Ninety-Eighth Episode: Kurume Cycle Family Park
I'd seen this park in a magazine years ago and then forgot about it! I don't know what sparked my memory, but we finally went to the Kurume Cycle Family Park! It's a great place to take your kids!
Or maybe even a date if you're into cycling. You can go on the double tricycle and snuggle up! :)

Rhododendron obtusum (Flamingo Kurume Azalea) – bonsai
The Kurume hybrid azaleas of Japan owe their parentage to several species of mountain azaleas, predominantly R. sataense with R. kiusianum. Formerly, the Kurume hybrids were grouped under R. obtusum, but modern horticulturists now consider R. obtusum a hybrid and not a separate species. Dense, upright, evergreen shrub with small, 1 1/4 inch long, elliptic, glossy, olive green leaves. The Kurume are prized for showy clusters of small, profuse early to midspring flowers, 1 to 3 per truss, which literally cover the plant. Best adapted to partial sun. Prune immediately after flowering so you won't cut off any of next year's flower buds. Best if not sheared. Beautiful planted in generous, solid-colored drifts along edge of woods. The Kurume hybrids are also prized for bonsai culture. Plant as you would any of the other azaleas: high and in well-drained, acidic soil, rich with organic matter. Though azaleas have a potentially large list of possible pest and disease problems, they are usually trouble free if planted correctly in proper cultural conditions.

Checking out the sites and sounds of another train station in Kurume, this one is Nishitetsu. Many vendors selling different items.. when I found the fish lady, she actually told me to stop filming the fish that she had in her cooler.. so I moved on to the cool fruit and vegetable guy! Enjoy ^.^

If you travel to Japan in the month of August don’t miss their hanabi festival that last for almost 2 hours. ????
Flamingo Kurume Azalea Bonsai Tree
Azaleas are flowering shrubs comprising of two of the eight subgenera of the genus Rhododendron, Pentanthera (deciduous) and Tsutsuji (evergreen). Azaleas bloom in spring and their flowers often last several weeks. Azalea make great flowering Bonsai. Garden centres usually have a good choice of Azaleas that can be made into Bonsai.
Azalea bonsai are usually styled so that the flowers are optimally displayed.
Keeping your Azalea Bonsai in a partial shade position will help produce a better flower display. Protect the tree from extreme weathers.
Repot young tress yearly in the early spring. Azalea Bonsai require a well draining, acidic soil mix.
Feed the Bonsai every two weeks during the growing season and up to the point of flowering. Stop feeding as soon as the flowers appear. Resume with a monthly feed when the Bonsai has stopped flowering. Use a feed designed for acid loving plants.
Pruning of your Azalea Bonsai should be done as soon as the flowering has stopped.
Keep the Azalea Bonsai tree well watered during the peak growing season. Keep the soil moist at all other times. Try to use rain water were possible.

Seventy-fourth Episode: Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge
Last December (You can tell by the hat!) the whole family went out to Oita prefecture to see the Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge built over a beautiful scenic gorge! Great views and beautiful waterfalls! And as an added bonus we tried a venison burger!
