Subaru Outback 2.5I Premium Drive into Spring Sydney to Byron Bay - Rob Fraser Reviews
We take a Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium AWD SUV on a spring drive from Sydney to Byron Bay and back.
Along the way we explore a number of seaside villages such as Port Stephens, Nelson Bay, Stockton Beach, Seal Rocks, Foster, Smiths Lake, Blueys Beach, Tuncurry, Coffs Harbour, Ballina, Byron Bay, Hat Head, Port Macquarie.
The Subaru Outback is ideally suited to the function of a famliy long distance touring vehicle, with enough performance combined with Symetrical permanent AWD and X Mode ensuring a safe drive no matter what the conditions.
On the drive we encountered lots of unspring like weather, torrential rain, hail storms and snippets of sunshine. The Subaru handled it all with ease.
With adequate room for five occupants, plenty of usable luggage space and a heap of comfort and luxury features, like heated front seats, electrically adjustable seats with additional lumbar support, SI Drive, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, advanced infotainment and connectivity, auto directional LED headlights and auto wipers and much more.
Overall the Subaru Outback provided a relaxed and comfortable drive allowing us to arrive feeling refreshed no matter the driving conditions.

Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive system
So what are the key highlights from our trip?
A week wasn’t long enough!
It’s better to pay a little more for better accommodation.
Byron Bay, while it has changed, is still an essential destination to visit.
There are a large number of quaint and interesting seaside villages along the East coast on NSW that are worthy of a visit and longer stay.
As we spent a long time in the car we were thankful for the Subaru Outback as it was so comfortable and relaxed to drive.
Highway cruising was a breeze, dirt road excursions likewise.
There was plenty of room for two and even four in the Outback and its full of comfort features that you would expect to pay many thousands of dollars more for.
Overall fuel economy was about 8.1L/100km which is pretty good considering the mix of driving and the torrential rain conditions.
Permanent AWD such as the Subaru Symmetrical system is an essential safety feature of a car.
Seaside - Young Henrys Cool Bands - Ep. 31
These turbo legends from Byron Bay had a frosty stop-off in the YH Cool Room on the Sydney leg of their 'Golden Girl' tour. There's talk of chloephobia (fear of newspapers), why it's best to keep enemies close and pre-show rituals of the future.

The search for Mildura, the hunt for 88 days
From NSW to Victoria Australia
February 2018
The Search for Mildura began with a dream to live large in Vietnam, visit my family, and go on adventures and explore new cultures and places along the way! After bumming on the beaches in Byron Bay, it was time to get our hands dirty and save up some good money! As most backpackers looking to extend their stay in Australia, we decided to search for some farmwork to complete our 88 days and save up some decent cash for a 6 week adventure in Vietnam! Things definitely did not always go according to plan, but we always stayed positive, and kept focused on our end goal to help bring our dream to life!

THE NEXT GENERATION OF LUXURY LIVING
When entrepreneur Tony Madigan decided to redevelop a parcel of land in the scenic seaside holiday haven of Kingscliff, famous for its beaches and dining, close to the Queensland border in northern New South Wales, he gave the development his absolute consideration.
Dubbed The Palisades, the newly completed luxury villa duplex spans a waterfront block of land that has been in the hands of the Madigan family for over 50 years.
Madigan's attention to detail is visible from the driveway where residents are greeted with the building's distinct architecturally-designed curved roof and the only privately owned carlift from Newcastle to Noosa to transport their vehicle from street level down to a 6 car secure carpark at the push of a remote.
Fronting onto the Kingscliff's riverside promenade, The Palisades enjoys views fit to inspire artists and writers. Author John O'Grady sat on the balcony to pen his well known Australian novel They're A Weird Mob, which went on to become a feature film starring Chips Rafferty and Graham Kennedy in the 70's. To capitalise on the never to be built out views, the penthouse enjoys open living kitchen, dining and lounge areas complete with floor to ceiling imported Italian ceramic tiles, and shadowline finishes to the ten-foot high ceilings. An integrated kitchen - meaning no appliances and no handles to be seen - tucks away a top of the line Bio Fresh Liebherr fridge, Miele dishwasher, Miele combo oven and microwave behind soft touch cupboards and drawers. A mirrored splashback features behind the Miele softtouch cooktops and overhead extractor for a unique effect.
Each of the four bedrooms enjoy features like 100% wool carpet and private ensuites with ceasarstone vanity tops, Italian hand-carved granite hand basins and heated towel racks. The master bedroom opens out onto the waterfront balcony, and is smart-wired with multiple TV connections and powerpoints. It also boasts spacious walk-in wardrobe with floor to ceiling shoe rack, and an ensuite with double showerheads and double hand basins.
To access the rooftop, an Australian hardwood staircase with stainless steel railings spirals upwards from the dining area into the distinctive curved roof visible from the front of the property. Once upstairs, an undercover entertaining area awaits featuring a guest bathroom with moulded glass vanity, shower, toilet and dressing area. An undercover BBQ wet area with daybed fronts onto the rooftop deck, where a dining area, plunge pool, and spa create the perfect space to dine and unwind.
The building offers a state of the art security system and C- Bus automation. A private Schindler lift shuttles residents to the carpark, foyer and penthouse. Madigan will be holding onto one of the villas, with the spacious 434 square metre penthouse being offered for sale.
Location:
Kingscliff, Northern NSW. Approx 8 minutes to Gold Coast airport, 25 minutes to Byron Bay, 1 hour to Brisbane.

The Gathering of Eagles Fly-in at the Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield has evolved into a full on two day airshow, now known as the Brisbane Vally Air Show. The ultimate display in 2016 was this handling display by the RAAF C17A (A41-211) Boeing Globemaster operated by 36 Squadron out of the Amberley RAAF Base. You might like to compare this to my video of the AN124 at the 1988 Bicentennial Airshow.
