HITravelTales.com team visits Dragon Gate and Western Hills Xishan Park just outside of Kunming, China. Not every must-see travel destination is so easy to get to. And that can make the journey even more of an adventure. Dragon Gate in the Western Hills (Xishan Forest Park) on the outskirts of Kunming, China, is one of those. The reasons we can list are many – green hills with forested walking paths, a breather from the sensory chaos of the city, temples and pavilions dating back to the 11th century, views of the region from about 8,200 feet (2,000 feet above the city itself), winding stone staircases, strolling monks, gardens, sculptures and also grottoes and tunnels carved out of the mountains rock face. Kunming, Yunnan, West Hill - China Travel Channel
From the West Hill of the city of Kunming, located in the furthest outreaches of Southwest China in the Province of Yunnan over the lake and the city, at an elevation of 2000 m, you have a beautiful panoramic view. The temple complex of Huating and the Taihua Temple are popular excursion destinations. The Sanqing Pavilion and the Dragon's Gate are directly carved in the sheer rock cliffs. The journey up to see them leads over steep steps and narrow paths. Currently however, there are two chair lifts available to bring tourists to the summit in a more comfortable manner.
The mild climate is perfect for tobacco farming which is the city's main source of income. The climate also provides the city its name of The City of Eternal Spring. However, it is ill-rumored that Kunming is the main trans-shipment center for narcotics, since it is located close to the Golden Triangle – just 500 km from Vietnam and Laos and 700 km from Myanmar. Nonetheless, Kunming is an important transport junction and center for industry and trade. Various ores are mined around the Kunming area as well.

Böse Zungen sagen ihr nach, Hauptumschlagplatz für Rauschgift zu sein, was angesichts ihrer Nähe zum goldenen Dreieck, nur 500 km von Vietnam und Laos und 700 km von Myanmar entfernt, nicht so abwegig erscheint. Zweifellos ist Kunming aber ein bedeutender Verkehrsknoten und Industrie und Handelsplatz. In der näheren Umgebung werden verschiedene Erze abgebaut.

After visiting the Stone Forest we spent a day in Kunming and decided to see the West Mountain Park. A very good decision. The cable car ride is awesome and the chair lift along the ridge is memorable but the finale is the walk down Dragon's Gate. Along the edge of the mountain with wonderful views across Dianqi Lake and spectacular, heart stopping views downwards this is a walk not to be missed.

Куньмін ще називають Містом вічної весни за його м’який клімат. Воно є найбільшим містом провінції Юньнань, яка розташована на південному-заході Китаю.
Мені пощастило жити і працювати тут певний час, тому у нас з вами буде можливість знайомитися з містом разом: шукати визначні місця, поринати в його атмосферу, вивчати його характер.
Ми живемо недалеко від озера Дянчі. І в свій перший вихідний знайшли наосліп чудову локацію поблизу - район Сішань, розташований на його північно-західному березі. Канатна дорога через озеро, затишний парк, йдучи вздовж якого ви можете насолоджуватися тишею та природою, яка вас оточуює, і, нарешті, вершина, з якої відкривається просто неймовірний вид - і це все поруч.
Ціни:
Канатна дорога (від набережної до входу в парк) - 70 юанів у дві сторони, 40 - в одну.
Вхід у парк “The Longmen Scenic Area” - 30 юанів.
Туристичний автомобіль - 10 юанів.
Автобус “Lakeside Xishan”, який доставить вас від метро до входу в парк - 12 юанів. Та, якщо пройдетесь пішки, не пошкодуєте.
