KRISHNA PURAM PALACE KAYAMKULAM, ALAPPUZHA-DT. KERALA, INDIA. Located 47km from Alappuzha at Krishnapuram in Kayamkulam, on the way to Kollam, the18th century Krishnapuram palace was built during the reign of the Travancore king Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma (1729-1758 AD). The palace situated in an area of 2.55 acres of land, is a double storied structure in typical Kerala style architecture with gabled roof, dorm windows and narrow corridors. An archeological museum is set up in the palace which displays antique sculptures in stone, wood and bronze, coins, copies of paintings and inscriptions. The picture was drawn on the wall of Thevarappura of this palace in such a manner as to workship Lord Vishnu, after taking bath from nearby pond.

The Krishnapuram Palace is a palace and museum located in Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district, Kerala. It was built in the 18th century by Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma (1729–1758 AD), the Travancore kingdom. The Krishnapuram Palace, as one of the finest and rarest examples of a typical Keralite-style architecture, known in the local language as Pathinarukettu, is complete with gabled roofs, narrow corridors, and dormer windows. The main attraction is the Gajendra Moksham 3 meters (9.8 ft) high mural, which is the largest single piece of mural painting so far discovered in Kerala. The Kayamkulam Val (sword) is an important exhibit in the museum. The significance of the sword is that its both sides are sharpened and thus it is more dangerous than any other martial weapon.

It is also famous for a large pond within the palace complex.[1] It is also said that an underground escape route runs from the bottom of the pond as a possible escape route from enemies
Among the many Kerala-style paintings seen in the palace, a distinctly placed mural painting is titled Gajendra Moksham of 154 square feet size, which is said to be the largest such find in Kerala. It is placed on the western end of the ground floor of the palace

The Krishnapuram Palace is a palace and museum that is located in Kayamkulam, at a distance of 47 km from Alappuzha. This magnificent palace was built during the reign of a Travancore King, Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma and is well known for its mural paintings and architecture. The palace is built in the traditional architectural style of Kerala, with a gabled roof, narrow corridors and dormer windows, and is close to the Krishnaswamy Temple at Krishnapuram. The Krishnapuram Palace is currently maintained by the Archaeological Department of Kerala and contains a variety of exhibits that once belonged to the Palace and its former occupant. A major attraction of this place is that it houses is one of the biggest mural paintings that can be found in all of Kerala. Known as the 'Gajendra Moksha', this mural painting covers an area of around 53 square feet and has a rich historical value attached to it. The double-edged sword Kayamkulam Vaal can also be found here.
The palace is situated on the top of a small hill and is surrounded by a terraced garden with fountains, ponds and lawns. Other attractions here include the beautifully landscaped garden in the palace compound that is home to a variety of flora, and a newly erected Buddha Mandapam, which houses a recently recovered statue of Lord Buddha. The Krishnapuram Palace was recently renovated again following the scientific techniques that are prescribed for the protection of heritage buildings and continues to be a rare specimen of the Kerala style of architecture that has survived till date
