Stopping the Kugel Ball at Gatlinburg Ripley's
Down in Gatlinburg, Tennessee's Ripley's believe it or not museum they have a Kugel ball out front on the sidewalk. It does take a lot to try and stop it from rolling in place but it can be done. This is just one of the many places we have to stop at while were on vacation down there in Tennesse.
A kugel ball is a sculpture consisting of a large granite ball supported by a very thin film of water. Water flows beneath a very heavy, perfectly spherical rock from a spherical concave base with exactly the same curvature. A kugel ball can weigh thousands of pounds, but because the thin film of water lubricates it, the ball spins
