Kuranda is a unique small town elevated up on the mountain top 30 minutes from Cairns. Lori and I enjoyed travelling their on the Scenic Rail which allows for plenty of time to take in the views.
We stayed at Kuranda Hotel Motel which is conveniently 50 meters from where the Scenic Rail line ends. Over the course of 2 days we enjoyed a lot of tourist attractions full of wildlife, markets, nature and indigenous roots.
We journeyed home on the iconic Skyrail and wow was this an experience! Soaring high above the rainforest canopy with 360 degree views all the way home to Cairns.

Kuranda Village:
The picturesque mountain retreat of Kuranda Village is just 25km northwest of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia and is surrounded by World Heritage Rainforest.
Kuranda is well known as the Village in the Rainforest and has been attracting visitors for well over a century. Initially people came to admire the mighty Barron Falls, while artisans were attracted to the region's natural beauty and decided to call it home, creating a vibrant arts and craft culture.
Today people flock to this tiny village to enjoy both of these things, the stunning natural beauty and the relaxed atmosphere of the local markets, selling unique souvenirs and gift items. The Village in the Rainforest is open 7 days a week and Tourism Kuranda invites you to spend some time enjoying the many things to see and do in this little piece of paradise.

Australia - Cairns, Kuranda, Rainforest, Kangaroo, Aboriginals, and more
This is a very action packed video from my Australia trip with lots of Australian animals and stuff. Setting out from Cairns, we went on the Kuranda Scenic Railway train to Kuranda. In Kuranda we got to hold a Koala and see parrots up close in the Kuranda Bird Park.
We threw boomerangs and learned about Australian Aboriginal Culture at Tjapukai. We saw some Eastern Grey Kangaroos and wild parrots in the Savannah Woodland on the edge of the rainforest.
This video includes: Beach in Cairns, Kuranda Scenic Railway, Kuranda Koala Gardens, BirdWorld Kuranda, Skyrail, Australian Rainforest, Tjapukai Aboriginal Culture Park, Boomerang Throwing, Fire Starting, Aboriginal Hunting Dances, Boomerang Painting, Emu, Galah, Black Red Tailed Cockatoos, Eastern Grey Kangaroos

SKYRAIL RAINFOREST CABLEWAY | KURANDA MARKETS | 2019 CAIRNS AUSTRALIA SERIES | EPISODE 4
Welcome back! In episode 4 of our Cairns travel show series we wake up one of the cast at 4:30am to experience Cairns from a different perspective - Barron Gorge National Park, where you can hike through the rainforest up to the ancient Glacier Rock Lookout which offers panoramic views of Cairns - incredible kick start to a day of adventuring in Cairns, Australia.
Great feedback and advice here:
After the surprise wake up call we head back to the house to pick up the rest of the crew for our next adventure - the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway! During our experience the cast get a bit rowdy on the way up and KIRA IS CHALLENGED to face one of her biggest fears. This is continually voted as one of the best things to do in Cairns and we agree! You get to experience a unique perspective of Australia's World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforest as you glide above the treetops. We'd recommend getting the Diamond View gondola so you can watch the rainforest canopy glide beneath your feet through your glass bottom gondola. You'll also get the chance to make stops along the way at Red Peak which looks out over ancient landscapes and Barron Falls where you can see the waterfalls plunge through Barron Gorge National Park. The trip is roughly 1.5hrs one way with the option of going return on the gondolas, or opting to get the Kuranda Railway Train back into town.
Lunch:
Kuranda Hotel - Perched up high in the tropical rainforest just a short walk from the heart of the village and both railway stations is this legendary Aussie style pub that has been serving up ice cold beers and dishing up hearty meals for over 100 years. Linked below.
Kuranda Markets:
This little village in the rainforest is world famous for its markets and is your surprise treat when you reach the top of your Skyrail Cableway experience. Find aboriginal artefacts, handmade crafts, book stalls, fortune reading, delicious food, live entertainment from buskers doing their thing as well as some of the finest opals in the world.
Jewellery House Kuranda:
Crystal Cascades:
One of Tropical North Queenslands natural secrets, accessible by self drive. It's one of those places locals would wish to keep to themselves. We went here after our morning at Kuranda for a quick dip and to chuck a few backies! There are secluded freshwater swimming holes hidden in the tropical rainforest which flow into a series of rock pools that are surrounded by huge granite boulders. Chat to the locals to find your way to this beauty!

Kuranda, village in the rainforest. Australia
Kuranda is a town on the Atherton Tableland in Far North Queensland, Australia, it is 25 kilometres from Cairns via the Kuranda Range road. It is surrounded by rainforest.
It is very touristic, but you can walk there very good and so I did. In the day I took nearly all walking tracks that there are.
I was so by feet at the Barron Waterfalls and looked around in the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary.
I went back with the Kuranda Scenic Railway and so again along the Barron and other waterfalls, through tunnels and over railwayviaducts with a nice view over the different landscapes.
Kuranda Day Trip/Scenic Railway/Koala Gardens/Skyrail Rainforest Cableway
Hey friends! In this video, we take you back to Australia where we take a day trip from Cairns to the village of Kuranda. What's so special about Kuranda? Well, the Kuranda Koala Gardens is located there and it is one of the few places in Australia where you can cuddle with a koala bear! We booked our day tour through Down Under Tours. They picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off at the Kuranda Scenic Railway station. The Kuranda Scenic Railway takes you through the beautiful Barron Gorge National Park to the village of Kuranda. The train ride takes approximately 2 hours with a quick 10 minute stop to view Barron Falls. When you arrive in Kuranda you can either walk to the village or take the free shuttle bus. We had about 3 hours to explore the village. There is a separate entrance fee to enter the Koala Gardens. In the gardens they have an area where you can feed wallabies and kangaroos. There is also a separate charge to cuddle and take a picture with the koala bear. It was a bit pricey but it is definitely a once in a lifetime experience. G3 had difficulty figuring out how to properly hold the koala but he eventually got it! Lol!
We have lunch at the Frog Restaurant where we try an appetizer trio of grilled kangaroo, crocodile, and emu. G3 was brave enough to try it. Does he like it? You'll have to watch and see!
After lunch, we check out the Kuranda Heritage Market and buy souvenirs. We take a walk through the village on our way back to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is a 7.5 km scenic cableway running above the Barron Gorge National Park. You get amazing views above the rainforest. If you're afraid of heights this ride may not be for you! There are two stations where you can get off and explore a bit of the rainforest but we were pressed for time and had to pass.
If you are ever in Cairns and have a day to spare, we highly recommend you take this tour!

The Great Kuranda Undie Fun Run
The picturesque mountain retreat of Kuranda Village is just 25km northwest of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia and is surrounded by World Heritage Rainforest. Visitors can travel to Kuranda on Kuranda's Historic Scenic Railway or by car or bus, via the spectacular Kuranda Range Road or over the rainforest on Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.
On the 23rd of October we visited Kuranda, the village in the rainforest, for Kuranda Day, which marks the official survey of the village back in 1888 and celebrates everything that makes Kuranda such an amazing community!!
Featured here we show the Great Kuranda Undie Fun Run in which suitably clad competitors ran from the banks of the Barron River through the beautiful rainforest tracks and up to the finish line at Centenary Park in the village centre.
Other activities during the day included the Bash of the Barron River Raft Race and a German Tucker Sausage Eating Competition.
There were jumping castles, face painting and pony and trap rides in the park for the children, with circus workshops and street performers throughout the day.
Local bands played in the park and at cafes around the village; the band featured here and playing the great music you're listening to is Get Reel, with Kirk & Gail Steel, Steve Wettenhall and Mick O'Mara -- thanks for the music, guys!
