Krystyna 'Krys' Pawlowski had no choice but to kill the beast that day in 1955 in Kaumba, in Queensland's Gulf Country - the reptile was creeping up on her three-year-old daughter, Barbara. 'My brother came out and saw it and yelled Barbara, crocodile! and my mother grabbed a rifle and shot it between the eyes,' Krys's son George Pawlowski told Daily Mail Australia. That shot would make the family famous because at 8.6 metres, the reptile was, and still is, the biggest ever killed or captured in Australia. The Polish immigrants, who came to Australia in 1949 and had been struggling to get by, realised they'd struck gold when they took the beast to be skinned. +10 img id=i-d696336f63aa34dd src= height=476 width=634 alt= class=blkBorder img-share / Copy link to paste in your message 'An old-timer in the town helped us skin the crocodile and we sent it off to a dealer in Brisbane and finished off getting 10 pounds for it,' Mr Pawlowski said. 'In those days 13 pounds was the basic weekly wage, so Dad (Ron Pawlowski) thought they were on to something.'Krys would go to find fame as 'One Shot', the petite 5'4'' crocodile hunter who would kill up to 10,000 reptiles over a 15-year hunting career with her husband - all while wearing long red nails. Legend had it the mother-of-three only missed three shots in her lifetime and was able to hit a moving crocodile with ease - despite having never fired a rifle before she arrived in Australia just six years before her famous crocodile kill. She was also able to skin the reptiles faster than anyone else, and she would usually do it right after the kill - on the spot amid the mangroves and mosquitoes. +10 img id=i-72ed972b3bb3b0f2 src= height=898 width=634 alt= class=blkBorder img-share / Copy link to paste in your message Share this article Share 154 shares +10 img id=i-4bcca5b4e0c6ea67 src= height=845 width=634 alt= class=blkBorder img-share / Copy link to paste in your message +10 img id=i-cf7797c1990d3d55 src= height=408 width=306 alt=Ron (pictured) praised his wife for her hunting skills at every opportunity c

7 Largest Crocodiles Ever Recorded
Crocodiles (subfamily Crocodylinae) or true crocodiles are large aquatic reptiles that live throughout the tropics in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia. Although they are big, they suffer from a prevalence of “big fish” stories and over-exaggeration. In the Internet age, photographs of crocodiles manipulated digitally to make the animal look much larger than it is. So, how big the largest crocodiles are actually? Here are the top 7 largest crocodiles ever recorded.
7 : Cassius (5.48 meters/17 feet 11 in)
6 . Utan (5.5 meters/18 feet)
5 : Brutus (5.60 meters/18 feet 4 in)
4: Gustave (~6 meters/19.68 feet)
3: Dominator (6.1 meters/20 feet)
2: Lolong (6.17 meters/20 feet 3 in)
1 : Krys, the “Savannah King
The Trip 7 | Normanton , Sunset Crocodile Tour and Gulflander Rail Journey , QLD
Part 7 of a 12 part series. In 2008 A good friend and I embarked on an epic 4wd journey starting in Adelaide then Travelling up through the center of Australia via the Oodnadatta track, and across to Ayres Rock, Kings Canyon, Devils Marbles and then going right up into the Gulf of Carpentaria then across the tablelands to Cairns before following the east coast of Queensland down into New South Whales before heading inland again and travelling through the outback along the Darling river and then returning to Adelaide. The Adventure took approximately 6 weeks and was a truly awesome experience.

National Geographic Documentary - Monster Crocodile [New Documentary HD 2017]
A crocodile is a large amphibious reptile. It lives mostly in large tropical rivers, where it is an ambush predator. One species, the Australian saltie, also travels in coastal salt water. In very dry climates, crocodiles may aestivate and sleep out the dry season.
Crocodiles live in rivers, lakes and dams in parts of America, Asia, Africa and Australia. Some of the crocodiles from Australia live in salt water. These saltwater crocodiles are normally bigger than the ones that live in fresh water. While crocodiles spend most of their time in water, they can come out and move around on the land. Crocodiles cannot breathe underwater: they breathe air, just like people. They can hold their breath for a maximum of about two hours underwater.

List: Top Biggest Crocodile Ever Caught
05. Puento Noire Crocodile -
This nameless enormous crocodile has been attracting many rumors but in fact, this hostile monster from the Nile was killed near Puento Noire, the Republic of Congo as a result of safety operation. Its estimated size was 5.4 meters or 17 feet and 8 inches.
04. Cassius The Crocodile -
Cassius is a male saltwater crocodile recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest crocodile in captivity. The animal measures 5.48 meters (18 ft 0 in) in length, weighs 2,200 pounds (998 kg) and is estimated to be more than 100 years old.
03. Brutus the Crocodile -
The 5.6-meter crocodile pictured with a bull shark between its jaws a few days ago has made international headlines and become a reptilian celebrity.
But this is not the first time the beast called Brutus, has attracted international attention. Photographs of him lifting his one-tonne frame out of the Adelaide River in the Northern Territory to gnaw at some kangaroo meat during a 'jumping crocodile' tour made headlines in 2011.
The giant crocodile is known on the river tours for his huge size and the fact that he is missing his right foreleg – believed to have been torn off in a fight with a shark.
02. Lolong the Crocodile -
The biggest crocodile in captivity recorded in Guinness Book of World Records was Lolong, measuring 20.25 ft (6.17 m).
Lolong died in captivity at around 8 pm on 10 February 2013, due to multiple organ failure caused by the stress of how he was kept in captivity, not captivity itself.
01. Gustave the Crocodile -
Probably not the biggest ever recorded, but this large man-eater crocodile named “Gustave” is definitely the most feared beast ever. It is a large male Nile crocodile from Burundi, and is rumored to have killed as many as 300 humans from the banks of the Ruzizi River and the northern shores of Lake Tanganyika!

Honorable to mention:
- Papua New Guinea Giant Crocodile
Another seemingly authentic notable New Guinea giant, which drowned after entanglement in a fisherman's net in 1979,
A huge male saltwater croc had gotten his teeth tangled in the hand-made rope net and drowned. It took 50 men to haul the giant croc out onto the bank and when they cut it open there was a whole rusa deer in the stomach. The skin had been salted and rolled up. The total length was 6.20 meters or a little over 20 feet long! with a skull length of 72 cm (28 in). Since it was already a bit dry it might have been a few inches longer.
- India's Giant Crocodile
A big croc, killed in 1926 on the Dhamra River, India was said to have been 23 feet long, close to seven meters. The huge skull is the only remaining evidence and at 78 cm from nose tip to back of occiput appears to be the largest saltwater croc skull in India and one of the top three in the world.
- Philippines' Giant Crocodile
In 1823, a huge saltwater crocodile was killed near the town of Jalajala in Laguna de Bay. It measured 27 feet (8.2 m) from the tip of its snout to the end of its tail.
Approximately weighing 2 tonnes, this giant croc was said to be as heavy as a bull hippo. Too big was its size that it actually required the help of 40 men to bring its body ashore. Upon dissecting, people were shocked to discover the body of a horse cut in 7 pieces.

Normanton to Karumba Road Trip - Gulf of Carpenteria
Good news and bad. The Bad? Audio quality is terrible (I am new to the GoPro and keep forgetting to face the camera). The Good? Nobody watches anyway. Audio quality aside, this video shows some of our time in Normanton, checking out the railway station and Gulflander train, Krys the Big Croc, and of course the Purple Pub - something Normanton is quite famous for. Then we travel 70 odd kilometres to Karumba to see the waters of the Gulf of Carpenteria. We were told that, 2K up the road, large crocs are easily seen sunbathing on the beach. Unfortunately though, you needed a 4X4 to travel those two kilometres. Needing the Wang to get us home, we decided it would have to wait for a future visit - next time in a four wheel drive. Remote, beautiful and quintessentially tranquil - we are so glad we got to see this part of Australia.

Guide To The Gulf - Episode 25 - Normanton
Normanton is the Gulf Savannah’s largest service centre, located on the banks of the Norman River. You’ll find a wide range of accommodation here, from camping to pubs, motels and self-contained units.
Normanton has scheduled air services to Cairns and the towns of the Gulf Savannah, and local hire cars, so you can even fly in for a few days of fishing and local exploration.
In its heyday Normanton was the port for Croydon’s gold rush and it is the terminus for the historic Normanton to Croydon Railway. Don’t miss a ride on the old “Tin Hare” as it’s known, or its little brother the RM60 railmotor, and visit the heritage listed railway station.
The historic Burns Philip Building houses the Visitor Information Centre and library. Pick up a brochure on the town walk and discover the Normanton’ s history including some classic pubs and Krys the croc, a life-sized replica of the largest lizard ever shot in the region.
