Beach Hut, Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka
LK15066100
Though it is world famous, the most significant thing is the absent of star class hotel in the area. Out of popular surfing joints, Ranga's Beach Hut stands tall among the visitors to the area. Ranga's Beach Hut started its operation in 1989 with just a restaurant and two Cabanas. After all these years of terrorists threats and 2004 tsunami, the Hut developed into a popular seafood place and now with 7 Cabanas and six standard rooms. The resort is now in full operations and a massive refurbishment is under way to cater to the influx of tourists to Arugam Bay, after the liberation of East. 'I am certain that the golden beaches of Arugam Bay will soon be another 'Hikkaduwa' and the arrivals have gone up since last few months' said Ranga Krishnarajan, the proprietor with much hope. The service at Ranga's Beach Hut is homely. The food delicious, offering the catch of the day straight from the Bay beach, fish, jumbo prawns, king crabs, cuttlefish and lobsters are the name of the day. It makes up the mouth watering menu in addition to the usual Western and Eastern cuisine. Guests are also offered pure curd made of fresh milk available in plenty and fresh fruits at Arugam Bay. Ranga's Beach Hut offers a host of tourist attractions. It lies midway between two popular National Parks, Lahugala National Park and Kumana Bird Sanctuary, which is the eastern border of Yala National Park. Lahugala is only13 k.m. and Kumana Bird Sanctuary is only 30 km from Ranga's Beach Hut. A host of heritage sites and ruins dating back to the 5th century are in close proximity to the resort. They are traditional Panama village, Magul Maha Viharaya Mudu Maha Viharaya and Kudumbi Gala Hermitage, the Oakande Rock and Hindu temple, which is said to be the spot where Sindbad the Sailor ended up after a ship wreck.

Arugam Bay, There and Dragged Back Again
Getting to Arugam Bay from Colombo and coming back, most reluctantly. There is a lot to do besides chill on the beach and a definite area to check out is Kudumbigala. A forest monastery complex that was previously closed off to visitors during the war.
We mostly took public transport and chatted with the locals and made enemies with en elephant, the mood was generally upbeat due to the war being over. Concerns were high due to the drought and a lot of people were relying on government development projects for work.
The East coast is still wild and untamed by the vicious whip of commercial tourism. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Bowaththa Hela Rock Cave Monastery, Kumana National Park (2016)
The villages of Kumana and Panama, once part of a ancient flourishing civilization, today is a think jungle teeming with wildlife. The evidence of this civilization still remains in form of ruins of massive monastic complexes such as Bowaththagala Monastery, Kudumbigala Monastery and Bambaragasthalawa Naga Pabbatha Monastery, dams, canals and irrigation reservoirs belonging to the pre-Christian era scattered all over the jungles in and around Kumana.
Bowaththagala, a rock strewn mountain in the midst of Kumana National Park, had been first fashioned a monastery in the third-second century BC by the ten noble brothers of Kataragama, known in Sri Lankan history as the ‘Kataragama-Kshathriya’.
Bowattegala hills consists of many caves mostly with drip ledges and Brahmi inscriptions indicating that this has been a vast monastery in the ancient times. Remains of brick walls on some caves indicate that these caves have been converted in to shrine rooms and living quarters for the meditating monks. The fact that the Brahmi inscriptions belong to the pre-Christian era and the bricks belong to a later age prove that Bowaththagala Monastery has survived for thousands of years before falling in to despair.
Special Note for the Viewers:
I’ve done this video to make other human beings aware of the beauty of this place and please don’t misuse this information in order to ruin this place. I’ve spent so much of time/money bringing this to you so that you may enjoy it. However I’ve a very kind and humble request from you all.
Should you ever visit this place, you’re kindly requested to adhere to the following in order to save our Mother Nature (essentially Our Country) not only for the future generations but for the current one as well:
* Avoid careless/reckless/irresponsible/money-oriented/mega tour groups or organizers.
* Travel in smaller groups as Mother Nature can’t afford so many footprints at once.
* Minimize the use of polythene/plastic and do bring back if you have to take any with you.
* Don’t litter and even if it’ bio-degradable, please bring it back and dispose of the garbage properly and responsibly. Because no matter what it is, it will still be alien to that environment.
* Use reusable water bottles so that you don’t have to keep buying plastic ones. It’ll not only save you money but will help save nature massively.
* Remain quiet and vigilant. Don’t disturb the tranquility of the nature. Instead savor it.
* Try and bring if you spot any litter/garbage left behind by other careless travellers.
* Don’t light fires unnecessarily and do try to use portable cookers instead of using firewood when camping. The increase usage of firewood leads to more deforestation even at a smaller scale.
* Don’t bring any plants back with you or break any plants/branches unnecessarily.
* Don’t walk off the designated footpath.
* Don’t use soap/detergent/shampoo when bathing in natural streams as they’d only lead to the contamination of those pure water sources and elimination of wildlife species.
* Don’t do anything that harms the Mother Nature.

මුහුදු මහා විහාරය MUHUDU MAHA VIHARAYA POTHUVIL
මුහුදු මහා විහාරය (MUHUDU MAHA VIHARAYA)
* Even though many people consider that Kirinda is the place where Viharamaha Devi landed, according to Historical facts, it is believed to be Muhudu Maha Viharaya in Pottuvil. Actually this temple has around 2000 years of history.
* This used to be a large complex, currently restricted to a small area due to land acquisition by the villages. Same time some of the historical artifacts were buried under the sand dunes.
* If you are driving towards the Arugambay, you can see the small name board towards to your left. The road towards the Muhudu Maha Viharaya is very narrow and difficult even two cars to pass in by at a time.
