KUALA GANDAH ELEPHANT SANCTUARY - Malaysia
The Kuala Gandah Elephant Conservation Centre is an elephant sanctuary located in Temerloh in the state of Pahang, Malaysia within the Krau Game Reserve.
The Centre was established in 1989 by the Malaysian Department of Wildlife and National Parks, and forms a base for the Elephant Relocation Team, which since 1974 has been rescuing problem Asian elephants whose habitats are being lost to cultivation or development and relocating them to suitable habitats such as Taman Negara. The Centre also aims to raise public awareness and support research, and has increasingly become a popular tourist attraction since its existence began to be publicised in 1997.
Visitors to the Centre are shown a video, then watch the elephants being washed and fed. This used to be followed by riding on an elephant but now, visitors are being given the chance to go into the river with two younger elephants. Daily visitor admissions are subject to strict quotas and advance booking is strongly recommended.
Thanks for watching!

Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, Pahang, Malaysia
The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) established Kuala Gandah Elephant Conservation Centre in 1989. The centre is the base for the Elephant Relocation Team, which began the Elephant translocation programme in 1974. The only one of its kind in Malaysia, the team is dedicated to locating, subduing and translocating elephant from areas where their habitats throughout the Peninsular such as Taman Negara. Over the years our team has help to prevent the further decline of the elephant population by relocating more than 600 wild elephants.
Beside being the base for the translocation team and home for a number of residents and orphaned elephants, Kuala Gandah also aims to promote public awareness of the elephant's plight in Malaysia and to support research into elephants translocation and conservation. Visitors are welcomed throughout the year to ride the elephants within the centre, help wash them in the nearby river and participate in feeding them. The centre also strive to educate the public about the importance of habitat and environmental preservation. Visitors are encouraged to view a video on elephant translocation.
This tour includes elephant hand feeding, ride, swimming and bathing the elephants in the river.
Currently we have two packages:
1. Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary / Deerland & Batu Caves

Day Trip to Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, Pahang, Malaysia
Our first trip to the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary at Lanchang, Pahang. It was a 90 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur.
Want to know the details of our trip, please go to our blog:
The entrance is free and you can (optional) donate any amount to the foundation. There are currently 7 elephants in the park, all were being rescued in the wild from all over Malaysia.
We got to go up close to the elephants to feed them. We also saw how the elephant caretaker bathe the elephants in the river. We wanted to have the chance to bathe together with the elephants in the river (with a small fee) but we were late - They only allow 100pax a day.
Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary [Malaysia] | IS IT WORTH VISITING?
One of the main reasons we visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was to experience the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary. It was important to us to find a place that treated the elephants well and didn't allow tourists to ride them.
We walked to the metro station from our hostel, took the train to a bus stop, then a bus to a small town where a driver picked us up and took us to the elephant sanctuary.
We fed the elephants, taking a tour of the grounds while learning the names and facts about each elephant. Entrance was free, but we paid to bathe the elephants, so we headed down to the river to swim with and clean the baby elephants!
Overall I definitely recommend the experience. It's a great way to interact with elephants as a tourist while trying to maintain a level of respect and care toward the creatures.
We then headed back to Kuala Lumpur and ended the day eating sushi at the Pavilion mall.
Stay tuned for the upcoming Malaysia episodes featuring the Batu Caves and KL Aquarium!

Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, Malaysia (GoPro5) HD

Elephant Sanctuary at Kuala Gandah in Malaysia
I went to the Kuala Gandah Elephant sanctuary in Malaysia. I learned a lot about elephants, the struggles they go through, and what the sanctuary is doing to help them. If you have the time while on your holiday in Kuala Lumpur you should do a day trip out to the sanctuary.
