Kovalam is a beach town by the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala, India, located around 16 km from the city center.
Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees.
Kovalam first received attention when the Regent Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi of Travancore constructed her beach resort, Halcyon Castle, here towards the end of the 1920s. Thereafter the place was brought to the public eye by her nephew the Maharaja of Travancore. The European guests of the then Travancore kingdom discovered the potentiality of Kovalam beach as a tourist destination in the 1930s. However, Kovalam shot into limelight in the early seventies with arrivals of the masses of hippies on their way to Ceylon in the Hippie Trail. This exodus started the transformation of a casual fishing village of Kerala into one of the most important tourist destinations in all India.

Kovalam is a small coastal town in the southern indian state of Kerala, south of Thiruvananthapuram. At the southern end of Lighthouse Beach is a striped lighthouse with a viewing platform. Palm-backed beaches also include Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach. Heading south, Vizhinjam Juma Masjid mosque overlooks the busy fishing harbor. Inland, Sagarika Marine Research Aquarium displays technology used in pearl production.

We visited Kovalam Beach last Sunday. Kovalam is a beach town by the Arabian Sea, located 15 kilometers from Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram). Kovalam is one of the top ranked beaches in India.
Till the 1990s, Kovalam used to be a topless beach. Not so, as of now.
Vizhinjam lighthouse is one of the main attractions of Kovalam Beach.
There are many adventure activities like scuba diving, speed boating, etc in Kovalam.

Being a beach destination, Kovalam has some of the best restaurants that can offer extraordinary seafood. I had some tandoori prawns there.

kovalam beach (Light House) beach in Trivandrum (KERALA) in HD- One of most beautiful beach of India
Kovalam is a small coastal town in the southern Indian state of Kerala, south of Thiruvananthapuram.This beach is named after this lighthouse, which is probably the prime attraction of this beach.
Lighthouse Beach, a long stretch of sand, is located along the Malabar Coast. Out of the three beaches of Kovalam, this beach is the largest. At the southern end of this beach, stands a 30 metre high lighthouse.
The lighthouse has an observation platform, which can be reached by climbing 142 steps. Tourists can get a view of Beemapalli Mosque in one direction and Poovar on the other. Water sports like swimming, parasailing and surfing can be enjoyed at this beach.
KOVALAM | KERALA | MEDITATION, FOOD & BEACHES | INDIA
We spent the last week in Kovalam, a small town in the southern state of Kerala, India, famous for yoga and meditation retreats. Southern Indian food is amazing and there is no shortage of restaurants in Kovalam, so we tried as much food as we could. We also spent 5 days learning zen meditation, specialising in kinhin walking meditation. Overall Kovalam is a fantastic place for travel, it offers something to please everybody- from beautiful beaches, amazing food, shopping, Ayurvedic treatments, yoga and meditation retreats and super friendly people.

So all you have to do is Just book the kind of place you want and live it up by the beach.
2) Whoa! We are at Number 2 which was not very easy to pick. With so many exquisite beaches in our fun loving Goa, how do you choose just one??? So Go GOA!!!!
Arambol, Vagator, Palolem, Baga, Chapora, Anjuna, Candolim, Calangute, Colva, Agonda……just keep ticking off the beaches and keep visiting this stretch of around 100 of kilometers on the West Coast of India for more and more. Kovalam has three beaches separated by rocky outcroppings in its 17 km coastline, the three together form the famous crescent of the Kovalam beach.
