#1.5 Lumo: Community conservancy in Tsavo
The second stop on our train journey is Lumo, located at the bottom of the Taita Hills (which we explored in the previous episode) at the awesome Lion's Bluff lodge. Because Lumo is a community conservancy, the rules here are more flexible than in national parks. Also, the income generated from tourism is put back in the community: this means sustainable safaris! From bush walks to night safaris, there is no shortage of adventurous activities here.

◎ About Charlie and Charlie's Travels ◎
Hi, I'm Charlie! Some time ago (2014) I started an internship in Kenya. I haven't left since, because I fell in love with Africa and started my own travel agency, Charlie's Travels. It's specialised in off the beaten track tours, because we think this continent is so much more than just safari tours and beaches. We believe that for the real Africa experience, you need to go beyond the tourist traps. Africa has so many stereotypes and preconceptions. By making cool and relevant content we want to show you a different side of the continent! We want to create new routes and awesome adventures, which will make you want to travel here and see it for yourself.

Ecoscan: Wild Life Conservancy
In Kenya's Taita Taveta District, a community-run wildlife sanctuary, Lumo, has seen locals from three community-owned ranches agree to pool their 125,000 acres of land for wildlife conservation. In this week's edition of Ecoscan, Sally Mbilu, sought to find out, just how the bold move to give up land is benefiting locals around the Tsavo ecosystem, or how future generations are likely to reap from it.

Leaving Tortilius a camp after two awesome days. Heading into Tsarvo West and to Mzima Springs then into Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary and to Lions Bluff, the view with a lodge. It's amazing 360 degree views make it a must visit and I'm excited to see that wildlife we will see there.
Tortilius Camp was tops, great service and an all round awesome experience. Thanks to all.

Wildlife Works Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project, Kenya
Founded in 1997, Wildlife Works has been a pioneer in market based solutions for conservation for 21 years.
In 2008, Wildlife Works expanded its 32k ha “Rukinga” wildlife sanctuary to protect 200k ha of the Kasigau Corridor establishing a safe haven for thousands of elephants and more than 300 species of other wildlife that cross from Tsavo East to Tsavo West National Parks.
In 2011, the Kasigau Corridor + project became the world’s first REDD+ project to be verified under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standard (CCB). The project was also awarded Gold Level status by the CCB for exceptional biodiversity and climate benefits. The project will generate 45m tons of Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) over 30 years.
