Castle Hill ★ Canterbury New Zealand
Castle Hill, ★ Canterbury, New Zealand. A Short walk through the karst landscape of Kura Tawhiti - the limestone boulders are big and a great place to go exploring - also a popular rock climbing and parkour destination for people far fitter than I am. Also had a trip to Cave Stream - check out my 2 videos on that.
Castle Hill is located in the high country of New Zealand’s South Island, a couple hours west of Christchurch. It is one of those places that you must experience to believe it is real. Huge groupings of limestone boulders and columns emulate ancient stone castles and fortresses. This rock climbing paradise has been named the “spiritual center of the universe” by Dalai Lama.
It's also a filming location, scenes from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (2005) were filmed here. Castle Hill can be found in west canterbury on the way to Arthur's pass. Just before Castle Hill Village.

Castle Hill, New Zealand - 360° VR Video
Castle Hill is a high country sheep station in New Zealand's South Island. It is located at an altitude of 700 metres, close to State Highway 73 between Christchurch and Arthur's Pass. It located within the Kura Tawhiti Conservation Area
The hill was so named because of the imposing array of limestone boulders in the area reminiscent of an old, run-down stone castle.
In 2002 it was named a Spiritual Center of the Universe by the Dalai Lama.
It is widely considered to be the epitome of New Zealand's South Island climbing scene, where on any given day one can find rock climbers bouldering the unique limestone outcroppings.
This area has recently seen more visitors, as nearby Flock Hill station was used for the filming of the climactic battle scenes of the 2005 movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Flock Hill also has a huge number of climbable limestone boulders though access requires a short certification procedure via the internet, unlike Kura Tawhiti which, as a conservation area, allows free access at all times.
Castle Hill Station was established by the Porter brothers, and later owned by brothers John and Charles Enys. John Enys was a noted entomologist, and friend of novelist Samuel Butler.
Porter Heights Ski Field is nearby.

Day trip to the amazing Kura Tawhiti (Castle Hill) and Cave Stream, Canterbury, New Zealand
Took the family for a short walk through the karst landscape of Kura Tawhiti - the limstone tors are huge and a great place to go exploring - also a popular climbing destination for people far fitter than I am. Also had a quick look at Cave Stream - I plan to do a bit of a walk through here later in the summer...
Most of this is FPV with the GoPro, but I've included a couple of photos that I've taken at this location, too.
