The Watermills at Krupa Na Vrbasu to the south of Banja Luka
When guests visit us, we endeavour to expose them to as much of Bosnia and Herzegovina that we can, in the time that our guests have.
Whether that be culture, food or the magnificent countryside.
One of the locations we like to show people is Krupa na Vrbasu (Krupa on the Vrbas), a small town of some 1,200 people, situated about 25km south of Banja Luka in the Bosanska Krajina of the country.
Krupa sits in a valley between canyons of the Vrbas-river, on the main route between Banja Luka and Jajce.
It's not too far, so a place to visit for even the shortest of stop-overs.
The town is known for the Krupa falls, the waterfalls in the town. The crystal clear waters racing down between the traditional watermills are stunning to say the least.
Romantic, even in the snow!
By the waterfalls you can even buy freshly ground wheat, or eat delicious uštipci with domestic kajmak.

The internet is sadly becoming more and more toxic/negative, and when it comes to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the level of extreme racist, ethnic, nationalistic and other purely cruel comments has been really upsetting.
So, if you would like to engage (and we really hope you will/do) then please take the time to use our email address :)
Thanks :)

Krupa Falls
Krupa na Vrbasu (Krupa on the Vrbas) is a small town some 25km south of Banja Luka in the Bosanska Krajina of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH. Krupa lies in a valley between canyons of the Vrbas-river.
The Krupa itself is a small river which joins the Vrbas in the canyon. Krupa spreads itself out along the Krupa, and by the main road Jajce-Banja Luka.
The town is known for the Krupa falls, the waterfalls in the town. Indeed the crystal clear waters racing down between the traditional watermill make a lovely sight. By the waterfalls you can even buy freshly ground wheat, or eat some trout at the trout farms just below.
After the waterfalls you can take a quick tour by the monastery - which is basically a church and a very new building where some priests live - an hike up to 'Greben', the old watchtowers, where you have a very scary and spectacular view over the Vrbas canyon and the town.
Also a hike to the source of the Krupa is not too challenging and always appreciated.
In Krupa, behind the school, towards the Vrbas, is Kamp Krupa, run by the Kanjon rafting club [1] where in the summer is a camp-site.
When you're into rock-climbing, you can also go a few km north down the Vrbas, cross the river at the hanging bridge to climb up the stone bridge ('kameni most'). Definitely worth of visiting.

How to find the amazing Švrakava Waterfalls near Banja Luka | Canyoning in Bosnia Herzegovina
#banjaluka #bosniaandherzegovina #bosnia
Švrakava Waterfalls near Banja Luka.
Canyoning in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We have often driven southbound, along the east bank of the River Vrbas, either on our way to Ljubačke Doline or taking a short cut across the mountains to Sarajevo, via Kneževo.
There is a brown place of interest sign that I have always looked at, pointing left to the Švrakava Waterfalls.
It wasn't until recently, that Tamara said we should go and see it.
That's what we did recently, on a hot Balkan morning.
Using Google Maps didn't give much assistance, although the waterfalls are marked, and, we had to ask people along the way where to go.
The route IS NOT clearly marked at all.
To be honest, the single track road, partly asphalt the remainder gravel, took us through great countryside and remote hamlets.
On arrival at the waterfalls, there is a small wooden rest place, with covered seating and the location seems to be a great place for a remote BBQ.
Despite being really off the beaten track, there were signs linking Švrakava to the Via Dinarica route, something I found very interesting.
The waterfalls are small.
To get up close to the cascade needs a bit of negotiation of the surrounding rocks.
They are a bit slippery with moss etc.
Not too difficult, but for a 66 year old, who is not as sure footed as he used to be, as well as holding a drone remote controller, I decided to play it safe.
Looking back at the visit, I have to be honest and say that the lack of rubbish collection facilities spoilt the atmosphere.
Despite this, I got the impression not many foreigner type tourists visit. It is after all, as I have said before, off the beaten track.
Checking trip advisor, there were only a few reviews, and they were from locals.
YouTube had a single video, posted some 9 years ago!
So. If you are someone that wants off the regular tourist trail, and seeks something unusual and slow a trip to the Švrakava Waterfalls could be for you.

Thanks so much for watching our videos, we really do appreciate it.
Over the past years, some of the comments made on this channel have been extremely unnecessary and racist and abusive.
Not so much towards Tamara or me, but rather against others comments.
It’s not been at all pleasant, so we took the decision to close comments on the channel.
Since starting our 2019 season back in late December, we have thought about trying again to allow comments.
To that end we are allowing comments from now, and that also means the previous videos in this season.
So if you want to comment on some of our more recent videos please go back and do so :)
Here’s to trying to make our world a little bit more tolerant and understanding.
Thanks :)
