Kukaniloko Birthstones (Oahu, Hawaii) LookIntoHawaii.com
The Kukaniloko Birth Stones were used long ago by chiefs and chiefesses who would come here for the birth of their children. A child that was born here was assured a high ranking status. There used to be a Ho'olonopahu Heiau here as well but that was (unfortunately) removed back in the days when sugar cane and pineapple fields ruled.

Hawaiian Archaeoastronomy at Kukaniloko with Martha Noyes
One of the best observatories on O'ahu eight hundred years ago was the famed Kūkaniloko, or Birthing Stones. The site is now a State Monument not far from Wahiawa on O'ahu. Kaui Lucas, host of Hawai'i is My Main Land, interviews Martha Noyes, who has been studying the site, and its astronomical functions in particular, for the past 12 years.
The skill of pre-Western contact Polynesian astronomers has become famous, through modern use of celestial navigation for voyaging canoes. Noyes explains some of the knowledge systems at this site for tracking the sun and other heavenly bodies.

Pu'u O Mahuka Heiau State Historic Site
59-818 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712
Puʻu o Mahuka Heiau is the largest heiau (religious site or temple) on Oʻahu, covering almost 2 acres. The name is translated as “hill of escape”. Undoubtedly, this heiau played an important role in the social, political, and religious system of Waimea Valley which was a major occupation center of Oʻahu in the pre-contact period.
