7. Map of Germany showing military prisons
8. SOUNDBITE: (German) Ludwig Baumann, Wehrmacht deserter:
Yes, the few of us who survived hoped that our actions would be recognised after the war. But we were only continuously insulted as cowards, pigs and traitors and were threatened. Even my father, because I confessed to it. My father died of grief, I got addicted to alcohol and drank his entire possessions away, with several others who were also broken.
9. Cutaway of Baumann at exhibition
10. SOUNDBITE: (German) Ludwig Baumann, Wehrmacht deserter:
The deserters were rehabilitated, but this here it's about others - my friends - war traitors. I was there when they were shot in Torgau, these are my comrades. It's not only about me, it's a struggle for history.
11. Wide of woman looking at exhibition
12. Mid exterior of historian Dr Baumann (no first name given), walking inside church
13. SOUNDBITE: (German) Dr. Baumann, historian:
In World War II, one can say that most of the war traitors actually acted for political reasons, or in a way that there were political consequences.

14. Pan across entrance of parliament building
15. Mid of Norbert Geis of the Bavarian Christian-Social Party (CSU) sitting at desk
16. SOUNDBITE: (German) Norbert Geis, Christian-Social Party Member of Parliament (MP):
The point is about the others, the ones who left their comrades out of pure opportunism and went across to the enemy lines and then betrayed their comrades, so that the enemy could open fire at the former comrades who then lost their lives. Such defectors cannot be treated in the same way as Graf Stauffenberg, for instance.
17. Wide of courtyard at German Resistance Memorial Centre
18. Close-up of memorial plate
19. SOUNDBITE (German) Johannes Tuchel, Director of the German Resistance Memorial Centre:
Sixty or even seventy years later, we should not still be believing the Nazis - insofar as one can only greet the new initiative (as a way) to nullify the last verdicts for war treason.
20. Pan over Stauffenberg room in permanent exhibition at German Resistance Memorial Centre
STORYLINE:
As Germany marks the anniversary of the plot on July 20, 1944 to assassinate Hitler and honours the conspirators in Berlin, a small group of soldiers convicted by the Nazi justice for treason continue their wait for exoneration.
German parliament pardoned the Wehrmacht deserters in 2002, but the act excluded Kriegsverrat ('Treason at war') together with such crimes as corpse looting and soldier mistreatment.
Most of the convicted war traitors acted politically, or in a way that there were political consequences said Dr Baumann, curator of the exhibition on victims of the Nazi justice in Berlin.
Some of the convictions for treason were passed for such deeds as leaflet distribution or helping prisoners of war.
The handful of men were among 30-thousand who were sentenced to death by Nazi military courts.
Over 20-thousand men were actually executed.
This is about my friends, I was there when they were shot 86-year old Wehrmacht deserter Ludwig Baumann told AP Television.
Baumann deserted the Wehrmacht in 1942 in France but was caught at the border and sentenced to death.
After months in the death cell he was pardoned and transferred to a concentration camp.

LEAD IN :
A pre-soviet tradition is being revived in Russia as Cossack horsemanship took centre stage at a recent military festival.
Skilled riders wowed the audience with the display of tricky manoeuvres and the teamwork between man and beast.
STORYLINE :
Russian soldiers, policemen and enthusiasts gathered to resurrect the Cossack traditions of skilled swordplay and horsemanship.
The riders showed off their skills of horsemanship and agility as swept past their audience, rarely missing a target.
The Equine Military Festival of Dzhigitovka, an ancient style of performance riding was the first event of its kind to be held in post-Soviet Russia.
Horsemen from a number of military regiments slashed their way through plastic water bottles, cabbages and other targets in their attempts to impress the judges.
Dzhigitovka, which is the ancient style of performance riding, originated in the Caucasus and Central Asia amongst the Cossacks, and was prevalent and very popular among Russia's pre-Revolutionary cavalrymen.
Participants, many of whom are serving soldiers from elite cavalry regiments, such as the Presidential Guard, competed for prizes in a variety of disciplines.
The Cossacks were formidable horsemen and soldiers who lived in Eastern Europe and Asiatic Russia.
After being absorbed into the Russian Empire they became a pillar of the Imperial Army.
In the hope of gaining greater independence, many Cossacks sided with anti Bolshevik forces during the Russian Civil War, and were as a consequence virtually destroyed by the Communist state.
But in the current post-soviet era, many people are looking to the past and reviving old traditions.
Enthusiasts say the expansion of this sport is a good way to encourage young people to take up more physical pursuits.
The revival of Cossack heritage and appreciation of their military skills is met with enthusiasm by Cossacks themselves and those in Russia who want to see a return to pre-soviet values.

SUMMARY
=======
The Circassians (Russian: Черкесы Čerkesy), also known by their endonym Adyghe (Circassian: Адыгэхэр Adygekher, Russian: Ады́ги Adýgi), are a Northwest Caucasian nation native to Circassia, many of whom were displaced in the course of the Russian conquest of the Caucasus in the 19th century, especially after the Russo-Circassian War in 1864. In its narrowest sense, the term Circassian includes the twelve Adyghe (Circassian: Адыгэ, Adyge) princedoms (three democratic and nine aristocratic); Abdzakh, Besleney, Bzhedug, Hatuqwai, Kabardian, Mamkhegh, Natukhai, Shapsug, Temirgoy, Ubykh, Yegeruqwai and Zhaney, each star on the Circassian flag representing each princedom. However, due to Soviet administrative divisions, Circassians were also designated as the following: Adygeans (Adyghe in Adygea), Cherkessians (Adyghe in Karachay-Cherkessia), Kabardians (Adyghe in Kabardino-Balkaria) and Shapsugians (Adyghe in Krasnodar Krai), although all the four are essentially the same people residing in different political units.
Most Circassians are Sunni Muslim. The Circassians mainly speak the Circassian languages, a Northwest Caucasian dialect continuum with three main dialects and numerous sub-dialects. Many Circassians also speak Turkish, Russian, English, Arabic and Hebrew, having been exiled by Russia to lands of the Ottoman Empire, where the majority of them today live. About 800,000 Circassians remain in historical Circassia (the modern-day titular Circassian republics of Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia as well as Krasnodar Krai and the southwestern parts of Stavropol Krai and Rostov Oblast), and others live in the Russian Federation outside these republics and krais. The 2010 Russian Census recorded 718,727 Circassians, of whom 516,826 are Kabardian, 124,835 are other Adyghe in Adygea, 73,184 are Cherkess and 3,882 Shapsug. The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization estimated in the early 1990s that there are as many as 3.7 million ethnic Circassian diaspora (in over 50 countries) outside the titular Circassian republics (meaning that only one in seven ethnic Circassians live in the homeland), and that, of these 3.7 million, more than 2 million live in Turkey, 300,000 in the Levant (mostly modern-day Jordan and Syria) and Mesopotamia and 50,000 in Western Europe and the United States.
