The Kul Sharif Mosque is the biggest mosque in Europe. It was named in honor of the head of the Kazan knanate muslims, seid Kul Sharif, who got killed during the defence of the citadel. The minarets of the mosque are 57 meters high. The mosque was destroyed in October 1552 during the assault of Kazan by Ivan the Terrible's troops. The reconstruction of the mosque began in 1996, and its inauguration took place in 2005.

The Qolsharif Mosque in Russia, though undoubtedly modern, has deep historical ties to the past.
The current building, found in Kazan Kremlin, was started in 1996 and inaugurated in 2005.
However, the mosque was rebuilt after an ancient mosque of the same name from the 1500s.
This mosque was supposedly the biggest in Russia at the time of its construction.
Its appearance is uncertain because it was destroyed in 1552 by Ivan the Terrible.
The new Qolsharif Mosque attempts to mirror the old, and, in doing so, has created a beautiful building.

The Qolşärif Mosque (pronounced [kɔlʃæˈriːf], also spelled Qol Sharif, Qol Sherif and Kol Sharif via the Tatar Qol Şärif mäçete, Qolşärif mäçete, and Kul Sharif via the Russian мечеть Кул-Шариф, mechet Kul-Sharif) located in Kazan Kremlin, was reputed to be – at the time of its construction – one of the largest mosques in Russia, and in Europe outside of Istanbul.

The Kul Sharif Mosque is the great symbol of Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan. The mosque was named after Kazan's last great Imam before Ivan the Terrible invaded and seized the city. The Kul Sharif Mosque is one of the largest mosques in Europe and the principal mosque of Kazan .It is located on the territory of the Kazan Kremlin, the historic and architectural ensemble of Kazan that is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One day in Kazan, Russia. Things to do | 2018
My name is Daria and I live in Moscow. I decided to make a little trip to Kazan for one day.
Some facts.
Kazan is the sixth most populous city in Russia.
It is one of the host cities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Population of Kazan is more than 1 243 500.
Kazan lies at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers.
There are 2 official languages in Kazan: Russian and Tatarian. And they have 2 presidents.
Kazan’s subway has 10 stations.
There is an Aero express from the airport. It takes 30 minutes to get to the center. It costs 40 rubles, in comparison, in Moscow a ticket for aero express costs 500 rubles.
You will see many historical buildings, the beautiful Volga river, taste national sweets and dishes, meet calm people.
In comparison with Moscow this city is calm, the air is fresh, and the prices are lower.
Most interesting places are concentrated in the center of Kazan. Let’s start our trip.

مسجد قل شریف - قازان - روس
شروع اللہ کے نام سے جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم والا ہے
اسلام علیکم ؛آج ہم بات کریں گے؛مسجد قل شریف کی
قل شریف مسجد (عربی- قول شریف، فارسی- گل شریف) بھی کہا جاتا ہے یہ روس کے علاقے تاتارستان کے دارالحکومت قازان میں واقع ہے۔
قازان روس کی جمہوریہ تاتارستان کا دارالحکومت اور سب سے بڑا شہر ہے جس کی آبادی ساڑھے 11 لاکھ سے زائد ہے، جن میں سے تقریباً نصف روسی اور اتنی ہی تاتاری مسلمانوں پر مشتمل ہے۔ یوں یہ روس کا آٹھواں سب سے بڑا شہر ہے۔ قازان روس کے یورپی حصے میں دریائے وولگا اور دریائے قازانکا کے ملاپ پر واقع ہے۔ اس میں ترک مسلمان بھی آباد ہیں ۔
یہ مسجد احمد قدیروف گروزنی - چیچینیا کے بعد روس کی دوسری بڑی مسجد ہے۔
اس کے بارے میں یہ بھی کہا جاتا ہے کہ یہ یورپ کی سب سے بڑی مسجد ہے۔
یہ مسجد 16 ویں صدی میں قازان میں تعمیر کی گئی۔ اسے روایتی وولگا بلغاریہ انداز میں تیار کیا گیا تھا لیکن یورپی نشاۃ ثانیہ کے اولین دور کا اور عثمانی انداز بھی استعمال کیا گیا تھا۔ 1552ء میں سقوط قازان کے بعد روسیوں نے اس مسجد کو شہید کر دیا۔
تاتار دانشوروں کا کہنا ہے کہ قل شریف مسجد کے چند عنصر ماسکو میں قائم مشہور سینٹ بازل گرجے میں بھی دیکھے جا سکتے ہیں جن میں 8 مینار اور ایک مرکزی گنبد شامل ہے جو روایتی روسی طرز تعمیر سے مطابقت نہیں رکھتا۔ 1996ء میں اس مسجد کی دوبارہ تعمیر کا آغاز ہوا جو جدید طرز تعمیر کی حامل ہے۔ نئی مسجد کا افتتاح 24 جولائی 2005ء کو ہوا۔
۔ مسجد کی تعمیر کے لیے سعودی عرب اور متحدہ عرب امارات نے کثیر امداد مہیا کی۔
۔سفید اور آسمانی رنگ کے خوبصورت امتزاج سے بنی مسجد قل شریف کی عمارت دیکھنے والوں کو سحر میں مبتلا کر دیتی ہے ۔
خوبصورت محرابیں ، بلند مینار ، منفرد طرز تعمیر مسجد کی بناوٹ کا طرہ امتیاز ہے ۔ داخلی دروازے کے ساتھ ہی مسجد کا انتہائی خوبصورت ماڈل آنکھوں کو چندھیا دیتا ہے ۔رنگین قمقموں سے مزین فانوس نماز کے لیے بنے ہال کی شان بڑھا رہا ہے ، مسجد کی اندرونی دیواریں اور کھڑکیاں فن تعمیر کا شاندار نمونہ ہیں ۔ ، مسجد کے چار مینار اور ایک گنبد ہے ۔
مسجد قل شریف میں لائبریری اور امام کا آفس بھی موجود ہے ، یہاں تقریباً چھ ہزار نمازیوں گنجائش ہے۔

The amazing Kul Sharif Mosque is the most iconic symbol of Kazan, Russia's third city and emerging tourist destination. This has long been an ambition of mine to visit after seeing it many years ago on Euronews. The original Mosque stood from the Middle Ages and was recently rebuilt. There is a viewing gallery for visitors and a Museum of Islam below.
