Our visit Venice travel guide covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to local Italian food, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day and by night including visiting cathedrals, canals, ruins and islands. We cover activities you won't find in a typical Venice tourism brochure, Venice itinerary or Venice, Italy city tour also known as Venezia Italia.
20 Things to do in Venice, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (VENEZIA ITALIA):
We’re taking you on a whirlwind tour of Venice in winter visiting the famed Floating City. Join us as we show you the best things to see, do and eat in Venice.
The Vaporetto is Venice’s water bus service. The standard ticket is 7.50 Euros and valid for 60 minutes, the 1 day pass is 20 Euros and valid for 24 hours.
The most visited attraction in Venice: Piazza San Marco where there is quite a bit to see and do around the square beginning with St Mark’s Basilica.
St Mark’s Campanile, a tall brick bell tower was once used by approaching ships as a beacon to guide them home where you get great views of the city.
Then you have the Doge’s Palace, which was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the ruler of the former Republic of Venice built in the Venetian Gothic style.
Don't forget the Bridge of SIghs, whose name refers to the sighs of prisoners who would get their last glimpse of Venice as they were led from Doge's Palace to their cells.
Across to the other side of the Grand Canal, you have the Basilica of Saint Mary of Health and the Galleria dell’Accademia in case you’re in the mood for art.
A restaurant we really enjoyed La Zucca - a place where all the dishes are made with pumpkin! The Rialto Market specializes in produce and fresh seafood for self-catering.
Let’s talk about island hopping in Venice:
Founded in the 5th century, Torcello is even older than Venice and was the original settlement in the Venetian Lagoon with lots of walking paths, nature and Byzantine mosaics.
Burano is known for its lace work and brightly coloured homes with plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops to browse.
Mazzorbo island sits next to Burano and is connected by a bridge while being known for its vineyards and orchards.
Murano is renowned for its glass production dating back to 1291 when the glassmakers in Venice were forced to relocate by the Venetian government.
Lido is an 11-kilometre sandbar island that shelters the lagoon from the Adriatic Sea with beaches, lots of seaside homes, and this is also where the Venice Film Festival takes place.
A restaurant we liked in Venice is Osteria Mocenigo specializing in local cuisine. Try the “Sarde in saor” - a typical Venetian dish made with sardines.
While your vaporetto pass is valid ride the canals at night and watch the Floating City come to life.
We hope you enjoyed this Venice travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas for your own trip.

VENICE - is a city in northeastern Italy and the capital of the Veneto region. It is situated across a group of 117 small islands that are separated by canals and linked by bridges.[1] These are located in the shallow Venetian Lagoon, an enclosed bay that lies between the mouths of the Po and the Piave Rivers. Parts of Venice are renowned for the beauty of their settings, their architecture, and artwork. The lagoon and a part of the city are listed as a World Heritage Site.

History, facts and travel tips about Venice
Few cities can claim such a priceless art and history heritage as Venice. This unique city with its magical, spectacular scenery is not just beautiful; it is a real miracle of creative genius: a city built on mud, sand and the slime of a difficult, inhospitable landscape.
Venice is the symbol of wise government and freedom. The lagoon was its only defense, there were no palace guards except the Arsenal workers and no parade ground except the sea. During centuries of feudalism and barbarism, Venice symbolised democracy and civilization.
What surprises about Venice, now as in the past, is its impressive building structure - a city built entirely on water. For centuries the Venetians, slowly and stubbornly insisted on recovering even the smallest bit of land from the water.
From the very start, building the city was a real engineering miracle due not only to the skill and intelligence of its builders but also to the nature of the place itself.

Top attractions & things to do in Venice
The Grand Canal
St. Mark's Square
St. Mark's Basilica
The Basilica of San Marco overlooks one of the most beautiful squares in the world, a real marble salon, the city center for centuries. Next to both the Basilica and the Doge's Palace, all the most important religious and civil ceremonies have always been held there and now the Piazza San Marco is considered the city's main symbol and tourist attraction.
This great square overlooking the water is a mixture of spaces, volumes and styles: the Procurator's residence, the bell tower, the Doge's Palace and the Sansoviniana Bookshop.
On Ascension day, the Doge and the city's most important members got on board and sailed out to the Adriatic, to the Lido port. Here the Doge threw a ring, symbolizing union between Venice and water, into the sea and pronounced the solemn formula: We wed you oh sea, in the sign of true, eternal dominion.
St Mark's Campanile
Museo Correr also known as The Museum of the City and Civilization of Venice.
Bridge of Sighs
The name is an invention of Romantic literature; legend says that from this bridge one could hear the sighs of the condemned as they were being led to prison.
The Bridge of Sighs, that houses two overlapping corridors, was built at the beginning of the 17th century form a design by Antonio Contin and used to serve as a link between the Old Prisons, in the Doge's Palace, and the New Prisons, situated beyond the Palazzo River.
Its arched profile, suspended over the water of the Palazzo Rio, composes one of the most famous scenes of the city.

Metropolitan City of Venice Itineraries
Venice is a city that includes both water and dry land and it's possible to visit every aspect of it thanks to the Public Transportation Services.
Other than its famous history as a lagoon city it presents many commercial and urban centers like the ones in Mestre. An other famous tourist attraction is the Riviera del Brenta with its amazing historical mansions and abundant nature.
To move easier around the territory it has been made a new pass called Venezia Metropolitana 24 that includes the possibility of moving by bus, tram or water transportations like ferries. This ticket lasts 24 hours and it's possible to purchase through all AVM, ACTV and ATVO commercial channels. It's also possible to purchase a single ticket for families with a discount.
The city is also making efforts to allow exploring the territory by bike and both central Mestre and Piazzale Roma offer many places to park bikes.
The Venetian hinterland is another amazing aspect of the territory , during summer many people are interested in discovering the places between the sea and the lagoon.
The IAT spots managed by Venezia Unica allow to discover itineraries, practical informations and entertainment.

Most of the tourists are here to start the journey from Venice Santa Lucia station. Landscape of the city with water-filled as soon as I met at the station. Unlike usual taxi and a bus station waiting for the guests here are bustling with boats and people get on the boat trip over it.

Comacchio - the little Venice| Family Fun Trip Lagoon Town Highlights | Italy 2016 | Kate Claudia✔
Comacchio - the little Venice | Family Fun Trip Lagoon Town Highlights | Italy 2016 | Kate Claudia
***********
Where it is:
3 km from the northern coast of Emilia-Romagna in the Po Delta, 50 km from Ferrara, 35 km from Ravenna, 110 km from Venice.
***********
Why visit:
Comacchio, the little Venice, is an enchanting lagoon town: it's neat and unfeigned, endowed with a vitality that comes from a strong respect for its own history and for the environment that surrounds it. The limpid brightness of the light reminds us that we are close to the sea here, and this light goes on to flood the town, only to be increased by the calm surfaces of the canals. A treasure chest of particular natural beauty and reminders of its history, Comacchio, now known as the capital of the Po Delta Park, is a little town that was born and still lives between the land and the water.
Its seven beaches are an ideal destination for spending a holiday with family or friends, or for a relaxing weekend resting in the sun or partying through the lively lido nights.
***********
Where to visit and what to see
The best period for visiting Comacchio runs from April to mid-October. In particular, for those who love the tastes of the sea, the first two weekends of October host a food festival based on the eel, with tastings and shows in the street.
The best views in town are from the Ponte degli Sbirri: on one side the historic Ospedale degli Infermi and on the other the 19th century Palazzo Bellini and the famous Trepponti, the symbol of Comacchio.
From the Loggiato dei Cappuccini, which leads to the church of Santa Maria in Aula Regia, you can access the historic Manifattura dei Marinati, the pickling works, completely restored into full working order; visit the “Sala dei fuochi” with its 12 stoves, where the eels are roasted on spits before being marinated. The graceful 17th century Fish Market attests to more seaborne activity, and it still sells the daily catch.
Important historic buildings also include the ancient Cathedral of San Cassiano, the Loggia del Grano, and the Clock Tower.
For lovers of archaeology, the rare and extensive finds from a ship that ran aground not far from the town in the time of Augustus Caesar are housed at the Roman Ship Museum in Palazzo Bellini.
In the late afternoon, when the sunset paints extraordinary colours, the nature reserve of the Comacchio lagoons - south of the old town - is a fascinating environment. A trip into history by motorboat allows you to feel the atmosphere of the lagoon with its 'casoni' (fishing huts) and 'tabarre' (stores/workshops), the fishing equipment, and marvellous vegetation. Bird watching is a particularly attractive activity here.
***********
Don't miss:
You mustn't leave without having walked along the loggia, the Loggiato dei Cappuccini, the longest in Italy, or without making a trip by boat or bike into the Comacchio lagoon.
This town on the water can also be visited by boat, more specifically with the traditional “batane”: a free service is offered by volunteers whose moorings are around the Trepponti.

Florence to Venice by Train | Italy Travel Vlog
Join as we head from Florence to Venice by train in this Italy travel vlog which also includes a full apartment tour of our airbnb in Florence as well as the new apartment we stayed at in Venice. Our day was spent killing a bit of time at our favorite pizzeria and small cafe at the train station in Florence before boarding our train. The two hour train ride from Florence to Venice went by quickly and featured some scenic winter views of snow blowing as we zoomed past rural areas. Upon arriving in Venice we checked into our airbnb before picking up our family friend Val who will be joining us for the rest of our travels through Europe.

Italy Train Travel from Florence to Venice | Apartment Tour of Florence + Venice Video Transcript:
We're going to give you the apartment tour. So come on in. There is a really long hallway. A corridor.
A corridor and into here. We have the living room. It was perfectly adequate. I mean we had a small table and four chairs. Tiny little couch. I mean for four people it was a bit cramped. We found the biggest complaint about this place is we felt like we were a little bit on top of each other. You know we were staying here for 6 nights.
It was a little bit crowded for 4 adults yeah but the views. Right. We chose this place for the views. We need to show you. The views and location were excellent. One more time.
The views and location were excellent also really appreciated this place had central heating. Because it was cold the entire time we were here. But we were nice and toasty inside. The entire time. If you look over here we had wine glasses and we made good use of those.
We did all of our cooking here. A little fridge. We had a kettle.
And the best part I would say the best feature of this of this apartment I should say was that we both had nice big bedrooms.
Today is another easy travel day. We are only going to take a 2 hour train. Heading to Venice and the nice thing is that we have well I wouldn't say it is so nice but we have a bit of time to kill so that means we can have a bit of a leisurely lunch. Pizza. We're going to go to that pizza place again just because we all like it. It is cheap. It is good and it is actually on the way to the train station.
So we've tried a few different pizzas here at this place but this is our first time to try the four cheese one. So I'm just going to flip it up. Flip it up.
And I'll just mention so for the four pizza slices and a couple of drinks we paid 15 Euros. It was a good deal.
So we arrived with 2 hours to kill. Yes. So we found a little cafe right in the train station. We're all having it does not have the most beautiful train station. Very little seating so we had to find a cafe. Yeah we were lucky to find this one.
We've got about 5 minutes to wait for our train here. So I thought I'd ask you what did you think of Florence? I think you liked it more than Rome right? Very much more than Rome. Very walkable, the art museums were very not crowded. We didn't feel like cattle in them. We learned from our mistakes we went early. When it first opened.
Hello from a bakery in Venice. Hello from a bakery in Venice. So we've arrived here. A nice short train ride. We've checked in and we're pekish.
Because our next transportation day is going to be really really long. Trains and ferries. So I think we'll actually give you a second apartment tour today.
Apartment tour. Because it is cool. It is cool and we're here. We've got another person joining us on the trip. One of my parents friends Val. She is flying in from BC.
We're just going to pick her up soon.
This is the first time we've had an apartment that has been two levels.
From now on it is going to be 5 travelers. Five of us for the rest of this trip in Europe. That is we're going to sign off because we actually have to get ready to pick her up soon. We'll see you guys on the next one. Thanks for watching. More videos from Venice soon.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

I moved my foot back to Venezia. The road is lined with cars. I stopped for a while. It was like a trendy fashion city, and everybody was going to shopping streets on Labor Day. It seems to be a place for families to visit rather than shopping. Today, the clear sky seems to add warm light to the children. The first thing that leads me to my feet is the sound of music. It is not only me that music is singing. Street performances of musical bands that are offered to people for Labor Day. People are excited about the saxophone sound of exciting bands, too, and the kids beat it. This time, another music fills the streets. Not an indoor, but an open-air opera. The passerby stops the footsteps and makes the singers sing. The opera singing along with the dog. People look happy. I am amazed and impressed that I enjoy singing and singing as if I have seen a great performance. We are doing an opera performance here. I think it's important that not only those who love the opera but also know it. Because it is an important Italian heritage not only for Italians but also for tourists visiting Venice. It was very nice. A pleasant and lively energy was delivered. Everyone participated and I was happy with them
[Italy: Google Translator]

BENÁTKY V OHROZENÍ | CITIES UNDER THREAT – VENICE (trailer) 2019
RÉŽIA / DIRECTOR: BARBARA NECEK
ROK / YEAR: 2017
ŠTÁT / STATE: FRANCÚZSKO / FRANCE
Founded in the fifth century, Venice is built across around 100 islands linked by canals and more than 300 bridges. The city floods increasingly often. Like a journey back in time, this documentary goes from the city’s foundations to the Venice we know today. Historians, architects, engineers and residents share their love for this unique city, which they are trying to save from the waters through a very ambitious project (MOSE) on an unprecedented scale.
