La Biennale di Venezia 2019 arte - May You Live In Interesting Times
A walk through Giardini and Arsenale in Venice, to discover the artists of the year 2019.
The 58th International Art Exhibition, titled May You Live In Interesting Times, takes place from 11th May to 24th November 2019. The title is a phrase of English invention that has long been mistakenly cited as an ancient Chinese curse that invokes periods of uncertainty, crisis and turmoil; interesting times, exactly as the ones we live in today.

UCD architecture at La Biennale di Venezia 2018
UCD graduates and founders of Grafton Architects, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara are the first Irish architects selected as curators of La Biennale di Venezia. FULL STORY ➡️
The RIBA prize-winning architectural-duo, who are adjunct professors in UCD School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy, have set the theme Freespace for the 16th International Architecture Exhibition.
Their theme explores and expresses the generosity of spirit and sense of humanity at the core of architecture.
The Biennale Architettura is considered the world’s greatest exhibition of architecture. Over 250,000 visitors are expected to attend the exhibition this year.
The six-month long exhibition in the Giardini and Arsenale venues, and other locations in Venice, Italy, will stage national pavilions from more than 65 countries.
The national pavilions are created, designed and constructed by teams of architects from each country responding to the overall exhibition theme.
The Irish Pavilion – Free Market – was co-curated by a team of six young architects and designers including Orla Murphy and Laurence Lord who lecture at the UCD School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy.
Free Market explores the unique identity of the Irish market town while reflecting regional variation and historic development.
After the Biennale Architettura 2018, the Irish Pavilion will return to Ireland and tour small towns across the country, gathering more stories and participants as it continues to evolve.
Professor Hugh Campbell, Dean of Architecture at University College Dublin has co-curated a special section of the main exhibition, entitled “Close Encounter” which presents works that originate in a reflection on well know buildings of the past.
Emmet Scanlon and Alice Clancy from the UCD School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy, are part of the team working for Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara to deliver La Biennale di Venezia 2018.

COLORI ARTE: La Biennale d'Arte di Venezia 2019
(Agenzia Vista) - Venezia, 13 Maggio 2019 - La 58.

Xavier Veilhan: Studio Venezia / French Pavilion, Venice Art Biennale 2017
Xavier Veilhan represents France at the 57th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. For the French Pavilion, Xavier Veilhan conceived a musical space in which professional musicians from all over the world work throughout the duration of the exhibition, which is called Studio Venezia. On the occasion of the preview days of the Venice Biennale, we had the chance to speak with Xavier Veilhan about his project. In this interview, Veilhan talks about the basic idea behind project, his connection to music and the kind of music he likes, how he choose the musicians, the difference between music and visual arts, and how Studio Venezia relates to Kurt Schwitters' Merzbau.
Curated by Lionel Bovier and Christian Marclay, Xavier Veilhan's Studio Venezia brings together musicians, sound technicians, programmers and producers, amongst others. Numerous instruments – familiar ones such as a grand piano, synthesizers, drum kits, as well as more exotic musical tools such as the Cristal Baschet (in this video played by Frédéric Lo) – are integrated into the space, and enable musicians from different horizons and genres (from classical to electronic and from new music compositions to folkloric styles) to work on site, either individually or collaboratively. Rather than attending concerts, visitors will instead be invited to listen, watch and bear witness to musical creations in progress.

Biennale di Venezia 2014 Arsenale
Biennale di Venezia 2014 - 14th International Architecture Exhibition - Fundamentals.
Fundamentals consists of three interlocking exhibitions:
1.Absorbing Modernity 1914-2014 is an invitation to the national pavilions to show the process of the erasure of national characteristics.
2.Elements of Architecture, in the Central Pavilion, pays close attention to the fundamentals of our buildings used by any architect, anywhere, anytime.
3.Monditalia dedicates the Arsenale to a single theme – Italy – with exhibitions, events, and theatrical productions.
The 14th International Architecture Exhibition, titled Fundamentals, directed by Rem Koolhaas and organized by la Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, was open to the public from June 7 through November 23, 2014, in Venica Italy. 65 National Participations were exhibiting in the historic pavilions in the Giardini, in the Arsenale, and in the city of Venice. They examine key moments from a century of modernization. Together, the presentations start to reveal how diverse material cultures and political environments transformed a generic modernity into a specific one. Participating countries show, each in their own way, a radical splintering of modernity's in a century where the homogenizing process of globalization appeared to be the master narrative
Absorbing Modernity 1914–2014 has been proposed for the contribution of all the pavilions, and they too are involved in a substantial part of the overall research project, whose title is Fundamentals. The history of the past one hundred years prelude to the Elements of Architecture section hosted in the Central Pavilion, where the curator offers the contemporary world those elements that should represent the reference points for the discipline: for the architects but also for its dialogue with clients and society. Monditalia section in the Corderie with 41 research projects, reminds us of the complexity of this reality without complacency or prejudice, which is paradigmatic of what happens elsewhere in the world; complexities that must be deliberately experienced as sources of regeneration. Dance, Music, Theatre and Cinema with the programmes of the directors will participate in the life of the section, with debates and seminars along the six-month duration of the exhibition.
Elements of Architecture / Central Pavilions
This exhibition is the result of a two-year research studio with the Harvard Graduate School of Design and collaborations with a host of experts from industry and academia. Elements of Architecture looks under a microscope at the fundamentals of our buildings, used by any architect, anywhere, anytime: the floor, the wall, the ceiling, the roof, the door, the window, the façade, the balcony, the corridor, the fireplace, the toilet, the stair, the escalator, the elevator, the ramp. The exhibition is a selection of the most revealing, surprising, and unknown moments from a new book, Elements of Architecture, that reconstructs the global history of each element. It brings together ancient, past, current, and future versions of the elements in rooms that are each dedicated to a single element. To create diverse experiences, we have recreated a number of very different environments – archive, museum, factory, laboratory, mock-up, simulation
Venice Architecture Biennale 2016
La Biennale di Venezia's 15th International Architecture Exhibition bears the title “Reporting from the Front” and is curated by Alejandro Aravena. The exhibition includes 88 participants from 37 different countries. 50 of them are participating for the first time, and 33 architects are under the age of 40. This video provides you with a walk through the Arsenale exhibition space and the Central Pavilion in the Giardini.

French Pavilion
Anri Sala represents France at the 55th International Art Exhibition -- La Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy. The exhibition is titled Ravel Ravel Unravel, which is a play on words based on the verb ravel, as well as a reference to the French composer Maurice Ravel. The videos on display show two pianists and a DJ who tries to sync the two different performances.
This year, France and Germany have swapped their pavilions in the Giardini, so Anri Sala's project has been conceived for the space of the German Pavilion.
