so day tours are only possible. Please bring food & water for the day. Nearest village edible available is Konnakad

Konnakkad is about 66 kms from Kasargod town and 48 kms from Kanhangad.

ചന്ദ്രഗിരി കോട്ട || Chandragiri Fort || പുഴയുടെ പേരിലുള്ള കോട്ട

Chandragiri Fort is a fort built in the 17th century, situated in Kasaragod District of Kerala, South India. This large squarish fort is 150 feet (46 m) above sea level and occupies an area of about seven acres by the side of the river Chandragiri.
The fort has an eventful history. In earlier days, the river was considered to be the border of two powerful kingdoms - Kolathunadu and Thulunadu. When Thulunadu was captured by the Vijayanagara Empire, the Kolathunadu kings lost the Chandragiri region to them. During the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire, the area was administratively looked after by the Keladi Nayakas of Ikkeri. When the Vijayanagara Empire fell in the 16th century, Vengappa Nayaka declared independence. Later Shivappa Nayaka took over the reins. He built a chain of forts of which Chandragiri is part.
