Welcome to... Krakow
Founded on the legend of a dragon lurking beneath the fairy-tale Wawel Castle that overlooks the bending river; Krakow is definitely one of those cities that has an air of magic to it. The Old Town has one of the largest medieval market squares in Europe, and churches that soar high above all the other buildings - it is hard not to be impressed. In fact even the Nazi’s fell in love with Krakow and made it their home during WWII, preserving it while the rest of Poland was bombed to rubble. Nowadays it is home to hundreds of thousands of students, so there is a modern buzz filling up the hundreds of restaurants, bars and clubs.
TOP THINGS TO SEE:
Main Market Square - The largest medieval market square in Europe, this is the heart of Krakow, where locals come to eat, drink, shop and stroll.
St Mary’s Church - This 14th century church towers over one corner of the main square, drawing visitors to see the carved wooden altarpiece, or hear the hourly trumpet calls.
Kazimierz - The old Jewish Quarter has been reborn as a hip place to eat, drink and shop at all hours of the day.
Schindler Factory Museum - Learn about Krakow under Nazi occupation at this museum housed in the former factory of German businessman Oskar Schindler.
Wawel - Once upon a time, Krakow was the capital of Poland, and Wawel was the royal residence.
FOODS TO TRY:
Pierogi - The humble dumpling is always there for you, whether you have a huge appetite or just need a little snack. There’s meat filled, or vegetarian, sweet or savoury. The choice is yours-and if you want to choose everything, don’t worry, it won’t break the bank.
HIDDEN GEM:
Mercy Brown - Step into the prohibition era in this hidden speakeasy which serves cocktails made of top shelf Polish vodka, and other imaginitive ingredients, like sparkling birch juice and pine sap.

Ojcow National Park - Castles Ojcow National Park - Tours, Tickets and Activities.
Ojcow National Park - Castles Ojcow National Park - Tours, Tickets and Activities. The first stop – only 24km from Kraków – is one of the best. Despite being one of the smallest of PL’s 23 national parks, Ojców ranks with the best of them and even takes the prize for fauna with over 1,000 species of flowering plants within its boundaries. Covering the most cherished cultural and natural territory of the Jura Upland, the park is characterised by steep slopes and several fantastic rock formations including the 25m high ‘Hercules’ Club’ and the 15m ‘Kraków Gate’. There are some 400 caves registered in the park, the two largest of which – Ciemna (230 metres long) and Łokietka (270m) – are open to the public. Ojców is also home to two castles. Not much remains of Kazimierz’s Castle save its entry gate and Gothic tower with a tiny exhibition on its history; at its foot you’ll find the nap-worthy Ojców NP museum, breaking down the flora, fauna, geology and archaeology of the park.Pieskowa Skała is a different case altogether. On the park’s northern border overlooking a scenic valley, Pieskowa Skała was originally founded in the 14th century by Kazimierz the Great and converted into a Renaissance residence in the 1500s. Repeatedly restored and expanded upon by numerous owners after the incidents of several centuries the castle was returned to its 16th century form when renovations were most recently completed in the 1950s and 60s. Today one of the most glorious examples of Renaissanceresidentialarchitecture in Poland, the castle chambers are home to three permanent exhibits: 14th to 19th century Polish art (11/9zł), the English Painting Gallery (10/6zł), and the Castle History exhibit (included with ticket to another exhibit; combined ticket for all three exhibits 18/11zł). Krakow Travel Guide - Poland Magical Time
Krakow Travel Guide - Poland Magical Time
Kraków (Cracow) is not only a historical and visual gem, it's Poland's second largest city and covers both banks of the Wisla (or Vistula) river. At the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, the metropolitan area has more than 1.4 million inhabitants if you include the surrounding communities. Kraków is also known as Cracow, or Krakow (without the diacritic) and dates back to at least the 7th century. It was the capital of Poland from 1038 to 1569 and then of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth from 1569 to 1596 (1609 by some accounts) and this long history has made it one of the leading hubs of Polish academic, cultural, and economic life.
Although Kraków is officially divided into eighteen dzielnica or boroughs, each with a considerable degree of autonomy within the municipal government, this division is relatively recent and prior to March 1991, the city had been divided into just the four quarters of Podgórze, Nowa Huta, Krowodrza and the ancient town centre of Kraków itself.
(The historic Old City is now officially situated in District (I), Stare Miasto. Even though the words Stare Miasto mean 'old town', it should not be confused with the historic old town of Krakow itself, as the medieval old town is only a small central part of District I Stare Miasto).
Some of the communities around the edge of Kraków can show you real Polish life away from the tourist-focused economy of the centre.
Kraków distinct areas:
Old Town — Consists of the historic Kraków Old Town, as well as the Wawel castle hill, Nowe Miasto (New Town), Nowy Świat (New World), Kleparz, Okół, which previously was situated between the Wawel hill and the Old Town but soon became part of the latter, Piasek, Stradom and Warszawskie (partly in Prądnik Czerwony). Kraków's historic centre, covering the Old Town and Wawel was entered on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1978. These are the most popular tourist destinations, and if your time is limited, you would be best sticking to these. Kazimierz - Area located really close to the Old Town, independent city in medieval times with a Christian quarter in the West and a former largely Jewish quarter in the East.
Western part
Zwierzyniec — The greenest area in Krakow; includes Błonia, Las Wolski forest and the Kosciuszko Mound.
Krowodrza
Grzegórzki
Prądnik Czerwony
Prądnik Biały
Bronowice
Southern part
Podgórze — The area on the southern bank of the river Vistula, where the Jewish ghetto was located during the Nazi occupation.
Dębniki — Green area to the South West of Old Town, which includes the Tyniec Monastery.
Łagiewniki-Borek Fałęcki
Swoszowice
Podgórze Duchackie
Bieżanów-Prokocim
Eastern part
Nowa Huta — The New Steel Mill area built in the communist era.
Czyżyny
Mistrzejowice
Bieńczyce
Wzgórza Krzesławickie
Depending on your level of fitness, you can see the whole of the city centre without needing any transport. There are some beautiful walking routes, try the Royal Way or the Planty park that surrounds the old city all the way from Florian's Gate to Wawel castle. It is very relaxing. There is also a well cared for river bank next to the castle to stroll around.

Hiking in Poland- Ojcowski Park Narodowy
Ojcowski Park Narodowy – incredible kid-friendly hiking route just 20km from Krakow. You won’t hear “I can’t go any further!” as it is a short adventure (5km), from the parking and back. We took the black route to the Łokietka cave (did not go inside the cave as forgot to bring some warm clothes, it is 7 °C | 44 °F. down there), then from the cave an easy downhill trail to Brama Krakowska (Krakow Gate) and back to the parking lot. If you go on weekends it is better to arrive early, as the parking lot is full by 10 am. There are plenty of restaurants to enjoy traditional polish delights – pirogi, smoked goat cheese… The best one is the place with a lake, huge terrace and it's own trout farm where you can taste freshly caught grilled or smoked trout.

Bolechowicka Valley - small valley on Olkuska Highland, between Karniowice and Bolechowice, about 15 km from Cracow.
It's one of the shortest valleys near Krakow (has a length of about 1.5 km), but very attractive scenic. A few hundred meters from the Bolechowicka Gate going into the valley, there is a two-stage waterfall - a rarity in the Jura.
Dolina Bolechowicka – dolina na Wyżynie Olkuskiej znajdująca się między Karniowicami a Bolechowicami, około 15 km od Krakowa. Wchodzi w skład Parku Krajobrazowego Dolinki Krakowskie. Wejście do dolinki stanowi tzw.
VLOG 1: TRAVELING TO POLAND // HUGGA BUGGA
My first vlog video introducing my home country through traveling to Poland. Among the many attractions in Poland are the city of Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, the polish wowen, and many more! Some foreign citizens may even come to love Poland through its natural beauty found in the Polish Tatra mountains and town of Zakopane. By the end of their vacation many can be caught saying “polska jest piękna,” meaning “Poland is beautiful.” Throughout the vlogs of Mark Wolters in Wolter’s World and The Foreign Citizen on Youtube one can also see many European tourist attractions and interesting facts about Poland. Even though Poland has many beautiful cities and attractions, one can also find beauty in the smaller towns of Poland. Hugga introduces you to “Chodziez,” a small town in Poland one hour east of Poznan where her grandparents come from.
In this video we explore CHODZIEZ, Poland. An interesting fact about Chodziez, Poland, is that it is home to one of the most beautiful hand made porcelain! Detail is brought in through the designs of flowers on the plates and careful painting for unique dishes. It is also known as the “Switzerland of Poland” as it is situated among some of Poland's most beautiful lakes and forests.
Even though Bugga could not make it, I hope to bring him to Poland so that he can also experience the beauty of Poland with me some day. Poland also has my favorite music show known as Voice of Poland. I wish I could be a singer on the Voice of Poland.
Enjoy the video and my first vlog about Traveling to Poland!

Valley of Kluczwoda also known as the Valley of Wierzchówka - valley between villages Wierzchowie and Bolechowice on Olkuska Upland. It stretches for approx. 6 km.
Castle Rock, The Castle - a prominent limestone rock rising on the left orographic side of a creek Kluczwoda in the Kluczwoda Valley within the National Park Cracow Valleys.
The rock is very steep on all sides, but it's possible to reach its top. At the top there are remnants of the walls of the old castle.
Below Castle Rock, near Kluczwoda river is located small clearing, frequent resting place of tourists.

ENG: The Ojcowski National Park was established on January 14, 1956. It has an area of 1,890 ha of which forests occupy 1,349 ha, and 251 ha fully covered with forest are under strict protection. It is a second smallest among the Polish National Parks. The wealth of the Ojcowski National Park embraces rich plant and animal life, an unusual landscape made up of canyons up to 120 m deep, and white limestone cliffs containing innumerable caves (in fact about 215), formed by the eroding action of water. The Park's Museum, located in Ojcow, houses a rich collection exemplifying the region's flora, fauna, geological samples and archeological discoveries. The village of Ojcow, with the ruins of a castle, and nearby Pieskowa Skala Castle, are tourist centers located within the park boundary.
Ojcowski National Park is situated in the Jura Krakowsko-Czestochowska, just north of Krakow. The Park encompasses the most beautiful fragments of the Krakow-Wielun Upland. It entails the Pradnik and Saspowska Valleys and a number of side ravines. The view of the Pradnik Valley as it is seen from both the high vantage points such as the Okopy Hill, and from some points at the bottom of valleys, is truly unforgettable. The most famous one is certainly the view of Hercules' Club with the Pieskowa Skala Castle in foreground (seen above). The sight includes a characteristic, lone standing rock 25 m high, which owes its name to the shape, with the renaissance castle, perched on the slope and hidden in green trees in the distance. Another picturesque place is the karst form, known as Krakowska Gate, carved by geological processes through millenia in the limestone.
The Jura owes its present day shape mainly to the sea from the distant past and its inhabitants. Warm sea waves rippled there 140 million years ago, supporting rich life. Skeletons and shells of organisms, deposited at the sea bottom, were eventually converted into rocks, which in turn were exposed to the action of water, temperature, and wind. This history is witnessed by very common findings of ammonite, snail and other fossils in the rocks. The limestone, which builds Jura is continuously eroded by water, and this process creates caves, crevasses and island mountains. The largest number of these forms may be found in the region of Ojcow.
While in Ojcow, a tourist should visit one of the famous caves (guided tours only) - the Ciemna Cave or Lokietek Cave. The Ciemna Cave is a 230 m long system of corridors and chambers, where traces of human settlement from 120,000 to 115,000 B.C. have been found. The Lokietek Cave, which is 270 m long, is reputed to be a shelter, used by the Polish King Wladyslaw Lokietek in 14th century.
Fauna is represented by small mammals typical of a climatic zone (for example badger, marten, fox etc.), bird species that include owl and black woodpecker in addition to more common ones, reptiles, rare snails, and numerous insects. The caves are inhabited by many species of bats. There are 17 out of the total of 21 species living in Poland. They like the calm winter quarters in the caves of Ojcow. This Park is also home to many species of butterflies. It boasts over 600 species including the royal page (Papilio machaon).

Zamek Skala pieskowa - [22.05.2016]
Pieskowa Skała (pronounced [pʲɛsˈkɔva ˈskawa]; Polish for Little Dog's Rock), is a limestone cliff in the valley of river Prądnik, Poland, best known for its Renaissance castle. It is located within the boundaries of the Ojców National Park, 27 km north of Kraków, close to the village of Sułoszowa. The castle was first mentioned in Latin documents of Polish king Władysław I the Elbow-high (Władysław Łokietek) before 1315, as castrum Peskenstein.
Pieskowa Skała castle, built by King Casimir III the Great (Kazimierz Wielki), is one of the best-known examples of a defensive Polish Renaissance architecture. It was erected in the first half of the 14th century. It is part of the chain of fortified castles along the Trail of the Eagle's Nests, along the highland plane of the Polish Jura (Polish: Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska) extending north-west from Kraków to the city of Częstochowa.
The castle was renovated and donated in 1377 by king Louis I of Hungary (Ludwik Węgierski) to Piotr Szafraniec of Łuczyce, according to the 15th-century chronicler Jan Długosz. The Szafraniec family gained the full ownership rights of the castle in 1422 from King Władysław Jagiełło in recognition of faithful service at the Battle of Grunwald by Piotr Szafraniec, the chamberlain of Kraków.[2]
The castle was rebuilt in 1542–1544 by Niccolò Castiglione with participation from Gabriel Słoński of Kraków. The sponsor of the castle's reconstruction in the mannerist style was the Calvinist, Stanisław Szafraniec, voivode of Sandomierz. At that time the original medieval tower was transformed into a scenic double loggia decorated in the sgraffito technique. Between 1557 and 1578, the trapezoid-shaped courtyard was surrounded at the level of two upper stories by arcades, embellished with 21 macarons. The arcade reality above the gate is a 17th-century addition.
The last owner of the castle of Szafraniec family was Jędrzej, Stanisław's son, who died childless in 1608.[2] After his death, the estate was purchased by Maciej Łubnicki and later by the Zebrzydowski family. In 1640 Michał Zebrzydowski built the bastion fortifications with baroque gate and a chapel. The castle changed hands many times over the centuries. In 1903 it was bought by the Pieskowa Skała Society led by Adolf Dygasiński and with time turned over to the Polish state and meticulously restored.
