Koukounaries Beach is a most visited beach in Skiathos with beautiful golden sand and crystal clear water. Also known as Chrisi Ammos (meaning - golden sand).
Koukounaries is one of the few locations in Greece where a Stone Pine forest still exists.

Skiathos Greece and Koukounaries beach
Skiathos is a small Greek island in the northwest Aegean Sea.
There are over 60 beaches in Skiathos, all sandy including Koukounaries rated 7th best beach in the world and best in Greece. Also Banana Beach just around the headland is the island's only Naturist Beach and is fantastic and very sheltered.
If you want a quiet holiday - fine have one. If you want to walk in the hills - fine do that and if you want to lie on a beach - that too!
This is a great place to go for families. Not so good for older people who will suffer from the heat and the hills on the island.
Skiathos Town is the place to eat and to be seen eating. The beautiful people meet up here, have a meal in one of the harbour-side restaurants and just pass the time over wine and cocktails.
No words to describe how truly amazing Koukounaries beach is! It has everything you want. White powdery sand, warm blue sea, wildlife, a forest backdrop a bar, café changing facilities and clean toilets, all discretely hidden among the trees.
The pine forest that borders the beach is heaven on earth! You definitely must visit it!

Koukounaries beach is the most famous beach of Skiathos and the most crowded. It is well-known for its extremely fine white sand, crystal-clear deep blue waters and its pine trees forest (from which the region took its name).
It is considered as the most unspoiled natural beach of the Mediterranean.

Skiathos: Koukounaries Beach
Koukounaries (Greek: Κουκουναριές), means 'Stone Pines' in Greek. At Koukounaries there is a lagoon and a wooded peninsula with a Stone Pine (Pinus pinea) forest separating the lagoon from the Aegean Sea. On the seaward side of the peninsula there is a popular fine-textured beach called 'Koukounaries Beach' or Chrisi Ammos (Greek: Χρυσή Άμμος, meaning 'golden sand'). This is one of the few locations in Greece where a Stone Pine forest still exists.[2][3]
Koukounaries was once known as Maratha (Μάραθα). Until 1964, when Skiathos was designated by the Greek National Tourism Organisation as a special development zone for tourism, the Town of Skiathos was the only settlement on the island.

Koukounaries Beach is the most famous beach of Skiathos and in the TOP 10 in Greece.
It is situated on south western corner of the Skiathos island and is about 13 km from the town.
Koukounaries is well known for its extremely fine white sand, crystal clean deep blue waters and the fragrant pine trees forest.
The name of the beach and the region comes from the beautiful pine forest located all along the beach (about 700 metars). Just behind forest is lake Strofilia.
Koukounaries beach is considered as the most unspoiled natural beach of the Mediterranean. Also, it is important wetland shelter rare species of birds during migration, such as swans, herons, ducks etc..
Therefore, it is developed for ecotourism and protected and financed by the Municipality and the Europian Union!

hi guys,this years greek holiday to Skiathos 2012.Just thought i would show you a video of bus stop 26,Koukounaries Beach.Its a beautiful and place,just to explain that Skiathos only has one long main road that starts at bus stop 0.and ends at 26.This bus stop also has a nudist beach and also banana beach.Well worth the 2 euros for the bus ride and the buses are every 15 minutes.
