The Kurhaus is the spa house in Wiesbaden, the capital of Hesse, Germany. It serves as the city's convention centre, and the social center of the spa town. In addition to a large and a smaller hall, it houses a restaurant and the Wiesbaden Casino, or Spielbank, which is notable for allowing the highest roulette stakes in Germany (as of 2005), and where Fyodor Dostoyevsky was said to have received the inspiration for his novel The Gambler.
The Kurhaus Wiesbaden is in the centre of Wiesbaden, part of the Kureck (spa corner) at the end of the main street, Wilhelmstraße, with the town proper being situated on the other side of the Wilhelmstraße. Its main entrance, on the west side, faces the so-called Bowling Green, a grass-covered square with two fountains, so named by British spa guests. On the south side of the green is the Hessisches Staatstheater with the Theater colonnade and on the north the Kurhaus colonnade or fountain hall, with a length of 129 metres (423 ft), it is the longest columned hall in Europe.
It houses the slot machines for the casino. In 2004–06, an underground parking garage was constructed under the square and the aging plane trees that had formerly stood along both sides were replaced by young trees of the same species. Behind the Kurhaus, the landscaped Kurpark extends eastward, with a band shell and a fountain pond. The park is cited as the most scenic in the city.
Wiesbaden has a long history as a spa town. The Romans already knew of the thermal springs of Wiesbaden. The name of the city is derived from Wisibada, the bathing place in the meadows. In 1810, the first spa house was built by Christian Zais.[8] This was a beautiful but relatively modest building with a columned portico, including Doric and Ionic features,[5] in classical style. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe praised the building on one of his many visits. During the 19th century, the benefits of the spa attracted the upper classes. The number of spa visitors, 20,000 in 1840, had increased tenfold by 1910.
The Kurhaus Wiesbaden is constructed in neo-classical style with Art Nouveau elements; the facade is of Belle Époque style. Other exterior features are the Corinthian columns and the mythical griffins frieze. On the building's portal the words Aquis Mattiacis (the waters of the Mattiaci) are inscribed, a tribute to the Germanic tribe that once inhabited the area.

Im Rahmen einer Kooperation zwischen dem Kurhaus Wiesbaden und der Hochschule RheinMain haben zwei Studentinnen des Studiengangs „Media: Conception & Production“ für ihre praktische Abschlussarbeit einen Imagefilm über die Veranstaltungsmöglichkeiten im Kurhaus Wiesbaden gedreht. Mit dem knapp 3-minütigen Clip sollen die Möglichkeiten des Kurhauses als Veranstaltungslocation vorgestellt werden.
Um die Vielseitigkeit des Kurhauses als Veranstaltungsort zu präsentieren, wurde zu verschiedenen Terminen und Veranstaltungen gedreht, so beispielsweise zur RPR1. Tanzbar, zum Ball des Weines, während dem Rheingau Musik Festival und zu einer Preisverleihung der Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache.

Neuer Klang im Kurhaus
Leider ist sie nicht mehr ganz im optimalen Zustand: Die Orgel im Wiesbadener Kurhaus. So kam es nicht selten vor, dass es Aussetzer mitten in einem Konzert gab. Das soll jetzt aber ein Ende haben. Gemeinsam mit seinem Förderverein Kurhausorgel e. V. und einigen Sponsoren konnte das Kurhaus nun Erneuerungen ermöglichen.
Silvester im Kurhaus
Das Kurhaus bietet seinen Gästen ein elegantes Ambiente, in dem zum Jahreswechsel wieder ebenso stilvoll wie ausgelassen gefeiert wurde.

Today we walk in Wiesbaden, the capital city of the German state Hesse.
Coming from the train station we start at the Luisenplatz with the Bonifatius church. We walk into the old town on the Kirchgasse which is a popular shopping street on this sunny day. Onwards to the Marktkirche and town hall of Wiesbaden we also check out the park where there are trees in bloom. Passing Hessisches Staatstheater towards the Kurhaus and Casino we enjoy the sunny spring weather.
We see the a thermal fountain Kochbrunnen, which is a sodium chloride hot spring and also pass through the Römertor. From there we are heading back to the inner old town for a last stop at the Holocaust Memorial (Shadow of former Synagogue).

We went to the Wiesbaden Kurhaus Casino in Germany. This gambling palace is almost 300 years old. The kurhaus casino is a magnificent. It has no slots or slotmachines, only live table games like blackjack, poker, roulette or punto banco.
You can play slotmachines in another building, a 'Spielbank', next to the origibal building.

Wiesbaden is one of the oldest spa towns in Europe. Its name translates to meadow baths, making reference to the hot springs. Wiesbaden is internationally famous for its architecture, climate (also called the Nice of the North), and its hot springs. At one time, Wiesbaden boasted 26 hot springs. Fourteen of the springs are still flowing today.In 1970, the town of Wiesbaden hosted the tenth Hessentag state festival.
Wiesbaden has long been famous for its thermal springs and spa. Use of the thermal springs was first documented by the Romans. The business of spring bathing became important for Wiesbaden near the end of the Middle Ages. Wiesbaden is well connected to the German motorway (Autobahn) system. The Wiesbadener Kreuz is an Autobahn interchange eastwards the city where the Bundesautobahn 3 (A 3), Cologne to Würzburg, and the Bundesautobahn 66 (A 66), Rheingau to Fulda, meet. With approximately 190,000 cars daily it is one of the most heavily used interchange in Germany. The Bundesautobahn 66 (A 66) connects Wiesbaden with Frankfurt. Wiesbaden's main railway station and several minor railway stops connect the town with Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Mainz, Limburg and Koblenz via Rüdesheim.

Lined with magnificent neoclassical buildings that were rebuilt after WWII, Wiesbaden, the state capital of Hesse, is one of Europe's oldest spa towns, with hot springs still flowing today. It's 40km west of Frankfurt, across the Rhine from Mainz. Wiesbaden's name translates as 'meadow baths', reflecting both its thermal baths and beautiful expanses of parkland. The city lies at the eastern edge of the Rheingau wine-growing region, which stretches along the Rhine's right (northern) bank west to the Rüdesheim area of the Romantic Rhine.
Renowned Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821–81) amassed huge debts at the city’s gambling tables in the 1860s, which inspired his masterpiece, The Gambler. Home to the European headquarters of the US Army, Wiesbaden has a strong US military presence, with around 19,000 US citizens based here.
Wiesbaden is a historic spa city which has catered to people from countries near and far for many centuries, back to the Romans who knew it as Aquis Mattiacis. Wiesbaden is one of the oldest spa towns in Europe with 26 (today: 14) hot springs.
Today it is part of the larger Rhine area and profits from its proximity to the Frankfurt Airport and the business centre of Frankfurt. During peak times (trade fairs, conventions, etc.) a lot of business travellers stay in Wiesbaden instead of in Frankfurt and relax from the busy metropolis in this smaller city with a charming old city.
Wiesbaden is very well connected by many highways from Frankfurt, Cologne or Mainz. Trains travel frequently and are very enjoyable. Travel times by car are roughly 15 min (from Mainz), 30 min (from Frankfurt), or 2 hr (from Cologne / Köln).

The Kurpark, German for Spa Park, is a public park in the centre of Wiesbaden, Germany, stretching from the Wilhelmstraße to the southern borders of the district of Sonneberg and lying immediately behind the Kurhaus convention center.
It was created in 1852 as an English landscape park and includes a lake where boats can be rented, and a 6 metres (20 ft) tall fountain. It has been described as the most beautiful park in Wiesbaden.
The Kurpark Wiesbaden, which begins immediately behind the Kurhaus (convention and event centre), was designed in 1852 in the style of an English landscape garden. The garden's foliage includes magnolias, azaleas, rhododendrons and swamp cypresses.
The pond, where visitors can hire boats, features a man-made island and an impressive six metre tall fountain. Visitors to the Nizza Plätzchen, a small garden adjacent to the Kurhaus, can see a few columns of the original Kurhaus taken down to make way for the new building completed in 1907. For several years, the 75,000 square metre park, which extends from the city centre to the Wiesbaden district of Sonnenberg, has also hosted rock and pop concerts. And in the summer of 2005 more than 10,000 visitors came here to greet the Dalai Lama.
