A youthful university city on the Danube in the heart of Bavaria, Ingolstadt is the headquarters of the car manufacturer Audi. You can return to the very origins of the brand at the Museum Mobile, and follow all stages of the high-tech production process on a factory tour.
South of the factory is an old town of gabled merchants’ houses, neatly preserved and encircled by a Neoclassical system of fortifications from the 19th century. Now the old redoubt, tower and cavalier are museums, while the city they protected has haunting Gothic and Medieval churches and civic buildings that go all the way back to the 13th and 14th centuries.
One of Germany’s leading carmakers of Audi Forum has an big visitor complex next to its factory to the north of Ingolstadt. In a stylish steel and glass building completed in 2000 is a museum documenting the history of the brand, and the companies like Wanderer, DKW and Horch that would eventually merge with Audi.Register in advance and you’ll be treated to a privileged look at the work that goes into each Audi.
The celebrated Late Baroque architects the Asam brothers designed this beautiful church in the 1730s. One of the things that strikes you about the Church of Our Lady is that its two western towers have two different heights. The park is named after Leo von Klenze, who designed the defences, including Reduit Tilly (redoubt) and Turm Triva (tower), which now host a branch of the Bavarian Army Museum and the Police Museum respectively.
Bavaria’s army museum is almost 140 years old, making it Germany’s oldest military museum, and moved to Ingolstadt from Munich in 1972. The main collection is in the Neues Schloss on the left bank on the Danube, while the First World War exhibition is in Reduit Tilly in the Klenzepark. Dating to 1385, Kreuztor is one of two of Ingolstadt’s four city gates still standing from the second Medieval ring of fortifications.
A department of the army museum, the police exhibition is in the Klenzepark’s Triva Tower and assembled objects going back to the Bavarian Revolution of 1918-19. Some of the engaging themes covered by the museum include the stormy days following the First World War, border security during the Cold War and the famed protests that took place in the 1980s against the construction of a nuclear reprocessing plant in Wackersdorf.
Ingolstadt’s old town hall is a compound of four different houses going back to the 1300s. Ingolstadt’s municipal museum is in Kavalier Hepp, a cavalier from the city’s Neoclassical fort, raised at the start of the 1840s. Behind the Altes Rathaus is the oldest building in Ingolstadt, going back to 1234. The Moritzirche also has traces of an even older building from the 800s when the city was founded.
The only specialised museum of its kind in the country is in the 18th-century anatomical theatre building established to train medical students at the University of Ingolstadt. The oldest secular building in Ingolstadt is the whitewashed Gothic castle built in 1255 for Louis II, Duke of Bavaria.

Antonius-Schwaige Ingolstadt
Die Geschichte der Antonius-Schwaige
Die Antonius-Schwaige wurde 1870 von meinem Ur-Großvater August Ponschab als landwirtschaftliches Anwesen erbaut. Ab 1902 wurde eine Flaschenbierabgabestelle errichtet und 1905 zu einem Ausflugslokal und Biergarten erweitert.
August Ponschab war Ingolstädter Brauereibesitzer des Berg-Bräus in der Innenstadt zwischen Kreuztor und Münster (jetziges „Mo“) und später sogar Bürgermeister und Reichstagsabgeordneter. Er vermachte das Anwesen meinem Großvater Anton Ponschab (daher Antonius-Schwaige).
Das besondere an der Antonius-Schwaige ist die Anordnung der einzelnen Gebäude zu einem Innenhof, der von ca. 110 jährigen Linden und einer Eiche, die 1906 anlässlich des 100-jährigen Jubiläums des Königreich Bayerns gepflanzt wurde, beschattet wird. Besonders originell ist die nördliche Begrenzung mit je einem Salettl an den Ecken und der dazwischen liegenden erhöhten Terrasse. Hier fanden die prominenten Gäste den gebührenden Sitzplatz bei Schäferfesten, Sängerfesten und Militärkonzerten, die zünftig mit Blasmusik, Tanz, einer Brotzeit und natürlich einer oder mehreren Maß Bier gefeiert wurden. Nach Westen blickt man auf die Felder und die dahinterliegende Auenlandschaft, wo damals ab und zu Reitturniere stattfanden.
Zum Ensemble gehören neben dem Hauptgebäude der eingeschossige Saalbau (früher Kegelbahn) und die 1905 erbaute Kapelle, die dem heiligen Augustinus und dem heiligen Antonius von Padua geweiht ist und auch heute noch drei mal täglich ihre Glocke läutet.
Im Jahre 1933 bekam die Antonius-Schwaige ein eigenes Windrad mit 29 Meter Höhe und einem Raddurchmesser von 9 Meter. Diese Anlage erzeugte den benötigten Strom und pumpte das klare Brunnenwasser zu Tage. Den Begriff „ENERGIEWENDE“ kannte damals noch niemand. Seit 1989 befindet sich diese alte Windturbinenanlage etwa 300 Meter weiter nördlich unterhalb der Schutter.
Der im ganzen Landkreis bekannten Schaukel (auch Kirtahutschn genannt) aus dem Jahre 1905 musste bereits sechs mal ein neues Schaukelbrett angefertigt werden, die von den vielen kleinen und großen Kindern regelrecht durchgewetzt werden. Bewirtet wurde die Ingolstädter Traditionsgaststätte damals nur Samstags und Sonntags.
Das selbstgebackene Brot und die hausgemachten Kücherl von meiner „Schwoag-Oma“ waren bis über die Stadtgrenzen bekannt.
Nach mehreren Umbauten und Pächterwechseln übernahm ich von meiner Mutter, Maria Wittmann geb. Ponschab, 2013/2014 das Anwesen. Ich sanierte es von Grund auf und betreibe es seither mit meiner Lebensgefährtin Monika Scheu selbst.

Der im Jahre 2003 gegründete „Förderverein Kreuztor Ingolstadt hat sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, sich dieser Frage anzunehmen und die Geldmittel hiefür zu beschaffen. Jeder Bürger der Stadt hat die Möglichkeit, durch eine Spende oder Mitgliedschaft (12.- Euro Jahresbeitrag) mit dazu beizutragen, daß dieses einmalige bauliche Wahrzeichen unserer Stadt nicht nur zu neuem Leben erweckt, sondern auch am Leben erhalten wird.

Am 06.11.2012 war die P.I.R.- Germany unterwegs in Ingolstadt, um für künftige Untersuchungen geeignete Orte zu suchen. Auch diesmal wurden kulturelle bzw. historische Aspekte nicht außer Acht gelassen.
Aufgesucht wurden das Bayerische Armeemuseum, die Ausstellung über den 1. Weltkrieg im Reduit Tilly (gegenüber dem Neuen Schloss) und das Kreuztor in der Altstadt in Ingolstadt.
Die Bilder über den 1. Weltkrieg dienen NICHT der Kriegsverherrlichung oder zum Zweck der Propaganda, sondern einzig und allein der Sicht auf das historische und dramatische Geschehen während dieser Epoche und deren Exponaten.

Im Rahmen der „Ingolstädter Instagram-Treffen“ bekamen interessierte Hobbyfotografen diesmal die Möglichkeit, in einem alten Wohnhaus in der Stargarder Straße zu fotografieren. Das Mietshaus aus den frühen 1970er-Jahren der Gemeinnützigen Wohnungsbaugesellschaft (GWG) wird in Kürze abgerissen.
Unter dem Motto „Location occupied for time“ haben insgesamt 17 Mitglieder des Berufsverbands Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler Oberbayern Nord und Ingolstadt (BBK) ein „begehbares Gesamtkunstwerk“ geschaffen und einige Wohnungen umgestaltet. Entstanden sind außergewöhnliche und interessante Kunstwerke und Installationen, die vor dem Hausabriss für Besucher öffentlich zugänglich waren.
Beim Instagram-Treffen konnte die Mischung aus „Lost Place“-Charakter des Gebäudes und „Kunstmuseum auf Zeit“ mit der Kamera eingefangen werden – und das noch vor den offiziellen öffentlichen Besuchszeiten (16.-18. November 2017) in einem entsprechend intimeren Rahmen.
