Far off in the mountains of Kiso valley lies the old town of Magomejuku. It's an old post-town on the Nakasendo (the old road from Edo to Kyoto). The landscape is gorgeous and the town even more so. I spent the night at a traditional minshuku (japanese guesthouse). It was 6 hours by train and bus from my last place, but definetly worth it!
