The salt mine in Krakow is insanely old and intricately carved. The history there is pretty amazing. We only wish we had more time to explore, and more information! Our audio guides were glitchy as heck, and we felt very rushed from spot to spot. That being said, it was a unique experience that we don't regret. It cost 89 Zloty (23 USD), which is fairly a lot considering the whole tour is over in less than 2 hours.

Wieliczka Salt Mine: An Underground Monument in Krakow, Poland
The Wieliczka Salt Mine (Polish: Kopalnia Soli Wieliczka) is one of the most amazing sites you will ever in Krakow, Poland. The salt mine opened in the 13th century and has produced table salt continuously until 2007. The mine's attractions include dozens of statues and four chapels carved out of the rock salt by the miners. Often referred to as the underground salt cathedral of Poland, the mine was placed on the original UNESCO list of the World Heritage Sites in 1978.

The Wieliczka salt mine reaches a depth of 327 meters and is over 287 kilometres long. The rock salt is naturally grey in various shades, resembling unpolished granite rather than the white or crystalline look that many visitors may expect. In the 13th century, rock salt was discovered in Wieliczka and the first shafts were dug.

Trip to Poland - Wieliczka Salt Mine & Auschwitz Concentration Camp
This is one large video compilation of the trip put together, I'll upload individual videos of each places soon. This was m y first trip away and all though I enjoyed it, it was an absolute disaster as well lol Firstly I couldn't get the hire car I had payed for, ruining 90% of my plans which was a lot of abandoned buildings. So I only managed the tour side of things, visiting the Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz Concentration Camp.Being tours it was hard to get decent footage as I was rushed in keeping up with the rest of the group, so this is the best I could do. Second disaster was the bank machine taking my card, leaving me with hardly any money for the first 3 nights. Being alone this wasn't the most pleasant thing that has ever happened to me. Despite those issues, I had a great time. I stayed in Krakow which is an amazing city! And I have to say the Polish woman are quite nice to look at too hehe. I'll hopefully return soon in a couple of months and retry the Urbex side of things. I kept passing by abandoned places in the bus and taxis and it was torture being unable to go in them, so next time I'll make sure I get the hire car! Hope you guys enjoy! :-)

Krakow Salt Mines, Museum Fail, Train Couchette - Krakow, Poland
We have 12 hours left in Poland. We attempt to see the underground museum, end up 130 meters deep in a salt mine, and discover train couchettes.
Day Trip AUSCHWITZ Concentration & Extermination Camps
While in Kraków we decided to head to Oświęcim to see the Auschwitz Birkenau Memorial and Museum. As usual, we opted for the DIY tour, caught an early train from Kraków and managed to get in during the free entry hours.
If you want to see this museum with a guide, you’ll have to pay for an educator. You can do this online or once you are there (it’s recommended to book online early to get a slot with someone that speaks you’re preferred language, however we’ve heard that it’s possible to just turn up and book once there). This is the link to book online
If you want to go in for free and without a guide like us, then you will need to visit between 7am and 10am or after 4pm. Between 10am and 4pm they make you pay for a guided tour (these hours may slightly differ depending on the season you visit, so we suggest you check first).
You can either catch a bus from Krakow to Oswiecim or a train, we went for the train because we prefer them over buses, but we’ve heard the bus trip can sometimes be faster.
We would also recommend giving yourself some time to wander around the town of Oswiecim. Its a really lovely little town with lots of places to eat and it can give you some reflection time before getting back on the train or bus.

Backpacking Europe - Krakow, Poland + Auschwitz + Salt Mines
It takes a while to get to Krakow by train but well worth it. This place is a gem. So much history to experience. Our main reason for visiting Krakow was to visit nearby Auschwitz. To make this trek and pay our respects was very important and one we will never forget.

Wieliczka Salt Mine - Krakow
It 'Friday, August 15, the feast also in Krakow.
We wake up, we have breakfast and then we wait The bus sent to us by the agency that will take us to the salt mine of Wieliczka. The bus arrives on time. Driving Taddeo
Left our hotel we get to the mine; after parking the van Taddeo takes us to the entrance. We go with the visit in Italian at 9:45
Beneath the soil of Wieliczka it is one of the oldest salt mines in the world, working from the prehistoric.
Exploited for 750 years, the mines of Wieliczka, is a unique cultural monument.
The mine extends over nine levels, the deepest of which is 327 m below the earth's soil.
The network of tunnels is currently more or less 300 km long, of which only 3.5 kilometers available for sightseeing. Along the way you can see statues of historical figures and religious, all sculpted by miners directly in the rooms.
The mine has also decorated rooms, chapels and underground lakes. Even the crystals of the chandeliers were forged in the halls.
That Wieliczka is commonly called the underground salt cathedral of Poland, and is visited each year by about 800,000 people.
