Hawaii Driving | HI-61 Pali Hwy | Honolulu, Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii, USA
Aloha!~
I drove to HI-61 Pali Hwy.
Hawaii Route 61, often called the Pali Highway, is in Honolulu County, Hawaii, United States, that is the main highway connecting downtown Honolulu with the windward side of Oʻahu island.
Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout
The Pali Lookout is currently closed indefinitely due to rock slide damage to the Pali Highway in February 2019. Recently the Hawaii DOT has reopened both sides of the Pali Highway, but the Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout will still remain closed
Pali Highway Closure
Multiple landslides occurred in two separate areas. One location is in the Kailua bound direction after the second tunnel. The second location is in between the two tunnels and impacted the Honolulu bound direction. The Old Pali Road was also damaged in the landslide sending pieces of concrete down with the slide.
Although it was partially open, it hadn't been open for nearly six months.

Places to see in ( Oahu - USA ) Kaneohe Bay
Places to see in ( Oahu - USA ) Kaneohe Bay
Kāneʻohe Bay, at 45 km², is the largest sheltered body of water in the main Hawaiian Islands. This reef-dominated embayment constitutes a significant scenic and recreational feature along the southeast coast of the Island of Oʻahu. The largest population center on Kāneʻohe Bay is the town of Kāneʻohe.
The Bay is approximately 8 mi (12.8 km) long and 2.7 mi (4.3 km) broad, with a mouth opening of about 4.6 mi (7.4 km) and maximum depth of 40 ft (12 m) in the dredged channel. It has one of the two barrier reefs in the archipelago, the other being the 27 mile barrier reef of Molokaʻi island, and also has extensive development of shoaling coral reefs within a large lagoon. Two navigable channels cut across the northern and southern ends of the barrier reef. The deeper, northern channel, located off Kualoa Regional Park, provides entrance from the North Pacific Ocean to a ship channel dredged the length of the lagoon between 1939 and 1945. The lagoon contains extensive patch and fringing reefs and its southern end is partly enclosed by the Mokapu Peninsula. This peninsula is occupied by Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Koʻolau Mountain Range seen on a clear morning from Kaneʻohe Bay on a boat
There are five named islands or islets within Kāneʻohe Bay. A sand bar (Ahu o Laka), Kapapa, and Kekepa (Turtleback Rock) are all islets on the barrier reef. Two islands within Kāneʻohe Bay are prominent: Mokoliʻi (Chinaman's Hat) and Moku o Loʻe (Coconut Island), the largest of the five. Mokoliʻi is a volcanic remnant at the very north end of the Bay, site of former Kualoa Airfield. The community on the northern side is called Waikane, or North Koʻolaupoko.
Coconut Island is an isolated volcanic remnant located in the southwest part of the bay. Coconut Island is owned by the state of Hawaiʻi and home to the University of Hawaiʻi, and Pauley-Pagen Laboratory (SOEST). Coconut Island was used for the opening sequence of the television program Gilligan's Island. In August 2010, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was filmed on the bay. Geologically, Kāneʻohe Bay forms part of a former caldera of the Koʻolau volcano. In prehistory, most of the volcano catalysmically slid into the Pacific Ocean, leaving behind only the Range and the Bay.

Hawaii Tour | Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout | Pali Hwy, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, USA
Aloha!~
Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout
Historical landmark and scenic spot with panoramic views.
$3 Per Vehicle (Non-Resident)
Free for Kama'aina(Hawaii Resident)
The Nu'uanu Pali Lookout is one of the most stunning views of Oahu's Ko'olau Mountain Range.
Located just a short 5-mile drive from downtown Honolulu, this lookout offers some of the best views on Oahu. From here you can spot Kailua town as well as Kaneohe Bay and, of course, the breathtaking Ko'olau Mountains. One word of warning, however: The wind will literally knock you off your feet at this spot if you're not prepared, so take off your hats and hold on to the kids! Aside from its obvious beauty, this spot is the site of one of King Kamehameha's most gruesome victories.

Hawaii Historical Sites | Aloha Tower | Honolulu. Oahu, Hawaii, USA
Aloha!~
ALOHA TOWER
Located on the Honolulu Harbor in Downtown Honolulu, about 15 minutes west of Waikiki, Aloha Tower is an iconic symbol of Hawai‘i. Aloha Tower is the most recognized building in the state of Hawai‘i, second only to Diamond Head as its most famous landmark.
Built in September of 1926, Aloha Tower was the tallest building in the islands for four decades, offering spectacular views of the harbor and housing an observatory and lookout station for harbor pilots. Its lighthouse served as a navigation landmark that could be seen from 15 miles at sea, while its clock was one of the largest in the United States. The tower stood as a welcoming beacon for visitors when travel to O‘ahu was done entirely by sea, serving as Honolulu’s “Statue of Liberty.” Duke Kahanamoku even set his first swimming world record at Pier 7, and the wharf was also known for Boat Days, a lively celebration to welcome the arrival of visiting ships.
For a period of time during World War II, the U.S. military took control of the tower, painting it in brown and green camouflage and shutting off its beacon to minimize detection. Patrols by Army sentries didn’t end until the camouflage was sandblasted off in 1947; the Aloha Tower reopened in 1948 in its original glory as one solid color.

Kualoa Beach - Oahu
Crystal Water
Places to see in ( Oahu - USA )
Places to see in ( Oahu - USA )
Oahu is a U.S. island in the Central Pacific, part of the Hawaiian island chain and home to the state capital, Honolulu. Highlights of the city include historic Chinatown and the Punchbowl, a crater-turned-cemetery. Waikiki is an iconic beach, dining and nightlife area. West of Honolulu is Pearl Harbor, site of the WWII's 1941 bombing attack and home to the USS Arizona Memorial. Known as “The Gathering Place,” Oahu is home to the largest population of people as well as the best nightlife in Hawaii. The Honolulu craft beer and food scene here is dynamic and always changing. For a taste of the local culture, check out the neighborhoods of Kakaako, Kaimuki, Kapahulu and Chinatown. Waikiki and Ala Moana Center are world-class shopping destinations, while boutiques in beach towns like Kailua captivate with their own charms.
From ancient stone heiau (temples) to 21st-Century high-rises, Oahu is an island of endless contrasts. Geographically only the third largest of the inhabited Hawaiian Islands, it is nonetheless home to nearly three-quarters of the state’s 1.2 million residents — 370,000 of whom are concentrated in urban Honolulu, the ultra-modern, south-coast cityscape kamaʻaina (residents) refer to simply as Town. Like the other islands, islets and shoals that make up the 1,600-mile Hawaiian Island chain, Oahu is believed to be the product of a single “hot spot” in the earth’s mantle. Over the course of millions of years, the earth’s crust drifted to the northwest across this hot spot, giving rise to each island. The bulk of Oahu was created nearly four million years ago, by two now-extinct shield volcanoes — the remains of which are today visible as the Koʻolau and Waiʻanae mountain ranges, running parallel to each other along the length of the island’s eastern and western coasts, respectively. As with the rest of the Hawaiian Islands, these mountain ranges separate the wetter windward shore from the drier leeward side, forcing rain clouds blown in off the ocean to leave their water on the east side of the island before gaining passage to the west.
More recent volcanic activity also created several of Oahu’s most visible landmarks: 761-foot-tall Diamond Head, located on Waikiki’s eastern border, is a “tuff cone,” formed some 100,000 years ago when an eruption of volcanic ash eventually hardened into solid rock. Southeast Oahu’s Koko Head and downtown Honolulu’s Punchbowl (the latter of which houses the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in its crater) are also tuff cones.
Vastly influenced by its reputation as a world-class travel destination, Oahu offers more of everything than the other Islands combined. Shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities here far eclipse those of neighbor islands. And visitor traffic, drawn to the island by its enticing beaches, big winter waves, super-sized collection of scenic golf courses and signature attractions — Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, the Polynesian Cultural Center — continues to exceed any neighbor island.
Still, Oahu’s storied past is very much alive. Hawaii achieved statehood less than 50 years ago, leaving its history as a U.S. territory and before that, a Hawaiian monarchy, very much in evidence. Walking tours of downtown Honolulu, Waikiki or Chinatown, as well as a visit to Pearl Harbor, are a good way to get in touch with the island’s unique past.
Many of Oahu’s most popular attractions are located outside the city. Hanauma Bay, a world-renown snorkeling destination, is a short drive from Waikiki, just past Hawaii Kai. Sea Life Park is not far from Hanauma Bay. The Polynesian Cultural Center, a unique and perennially popular attraction, is located in Laʻie, more than an hour’s drive from Honolulu. Kualoa Ranch, near Kaneohe, Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, near Kapolei, and the Arizona Memorial, the biggest visitor draw in the state, are all outside the city of Honolulu.
Tour operators provide transportation to and from Waikiki, making it easy to see the countryside on your way to adventures like helicopter and glider tours, ultra light and skydiving experiences, kayaking tours, shark excursions, ATV and horseback rides. If you want to take a drive, Haleʻiwa is a good bet. A surfers’ mecca, it has retained the character of its more than 100-year history.

FLIGHT PATH/ LOCATIONS: Viewers begin in Honolulu along Waikiki Beach, with impressive views of Diamond Head in the distance. From here, the journey slowly progresses along the southeastern coast to the next stop, which is a view of Koko Crater along the coast near the Kahauloa Cove. From here viewers can enjoy the rocky black lava coast as it transforms into a perfect white Sandy Beach. Experience a top-down view of the Hãlona Cove before next flying to Makapu'u Point, which is the next stop on this scenic aerial journey. At Makapu'u, you'll dip your toes in the beach and quickly glance north before flying right up to the famous Makapu'u lighthouse. After enjoying a stunning view from on high of Koko Head and the coast looking south, we again turn north up the coast and next are transported to Kualoa Point, to absorb the stunning palm tree views and distant vistas of Mokoli'li Island and the far off Kaneohe Bay. Next we will attempt to reach the top of the towering green mountain behind Kualoa Ranch, and absorb the stunning perspective of the island of Oahu as seen from this beautiful shore. From Kualoa, we next are transported to the famous Mãhie Point at Huilua Pond, home of the Crouching Lion Hike which offers one of the best views anywhere on Oahu. From this perspective viewers can enjoy views in all directions, from the town of Kaawa to the south to Ahupua'a O'Kahana State Park & Kahana Bay / Makali'l Point to the North. Next on our journey we are transported to the rugged blue waters of the North Shore at Turtle Bay. This iconic resort offers panoramic views from all sides, including Kulima Cove & Point to the East & South and Kawela Bay Beach Park to the North. After departing Turtle Bay, viewers are then transported to the first of two stops on the iconic North Shore - first at Sunset Beach near Rocky Point and the Banzai Pipeline; and then to Ke Iki Beach / Rock Piles Beach near Shark's Cove, which offers majestically blue and empty white sandy beaches as far as the eye can see. From the North Shore beaches, we start the journey back to reach Honolulu at Sunset, stopping at one last lookout near the North Shore town of Hale'iwa for a glance at the view looking inland of distant Wind Farms and Northwestern coast of Oahu, and finally at a vibrant lookout of Ka'Alaea Point at Uppers Beach Park. The film ends with a slowly fading yet majestic sunset from Waikiki Beach.
