History Of Kuldhara
Kuldhara is an abandoned village in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, India. Established around 13th century, it was once a prosperous village inhabited by PaliwalBrahmins. It was abandoned by the early 19th century for unknown reasons, possibly because of dwindling water supply, or as a local legend claims, because of persecution by the Jaisalmer State's minister Salim Singh. A 2017 study suggests that Kuldhara and other neighbouring villages were abandoned because of an earthquake.
Haunted Story Of Kuldhara Village Of Jaisalmer
Lying 17km west of Jaisalmer, Kuldhara has a story. Some 300 years ago, it used to be a prosperous village of Paliwal Brahmins under the state of Jaisalmer. According to the legend, the evil eyes of Salim Singh, the powerful and debauched prime minister of the state, fell on the daughter of the village head and he desired to marry her by force. He threatened the village with grave consequences if they did not adhere to his wish. Instead of submitting to the order of the tyrant, the Paliwals held a council and people of 85 villages left their ancestral homes and vanished. But this was not all; before leaving, they put a curse on Kuldhara that no one will ever be able to settle in their village thereafter. To this date, the village remains barren; left almost the same as its inhabitants had left it centuries ago. It is also said that people who have tried to stay there at night have been chased away by strange paranormal phenomenon.

Kuldhara: An Abandoned & Cursed Village of Rajasthan
Kuldhara story is one of the weirdest and inspiring stories I’ve ever heard. About 15 Km. west of Jaisalmer a city in western Rajasthan lies the ruins of a village which was called Kuldhara. The first sight of Kuldhara village, more a town actually, sends one imagination running to the time it may have been inhabited. A well planned settlement, the straight and wide streets ran in grids with houses opening into them. All design elements kept both aesthetics and utility in mind. A kind of a garage opened into the streets to park carts in. Temples, step wells and other structures were all signs of sound development over the centuries.
[16]
Gradually, the village acquired reputation as a haunted place, and started attracting tourists.[17][18] The local residents around the area do not believe in the ghost stories, but propagate them in order to attract tourists.[19] In the early 2010s, Gaurav Tiwari of Indian Paranormal Society claimed to have observed paranormal activities at the site. The 18-member team of the Society along with 12 other people spent a night at the village. They claimed to have encountered moving shadows, haunting voices, talking spirits, and other paranormal activities.[20]
In 2006, the government set up a Jurassic Cactus Park at the site for botanical studies.[19] In 2011, some scenes of the movie Agent Vinod were shot at the site. The film's crew raised new structures for their set. They painted the ruined walls with Taliban insignia and Urdu words for their shooting requirements. They also covered some of the walls with cow dung to get the rustic look. Many tourists accused them of defacing heritage property, and subsequently, the Rajasthan government stalled the shooting. The police booked cases against three of the crew members. The producers defended themselves blaming the episode on a misunderstanding, and stated that they believed they had the necessary permissions. The Archaeological department imposed a fine of ₹ 100,000 on the producers, and also asked them to deposit ₹ 300,000 for restoring the defaced structures. After three days of restoration, the Taliban pictures, the Urdu phrases and the cow dung was removed from the walls.[21][22]
In 2015, the Rajasthan government decided to actively develop the village as a tourist spot.[16] The project is being undertaken as a public-private partnership with Jindal Steel Works. The plan includes establishment of visitor facilities such as a cafe, a lounge, a folk-dance performance area, night-stay cottages and shops.[23]

कुलधरा (Kuldhara) 2nd Most Haunted Place in India | Haunted Village Kuldhara
A little over 20 kilometres to the west of the desert town of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, lies Kuldhara.
In an era of powerful kings and ministers, about 200 years ago, Kuldhara was home to the Paliwal Brahmins. It was during this time that Salim Singh, the Diwan of Jaisalmer, known for his debauchery and unscrupulous tax-collecting methods, set his eyes on the beautiful daughter of the village chief. The Diwan was absolutely hell bent on having the girl and he told the villagers if they came in his way he would levy huge taxes on them.
Fearing the wrath of the Diwan, the residents of the entire village fled one dark night, leaving behind their homes and everything within them. Kuldhara was abandoned by its very own people. No one saw the thousand-odd members of the village leave. For generations now, no one knows where the Paliwals have resettled. All that is known is they cursed the town when they left – that no one would ever be able to settle down in Kuldhara again.

Kuldhara – an abandoned and cursed village
Kuldhara is a village in Rajasthan, near Jaisalmer, and it is famous for being abandoned by all its residents in just one night.
The story begins almost 200 years ago. The Kuldhara village people were frightened of only one person- the Diwan (Minister) of Jaisalmer. People say that he was demon-like and extremely huge. Since he was the minister, they had to pay him the taxes levied upon them.
One day when the Diwan came for his village visits to collect tax, his eye fell upon the beautiful daughter of the Mukhia (Chief) of the village.
The evil Diwan fell in love with the girl and announced, “I am going to marry this girl. If anybody stops me, then I will levy more taxes on the entire community. I will come tomorrow to take her away with me.”
The villagers were frightened, especially the Mukhia and his beautiful daughter. They did not want the girl to get married to a monster. They had to act quickly.
The Mukhia decided that the entire community will flee from Kuldhara and the nearby 84 villages. He sent his messengers to inform everyone and that night all the villagers left their land, cursing the evil Diwan and the land.
The next day, the Diwan came to take away the girl but found the village empty. How so many villagers vanished in one night is still a mystery.
The Paranormal Society of India found spooky voices, shadows that moved, and hand prints of children on cars when their team visited Kuldhara. Are you brave enough to visit that place?
