Kurobe Gorge Railway in Autumn
Kurobe Gorge Railway was originally constructed as a private railway for the development of hydraulic power sources in Kurobe basin. The construction was started in 1923, and had been offering unauthorized piggyback ride for some tourists such as mountain climbers. In 1971, the railway was officially licensed for passenger service. Especially in autumn, many tourists visit this railway to enjoy seeing leaves changing colors.

Kurobe Gorge Railway 2019
[ Maniac Japan Travel -Hokuriku ]
The Kurobe Gorge (黒部峡谷, Kurobe Kyōkoku) is a beautiful, forested ravine in the rugged mountains of the Northern Japan Alps.
Cut by the Kurobe River, it is one of the deepest gorges in Japan. Its steep, nearly vertical cliffs, untouched virgin forests, and outdoor hot springs have made it a famous destination to see natural scenic beauty. It is not to be confused with the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route, which is nearby, but accessed from a completely different direction.
The main attraction of the gorge is the Kurobe Gorge Railway, a sightseeing train originally built to aid the construction of the Kurobe Dam. Today the small trains operate along a winding, 20 kilometer stretch between Unazuki and Keyakidaira Stations. The exciting 80 minute journey leads across more than 20 bridges and through over 40 tunnels, and offers visitors panoramic views of the gorge below. The trains stop at a few stations along the way where visitors can get off and explore.
The trains operate seasonally from mid April through November, and are most popular in autumn when the forested slopes along the railroad turn bright orange and red with beautiful fall colors. Since the mountains cover a large elevation range, the Kurobe Gorge enjoys a long fall color season which usually runs from mid October to mid November.
The trains carry a variety of cars. The majority of them are open sided cars with 4 person bench seats; however, most trains also offer one or two types of enclosed cars with more comfortable seating at an additional fee. When purchasing a ticket, you will be assigned a car number, but seats within the car are unnumbered. For the best views, sit on the right side of the train when heading into the gorge.
Kurobe Gorge Railway the Perfect Japan Get Away OR SO WE THOUGHT!
The Kurobe Gorge Railway in Unazuki Onsen town was an absolute highlight for us! Although not completely unknown, this place definitely deserves more attention! To finish the night off we tried two different michelin starred meals!... well not really we got the instant ramen from Tsuta and Nakiryu, both michelin starred ramen restaurants, but it was still really tasty!
If you are planning to go tickets are about 3900 yen (about 50 AUD). Make sure to not go on a public holiday like we did!

4k Hottest travel place in Japan - Kurobe Gorge Railway
The 4k video shows one of the hottest travel places in Japan - Kurobe Gorge Railway. Different season has different views. A vermilion bridge over the mainstream of the Kurobe River. The nature view from the height of 34m is truly super beautiful, that is why it is the hottest travel place in Toyama, Japan.
it is one of the deepest and most beautiful gorges in Japan, famed in particular for its beautiful autumn leaves. In the video, you can take a one-way, one-hour, 20-minute tour of nature's railways on a simple train. The new green in the spring, the clear flowing water in the summer, and the autumn leaves in the four seasons are worth seeing. Passing through several bridges and several tunnels, you will pass nature through. The mid-range superb scene includes a 60-meter-high Houyi Bridge on the Weihe River, Mikurigaike (pond), Jigokudani (Hell Valley), a hidden open-air hot spring clock fishing hot spring, and the famous Jin Hua guan, which is famous for its red leaves! In the middle of the Zhongyin Station and the Fuping Station, there are restaurants and souvenir gift shops, where you can rest and dine. Use the last day to slowly taste the nature of the Kurobe Gorge!
An open carriage train ride, green mountains, blue water, snow bridges, natural hot springs, happy kids, parents, and grandparents. Despite the bucketing rain that drenched us on the way back, a perfect day. The main drawcard for the Kurobe Gorge is the stunning natural beauty. In summer it is a lush, cool, green getaway and a relief from the heat and humidity of the cities and in Autumn, the changing leaves put on a truly spectacular show. Don't plan a visit in winter though. As the area receives huge amounts of snowfall it is inaccessible between December and mid-April. The complete route opens fully in early May. There is a relatively long season for autumn leaves here with the season stretching from mid-October to mid-November.

Kurobe Gorge Hiking [Babadani corce] 2019
[ Maniac Japan Travel -Hokuriku ]
Babadani was like another world and was very relaxing.
It takes a little courage to go naked and enter the riverside hot springs, but it feels great.

Okukane Bridge
The Okukane Bridge is a 34 meter tall red pedestrian bridge that spans the Kurobe River right across from Keyakidaira Station. The bridge connects the station to Babadani and Meiken Onsen, two ryokan with hot spring baths, 15-60 minutes farther up the trail.
Hitokui Iwa
The path along the far side of the Okukane Bridge is cut directly into the steep cliff. The cliff face, known as Hitokui Iwa (people eating rock), curves overhead making it look like a huge stone mouth is swallowing up the trail.
The one, the amazing, Kurobe gorge
Today was so amazing and could not have been a more suiting day for the visit to Kurober Gorge.
Kurobe Gorge Railway (Outbound) in Japan / 黒部峡谷鉄道 (下り)
The Kurobe Gorge Railway (Kurobe Kyokoku Tetsudo in Japanese) runs in Toyama Prefecture in the central Japan. A whole ride for one way could take about 80 minutes. It actually may feel shorter than that as you may see a lot of nice views and find interesting spots along the way. It's closed during winter.
