In this final episode, I travel along the south coast of Cyprus from Paphos to Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite's Rock), ancient Roman Kourion, the city of Limassol (Lemesos) and Governor's Beach. All of these sites are definitely worth visiting and I enjoyed my visit to Limassol (Lemesos) where I had great coffee and food.

Kourion (Cyprus) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kourion in Cyprus.
An ancient ruined city of immense dimensions, Kourion is one of the most interesting archaeological sites on the southern coast of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. Tourists from all over the world visit the impressive ruins of the ancient city that is spectacularly located on a cliff seventy metres above the sea. The city’s well preserved and restored theatre was once an Hellenistic complex and was transformed during the Roman period. It featured three and a half thousand seats and a splendid view across the beach, the Akrotiri Peninsula, and the sea. Each performance must have been a veritable adventure! The House Of The Gladiators is a large private Patrician building, named after the fascinating battle scenes on its floor. The House Of The Achill is a residence whose floor mosaics feature various geometrical patterns and ancient heroes dressed in female attire. Outside the former city wall is the Stadium. The remains of its stone tribunes line the two hundred and seventeen metre long arena. Alas, in the seventh century Arab invasion caused Kourion’s eventual downfall.

The Ancient City-Kingdom of Kourion in Cyprus
This footage was taken at the Kourion archaeological site in Cyprus during the middle of February 2014. It's basically my first flight with the full intent of getting usable footage instead of merely getting used to the FPV-rig and learning how not to crash into things.
The city itself dates back to about the 12th century BCE, which makes it roughly contemporary with the Trojan War. One of the island's old city-kingdoms, Kourion was wiped out in the great earthquake of 365 CE, which laid to waste most of the region, ushering in the fall of the old pagan cults and the dominance of Christianity. It really is a fascinating sort of place, well worth a visit if you have even the slightest interest in history and you happen to find yourself in Cyprus.

Kourion Archaeological Site in Limassol, Cyprus
Kourion Archaeological Site in Limassol, Cyprus
The archaeological remains of Kourion - which was one of the island’s most important city-kingdoms in antiquity - are of the most impressive on the island, and excavations have unearthed many significant finds, which can be viewed at the site.
The city-kingdom was built on the hills of the area, and overlooked and controlled the fertile valley of the river Kouris. According to archaeological finds, evidence suggests that Kourion was associated with the Greek legend of Argos of Peloponnese, and that its inhabitants believed they were descendents of Argean immigrants. The once-flourishing kingdom was eventually destroyed in a severe earthquake in 365 AD.
The magnificent Greco-Roman theatre - the site’s centrepiece - was built in the 2nd century BC and extended in the 2nd century AD. The theatre has been restored, and is now used for open-air musical and theatrical performances - mainly during the summer months - making it one of the most popular settings for high-calibre cultural events.
East of the theatre are the remains of a prominent building, the ‘House of Eustolios’, which was originally a private villa that was turned into a public recreation centre during the Early Christian period.
Whilst the villa was modest in size, it was well equipped and richly adorned. Its remains consist of four panels of beautiful, 5th century mosaic floors in the central room, and a bathing complex that is located on a higher level, accessed by steps, north of the building. A roof structure allows visitors to enjoy the site all year round, and explore its remnants.
The baths themselves originally opened off the central room to the north and east, where there were cold baths (frigidarium). Before each is a shallow foot-bath; while on the west, the remains of the hypocausts - which heated the medium room (tepidarium), and the hot room (caldarium) - can be seen. In the latter, the built-in basins for hot baths have survived, as have the firing chambers, where hot air was carried through the hypocausts, travelling up through specially-cut flues, through the walls, and beneath the terracotta tiles of the floor.
Along with the House of Eustolios, there are further impressive mosaic floors in the ‘House of Achilles’ and the ‘House of the Gladiators’, with the villas named after the scenes depicted on the mosaics.
The remains of the Roman Agora are also visible at the site. The structure dates back to the early 3rd century, with additions made later on, during the Early Christian period. The Roman Agora is built on the remains of an earlier public building, which was in use from the end of the 4th century to the end of Hellenistic period.
The Agora of the city is surrounded by porticos with marble columns on both sides, whilst on its northwest side, is an impressive public bath and a small temple, the Nymphaeum, dedicated to the water nymphs.
An early Christian basilica at the site dates back to the 5th century, with separate baptistery on the external northern side.
The Stadium of Kourion lies 1km to the west, on the right side of the road towards Pafos.

Curium Kourion one of the best sight attractions in Cyprus - Kούριον Αρχαίο Στάδιο 2019
Curium (Kourion) is sure for the best sights, attractions and the best things to do in Cyprus. The archaeological site of Curium (Kourion) is on a hill-side just outside the city of Limassol (on the southwest side of the island).
Curium is one of the most important and impressive archaeological sites in Cyprus. It was one of the most powerful city kingdoms of ancient Cyprus.
Its majestic place, the theatre, the treasury, a stoa (covered walkway), a palaestra (ancient Greek wrestling school), the temples, the baths, the market, the archaic, the circular “temenos and the temple of Apollo Hylates all show just how developed were these ancient inhabitants of the region.
The city dates back to the 8th century BC when an ancient monument was built and dedicated to the God Apollo Hylates meaning the God of the forests. Inscriptions that have been found show that Apollo was worshipped as the protector of Kourion and the worship continued until the 4th AD.

CYPRUS: The Kourion Archaeological site in Limassol
Limassol Cyprus
Kourion - Limassol holidays, Cyprus
Kourion -
Kourion beach can be found 20 kilometres outside Limassol, but its certainly worth a trip worth taking. One of the more peaceful in the resort because of its location, the beech is steeped in local history. Overlooking Kourion are the ancient ruins of an old Amphitheatre that once stood there, which offers you some magnificent scenery to enjoy. A number of restaurants can be found close to the beach where you can end your day enjoying some traditional Cypriot food, whilst watching the sunset behind the ruins.
