Upon arrival to Krabi Airport, meet and transfer to check in at the hotel. A short hop from the Hot Springs will take you to the Krabi Emerald Pool ('Sa Morakot' in Thai). The Emerald Pool is set in lush rainforest jungle with towering trees and the constant rhythmic music of crickets and frogs.
You can walk through the jungle along very well maintained paths and enjoy the humid but cooler air in the shade of the trees. In addition, there are several canals originating from the province's highest mountain range, Khao Phanom Bencha including Khlong Pakasai, Khlong Krabi Yai and Khlong Krabi Noi. Lush mangrove forests line the canals and the banks of Maenam Krabi particularly before it empties into the Andaman Sea. The provinces sandy soil conditions are suitable for growing various agricultural products, particularly rubber trees, palms, coconuts, cashew nuts and coffee.

Hua Hin to Bangkok (by Bus)
The public bus is cheap and good. (around 150 Baht one way)
May 2012
Samrong Food Market, Samut Prakan, Thailand.
Samrong Food Market. This is a vast market covering two area's of Samrong. The food is fresh every day, and the choice of seafood, is vast. Though not quite as cheap as Samut Prakan market, this is still a very good and relatively cheap market to do your daily or weekly shopping.
Samrong in the Province of Samut Prakan - soon to be brought into life with the opening of the Sky Train link in 2010. This will open the link farther from On Nut ( Terminal station at the moment ) to Soi Baering near Samrong. This extra link will make it so much easier to get into Bangkok. A journey that can take up to two hours at the wrong time. Even on a good day this trip into central Bangkok is a nightmare. Many different ways have been tried to cut journey times. But Taxi's or Buses face the same traffic hold-ups.
Samrong is ideally situated for shopping. With Imperial World, housing Big C supermarket, IT City Computer retailer and many smaller retailers offering all manner of goods for sale. Carrefour is a few minutes Taxi ride towards Samut Prakan. And the newly renovated Tesco - Lotus store at Srinakarin is about ten minutes in a taxi. This huge store also houses many varieties of smaller shops and restaurants much the same as Imperial World and Carrefour. Within short distance of Samrong you have many places of interest to visit. The Ancient City,or Ancient Siam as its now called, Crocodile Farm, Erawan Museum, Thai Royal Navy museum at Naval Historical Park, Fort Phra Chulachomklao.

Amphawa Floating Market, Samut Songkhram, Thailand. ( 7 )
Amphawa Floating Market.
I visited this Floating market in 2011, but I picked a day when it was closed, so I only got to do the river cruise. It seems there are two cruises from Amphawa, turning left out of the market which I did in 2011 and turning right out of the market. The left hand cruise took me down the Mae Klong River visiting mainly restaurants and small stores selling produce. The one cruise turning right took me to a number of Temples which catered for anyone calling there. The cruise I did in 2015 was 50 Baht each, the one I did in 2011 was 700 Baht for the boat trip taking 4 people. This river trip is well worth the time for the money you get to see many parts of the area from the river.
The one trip turning right however is perhaps the more interesting one. Taking in 5 temple visits. The last however was a disappointment. The temple was beautiful enough but the many animals in pens there was not good. I found it strange for Buddhist monks to allow this. Many of the animals were quite distressed under the hot unbearable mid day sun with no shelter. The pens they kept them in were not too clean, I am not against zoo’s, as such providing the animals are clean, fed well, have enough shelter and room to move about, but clearly at this temple they did not. So this was a sad part of the river trip for me.
Amphawa is in the Province of Samut Songkhram, its neighbours being Phetchaburi, Ratchaburi and Samut Sakhon Provinces. Locally Samut Songkhram is known as Mae Klong from the name of the river that flows through it. The province is the smallest of all the Thai Provinces. This Province is famous for the famous train market, Mae Klong Market, The Market is on a daily used rail track. Two trains a day run along this section at around 10.45 and 13.00 hours. All manner of items are available here. Its also called the umbrella market, due to to all the market stalls folding back their awnings of the stalls along the market here to let the train run through.
Originally constructed as a private line to take sea produce from the fishing ports of Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram to the markets of Bangkok, it later became part of the State Railway of Thailand, though it was never physically connected to the rest of the network. This little known line has a great charm, passing through surprisingly unspoilt countryside, and apparently ending in the middle of the fresh food market ( known as the Train Market ) in Samut Songkhram. It is a wonderful sight to see all these market stalls fold back their awnings of their stalls to let the train run through. Most of them don’t even bother to move most of the food on display. I cannot see how the dripping water from the train can add to the nutritional value of this food however!
The Floating market is held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they advertise from 12.00 pm to 08.00 pm. But I arrived at about 10.30 am and was able to secure a shaded car park under a tree, before all the visitors arrived. Amphawa is a district or Amphoe of Samut Songkhram Province, located slightly inland at the northwestern tip of the Bay of Bangkok. It is about two hours from Bangkok, passing through the suburbs of Bangkok where many road works were being made for the new extension of the Sky Train. Along the Pet Kasem road, and through Bang Khae. The addition of this new Sky Train extension will be an added bonus to this part of Bangkok.
In the Ayutthaya period, the area of Amphawa was known as Khwaeng Bang Chang, a small agricultural and commercial community, specialising in farming. During the reign of Prasat Thong the existence of a market here was very prominent to the local economy. In 1766, the later King Buddha Loetla Nabhalai ( Rama II ) was born in this area, as his father was serving as governor of Ratchaburi at that time. At his birthplace is now a Memorial Park with four buildings in traditional style of that area and time factor, displaying art as well as lifestyle in those times.. There are many temples of rich beauty and design & historical significance in this area, but two of the most interesting are Wat Bang Kung, famous for a small chapel that is completely enclosed within the roots of a banyan tree and Wat Bangkae Noi which has quite a breathtaking view because the interior walls and ceiling of the main chapel have intricate teakwood carvings depicting the life and teachings of the Lord Buddha.

SUMMARY
=======
Thailand ( TY-land), officially the Kingdom of Thailand and formerly known as Siam, is a country at the center of the Southeast Asian Indochinese peninsula composed of 76 provinces. At 513,120 km2 (198,120 sq mi) and over 68 million people, Thailand is the world's 50th largest country by total area and the 21st-most-populous country. The capital and largest city is Bangkok, a special administrative area. Thailand is bordered to the north by Myanmar and Laos, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Myanmar. Its maritime boundaries include Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast, and Indonesia and India on the Andaman Sea to the southwest. Although nominally a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy, the most recent coup in 2014 established a de facto military dictatorship.
Tai peoples migrated from southwestern China to mainland Southeast Asia from the 11th century; the oldest known mention of their presence in the region by the exonym Siamese dates to the 12th century. Various Indianised kingdoms such as the Mon, the Khmer Empire and Malay states ruled the region, competing with Thai states such as Ngoenyang, the Sukhothai Kingdom, Lan Na and the Ayutthaya Kingdom, which rivaled each other. European contact began in 1511 with a Portuguese diplomatic mission to Ayutthaya, one of the great powers in the region. Ayutthaya reached its peak during cosmopolitan Narai's reign (1656–88), gradually declining thereafter until being ultimately destroyed in 1767 in a war with Burma. Taksin quickly reunified the fragmented territory and established the short-lived Thonburi Kingdom. He was succeeded in 1782 by Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke, the first monarch of the Chakri dynasty and founder of the Rattanakosin Kingdom, which lasted into the early 20th century.
Through the 18th and 19th centuries, Siam faced pressure from France and the United Kingdom, including forced concessions of territory, but nevertheless it remained the only Southeast Asian country to avoid direct Western rule. Following a bloodless revolution in 1932, Siam became a constitutional monarchy and changed its official name to Thailand. While it joined the Allies in World War I, Thailand was an Axis satellite in World War II. In the late 1950s, a military coup revived the monarchy's historically influential role in politics. Thailand became a major ally of the United States and played a key anti-communist role in the region. Apart from a brief period of parliamentary democracy in the mid 1970s, Thailand has periodically alternated between democracy and military rule. In the 21st century, Thailand endured a political crisis that culminated in two coups and the establishment of its current and 20th constitution by the military junta.
Thailand is a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy under a military junta. Thailand is a founding member of Association of Southeast Asian Nations and remains a major ally of the US. Despite its comparatively sporadic changes in leadership, it is considered a regional power in Southeast Asia and a middle power in global affairs. With a high level of human development, the second largest economy in Southeast Asia, and the 20th largest by PPP, Thailand is classified as a newly industrialized economy; manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism are leading sectors of the economy.

The Great Gildersleeve: Marjorie the Actress / Sleigh Ride / Gildy to Run for Mayor
The Great Gildersleeve (1941--1957), initially written by Leonard Lewis Levinson, was one of broadcast history's earliest spin-off programs. Built around Throckmorton Philharmonic Gildersleeve, a character who had been a staple on the classic radio situation comedy Fibber McGee and Molly, first introduced on Oct. 3, 1939, ep. #216. The Great Gildersleeve enjoyed its greatest success in the 1940s. Actor Harold Peary played the character during its transition from the parent show into the spin-off and later in a quartet of feature films released at the height of the show's popularity.
On Fibber McGee and Molly, Peary's Gildersleeve was a pompous windbag who became a consistent McGee nemesis. You're a haa-aa-aa-aard man, McGee! became a Gildersleeve catchphrase. The character was given several conflicting first names on Fibber McGee and Molly, and on one episode his middle name was revealed as Philharmonic. Gildy admits as much at the end of Gildersleeve's Diary on the Fibber McGee and Molly series (Oct. 22, 1940).
He soon became so popular that Kraft Foods—looking primarily to promote its Parkay margarine spread — sponsored a new series with Peary's Gildersleeve as the central, slightly softened and slightly befuddled focus of a lively new family.
Premiering on August 31, 1941, The Great Gildersleeve moved the title character from the McGees' Wistful Vista to Summerfield, where Gildersleeve now oversaw his late brother-in-law's estate and took on the rearing of his orphaned niece and nephew, Marjorie (originally played by Lurene Tuttle and followed by Louise Erickson and Mary Lee Robb) and Leroy Forester (Walter Tetley). The household also included a cook named Birdie. Curiously, while Gildersleeve had occasionally spoken of his (never-present) wife in some Fibber episodes, in his own series the character was a confirmed bachelor.
In a striking forerunner to such later television hits as Bachelor Father and Family Affair, both of which are centered on well-to-do uncles taking in their deceased siblings' children, Gildersleeve was a bachelor raising two children while, at first, administering a girdle manufacturing company (If you want a better corset, of course, it's a Gildersleeve) and then for the bulk of the show's run, serving as Summerfield's water commissioner, between time with the ladies and nights with the boys. The Great Gildersleeve may have been the first broadcast show to be centered on a single parent balancing child-rearing, work, and a social life, done with taste and genuine wit, often at the expense of Gildersleeve's now slightly understated pomposity.
Many of the original episodes were co-written by John Whedon, father of Tom Whedon (who wrote The Golden Girls), and grandfather of Deadwood scripter Zack Whedon and Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog).
The key to the show was Peary, whose booming voice and facility with moans, groans, laughs, shudders and inflection was as close to body language and facial suggestion as a voice could get. Peary was so effective, and Gildersleeve became so familiar a character, that he was referenced and satirized periodically in other comedies and in a few cartoons.
The Great Gildersleeve: Disappearing Christmas Gifts / Economy This Christmas / Family Christmas
