Crossing the Kyle of Tongue
The Kyle of Tongue is a shallow sea loch in northwest Highland, Scotland, in the western part of Sutherland. Featuring a rocky coastline, its mouth is formed at Tongue Bay. The community of Tongue is situated on the Kyle's eastern shore and the loch is crossed by the Kyle of Tongue Bridge and Causeway.

Old Photographs Tongue Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of photographs of Tongue, Sutherland. This is a coastal village in the north west Highlands. It lies on the east shore above the base of the Kyle of Tongue and north of the mountains Ben Hope and Ben Loyal. To the north lies the area of Braetongue. Tongue is the main village in a series of crofting townships that runs through Coldbackie, Dalharn, Blandy, and the harbour of Scullomie to the deserted township of Slettel. The area was an historic crossroad for Gaels, Picts and Vikings. Castle Varrich near to the village was the ancient seat of the chief of the Clan Mackay. George Washington Campbell was born on February 9, 1769 in Tongue, was an American statesman who served as a U.S. Representative, Senator, Tennessee Supreme Court Justice, U.S. Ambassador to Russia and the 5th United States Secretary of the Treasury from February to October 1814. He died in 1848 and is buried at Nashville City Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.

NW Scotland, Lairg to Tongue via Crask and Altnaharra on A836 by BMW Motorcycle.
Just north of Lairg at the junction with the A838 the A836 becomes a single track road. For the next 34 miles or so, the road takes one on a journey through picturesque scenery of open moors, valleys, lochs and mountainside. Apart from the Crask Inn and Altnaharra village, the area is very sparsely populated. Video compression x4.

Tory Minister's slip of the tongue causes House of Commons to erupt in laughter: Keep our seats safe
Conservative Minister, Rishi Sunak, suffered a slip of the tongue when discussing the recruitment of 20,000 police officers, leaving both sides of the House of Commons chamber in stitches.
The Chief Secretary to the Treasury was discussing the Government's pledge to recruit 20,000 police officers by 2023.
Mr Sunak attempted to emphasise the new police officers would help keep our streets safe, however, he mistakenly said that the new police officers would help keep our seats safe.
Many MPs on both sides of the House of Commons did not fail to see the funny side of the slip of the tongue.
Mr Sunak said: The government is determined to keep our families and communities safe by backing the police with the resources that they need.
That is why we have committed to finding 20,000 new police officers by the end of 2023 to help keep our seats, streets safe.
The House of Commons then burst into laughter at the blunder.
Mr Sunak also smirked at his mistake before regaining composure.

A walk to Castle Varrich from Tongue
The far northern Highlands are the setting for some spectacular scenery, with the estuary of the Kyle of Tongue being particularly noteworthy.
Perched on top of an exposed promontory sits Castle Varrich (or Caisteal Bharrigch in Gaelic) which overlooks the landscape from an elevated position and offers superb views from its sturdy viewing platform.
It's an easy walk from the village of Tongue on well-maintained paths that are only around 2 miles in length, so the return journey shouldn't take much more than an hour to complete.

Aurora over The Kyle of Tongue, Scotland. September 10 2011
Sunspot1283 I'd gone to Scotland to find some suitable locations to photograph the Aurora in the winter & ended up being treated to an early show with this visit as sunspot 1283 released M class & X class flares which struck Earth over the period of my trip. I was fortunate to find clear skies one night & managed to shoot the aurora on my first attempt. 550 still images sewn together with final cut express. Canon 5D mkii, Canon EF L USM 24mm f1.4

A short film capturing our family holiday at Kinloch Lodge. This film was shot in slog2 as a learning process. It was over exposed and was way before I understood the ISO characteristics of Sony's sLog. I have tried to denoise this film as much as possible. You can't win them all.
