[Travel] Day trip to a sacred island, Kudaka Jima, Okinawa
An island named as Kudaka Jima is located near Okinawa. This island is believed as the origin of Okinawa islands. I'm not sure I could understand her totally, but as I understood, this island was forbidden to men to enter before. and recently the island was opened to travelers. Even now they have some places forbidden to go inside-some places to pray, and beaches.
We visited there with a guide from Airbnb trip. We could ride bike whole island and could snorkel on the beach near small port. The host was super kind and worth to visit together.

Our second day on the beautiful Kudaka Island, just off the coast of Okinawa, Japan. In this fun filled episode, Madoka and I ride our bikes on Lover's Road, and put our taste buds to the test with the local Sea Snake Soup, as well as enjoy some delicious desert we discovered at the bicycle shop.

Okinawa main island (Okinawa Honto)
We were traveling around Japan for 5 weeks already and it was just hours before we had to return to winter in Europe. This coast was the last place we visited - Kayo beach on the main Okinawa island.

It is here that the island's important ceremonies such as the Izaiho are performed.
The Sun, Moon, Palace of the Dragon King, as well as other gods are enshrined within. A relaxing atmosphere pervades the area.

Upuratou is located on Kudakajima.
It is said that Shoutoku of the Ryukyu kingdom fell in love with the beautiful woman that lived in this house.
However, when King Shoutoku was on Kudakajima, a revolution was startedwithin Shuri Castle, and as a result King Shoutoku lost the throne.

Chinen Misaki Park is located at the tip of Cape Chinen in Nanjo City.
From this park you can see Kudakajima Island, often called the island of the gods. In the morning the park serves as a perfect spot to see the sunrise, and at night it becomes a great location to see the star-filled sky. This park is known by the locals as a great relaxation spot.

【行ってみた】沖縄…in神の島
６月某日に沖縄県の久高島【神の島】に
行った時を旅の記録としてまとめてみました。
曇天続きでしたが、行った時は晴れ間も出て
海の綺麗な感じも撮れて良かったです！
先ずは那覇市内から安座真港まで
車で約40分前後ほど走り、そこからフェリーに乗り
船に揺られることおよそ25分で、目的地の【神の島】に
辿りつけます。

In Okinawa, there are many sacred places, “Utaki”, where rituals are held for gods and ancestors. One of them is the world heritage “Sefa Utaki” (Holiest Sites on Okinawa) in Nanjo City. What kind of place is the sacred place “Sefa Utaki” that is worshiped by many people today?
“Sefa Utaki” is located in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture, about 45 minutes by car from Naha Airport. In 2000, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site as “Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu”. It is the highest holy place in the Ryukyu Kingdom that is said to have been created by the Amamikiyo god of the Ryukyu Kingdom.

The ruins of Tamagusuku in the Tamagusuku district.
Tamagusuku is said to have been built by the creator of the Ryukyus, AMAMIKIYO.
It is located on a hill overlooking Kudaka Island and the south-central area of Okinawa's main island.
The castle originally consisted of three levels. However, after the war, most of the castle was taken away by the American army to be used as building materials and so very little remains of the original shape.
In 1987, the ruins of Tamagusuku were designated as a national historic site.

Kudaka Usudeku is an event performed on Kudakajima.
Women of the island dress in white and sing and dance together to the beat of taiko drums and other instruments.
This is an important event for Kudakajima, which is referred to as the island of the gods.
The event welcomes the gods in prayer and expresses the joy of being able to play with the gods as they visit.

琉球王国最高の聖地「斎場御嶽（世界文化遺産) セーファうたき」沖縄県 南城市 日本
沖縄県南城市にある世界遺産「斎場御嶽」は、沖縄本島で最も格の高い神聖なる御嶽。尚真王の時代から代々女性司祭であるノロによって守られ、琉球の聖地は５００年を越え受け継がれましたそうです。霊域内の古代から残された祭場は存在感があり、中でも巨大な岩の三庫理は必見のです。琉球創世の女神「アマミキヨ」が作ったとされるこの地は、沖縄一のパワースポットとしても知られています。
斎場御嶽は、琉球王国最高にして最大の聖地といえる国の安寧や厄災を鎮めたりする「国家スケールの祈りの場」です。
斎場御嶽は琉球王国が誕生するよりもっと前、紀元前から続くパワースポットといえ、2000年前に使われた祭事の道具などが土の中から見つかっています。
斎場御嶽には、琉球王国の手によって祈りの力を呪術的に強める仕掛けが施されていたようです。
神域の発掘調査で見つかった勾玉や青磁器などがその痕跡に当たるといいます。
沖縄では出土しない鉱物「金」を含む呪具も含まれており、ミステリアスな琉球信仰を知る手掛かりとして、とても貴重な資料になるそうです。
一方、斎場御嶽は、女性の最高神官「聞得大君」（きこえおおきみ）が神霊を授かるための儀式を執り行った場所でもあります。そうした位置づけから、「個人の悩みを解消するために拝むところではない」と指摘する人も少なくありません。
ただ、いまも国王や聞得大君による宗教的儀式に習った「東御廻り」（あがりうまーい）の参拝地として、その信仰は続いています。
男子禁制のしきたりに習って、斎場御嶽の入口「御門口」（うじょうぐち）での参拝にとどめ、中に入らずに帰る人もいるようです。
斎場御嶽は、太陽の昇る方角にある神の島「久高島」と並ぶ二大聖地です。
琉球国王は隔年で、それぞれの聖地に必ず参詣していたそうです。
国家的祭事には、久高島から持ち込んだ白砂を斎場御嶽に敷き詰めたそうです。
国家鎮護の拠点にもなったそんな斎場御嶽の見どころは、何といっても６つのイビ（神域）。
当時、国王ですら立ち入りが制限されたとても神聖な場所です。
６つのイビ（神域）
①御門口（うじょうぐち）
斎場御嶽の中に入る参道の入口です。ここには６つの香炉が並べられていて、それぞれ御嶽内の拝所の分身に当たります。向かって右手からは、海の彼方に神の島「久高島」を望むことができます。
②大庫理（うふぐーい）
最高神官・聞得大君（きこえおおきみ)に選ばれた王族の女性が神霊を授かる儀式を執り行った場所です。聞得大君とは、「もっとも名高い神女」という意味で、王国全土を霊的に守護する役割を担いました。1470年から1875年までの約400年間、15代にわたって聞得大君が琉球王府の神事を取り仕切ったと伝わります。
③寄満（ゆいんち）
王府用語で「台所」を意味するパワースポットです。
詳しい方なら、台所というキーワードから沖縄の民間信仰に定着するかまどの神様「火の神」（ひぬかん）を連想されるかもしれません。
ただ寄満の意味は、世界中から交易品の集まる「豊穣に満ちた台所」からきているそうです。
航海安全などを祈る拝所として今もその信仰は息づいています。
④三庫理（さんぐーい）⑤チョウノハナ
三角形の岩間を抜けた突き当りのポイントが「三庫理」（さんぐーい）で、その右手が「チョウノハナ」と呼ばれる拝所です。斎場御嶽の心臓部、もっとも神聖な場所とされるパワースポットといえます。このポイントで見つかった「鎮（しず）め物」こそが、先ほど紹介した祈りの力を増幅させるための呪術的な仕掛けです。
ここで拝みをしている方を見かけることがあるかと思いますが、話しかけたり、写真を撮ったりするのはNGです。
⑥シキヨダユルアマガヌビー」と「アマダユルアシカヌビー」の壺。
天井の鍾乳石からしたたり落ちる「聖なる水」を受けるために置かれたもの。
聞得大君が五穀豊穣を占った壺とされ、満水だと「吉」と判定するのだとか。

The world heritage “Saiba Gyoen” in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture, is the most sacred sacred gyoen on the main island of Okinawa. The sacred place of Ryukyu has been inherited for more than 500 years since it was protected by Noro, a female priest from generation to generation. The ancient sanctuary in the sanctuary has a strong presence, especially the huge rock formation of Sanko Osamu. It is said that the jade and celadon found in excavations in the sanctuary are the traces.
It also contains a curse that contains the mineral “gold” that is not excavated in Okinawa, and it seems to be a very valuable document as a clue to know the mysterious Ryukyu faith.
On the other hand, Sejo Gyoen is also the place where the female priest “Otomi Daikoku” (Okimi Kikoe) performed a ritual to give the spirit. Many people point out that “it is not a place to worship in order to resolve individual concerns” from such a position.
However, the faith continues as a place of worship for the “East Go-around” that was learned from the religious rituals of the king and Daimon.
Some people learn about the prohibition of boys and go to the entrance of Sejo Gyoen “Omonguchi” and go home without going inside.
Sejo Gyoen is a great sacred place alongside the island of God “Kudakajima” in the direction of the rising sun.
It is said that the Ryukyu kings always visited every sacred place every other year.
For national festivals, white sand brought in from Kudakajima was spread over Sejo Gyoen.
The highlights of the Sejo Gyoen, which became the base of national protection, are six ibis (gods).
At that time, even the king was a very sacred place where access was restricted.

Nirai Bridge/Kanai Bridge ks027.mov
Nirai Bridge/Kanai Bridge is a large bridge in the southern portion of Okinawa's main island. It can be found from the Yoshitomi intersection on Route 331 in Chinen, Nanjo City as the road turns towards the mountains.
From the top of the bridge, which has 80 m of height from its highest point to its lowest, you can see the vast cobalt blue ocean, as well as islands such as Kudakajima and Kumakajima, making it some of the most beautiful scenery Okinawa has to offer.
