Kumarakom is a popular tourism destination located near the city of Kottayam in Kerala, India, famous for its backwater tourism. It is set in the backdrop of the Vembanad Lake, the largest lake in the state of Kerala.
There are many tourist spots in Kumarakom and we spent the day exploring a couple of places and tried some authentic Kerala dishes.
We started off early morning from our resort and headed to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. We took an auto to reach there and it took us about 10-15 mins and costed around 110 rupees. Upon reaching we got the Entry tickets of Rs 50 each and walked through the forest trails and reached the watch tower after about 45 mins of walk. We was pleasantly surprised to see so many birds from the watch tower.
Next we went for a boat ride through the backwaters of Kumarakom experiencing the beauty of the village life and Vembanad lake. The boat ride costed us Rs 900 for one and half hour.
By the time our boat ride ended we were really hungry and went back to our resort where we had Kerala delicacies like Karimeen fry, Chettinad chicken along with Kerala rice.
After lunch we retied for the day with a Sunset Cruise over the Vembanad lake.
