High Desert Bonsai - Azalea in Spring
Here's a quick couple shots of the azalea I root pruned and potted last year. The tree was heavily pruned back and then once new growth emerged a heavy fertilization schedule was started. The tree has recovered nicely and will be allowed to grow all year untouched. I will prune back hard again next year to push the growth back tighter and duplicate the original process. Eventually I would like to refine the rough image to a clump style bonsai, but this stock is rather uninteresting and lacks taper at the moment. Hopefully I can develop this into something more, if not the blossoms are beautiful and thats enough. Thanks for watching,

Western Azalea, Azalea Park in Brookings Oregon
Cleared away competing vegetation around this Western Azalea (Rhododendron Occidentale), and wanted to show its health. Note the moss and the age of the branches, the new growth coming in from the bottom, and the health of the more woody parts of the plant near the base. I've seen those lower parts break off very easily when the plant gets old, and old branches can become weak and dry. This plant receives little shade. I'd rate its health at around 2.5 out of 5, and I feel it would benefit from the removal of the old branches.
I let Youtube run its stabilization on the video, looks like it turned out pretty well.
